1. In one’s profession or business, why do we have to observe ethics? Support this with an organizational chart of the agency where you are working and discuss how the organizational chart plays an important role in the observance of professional ethics.

Working as an ethical business has many benefits, not least of which is the ability to attract and keep investors, employees and customers. Knowing that the company they deal with has stated their morals and made a promise to work in an ethical and responsible manner allows investors peace of mind that their money is being used in a way that aligns with their own moral standing. When working for a company with strong Business Ethics, employees are comfortable in the knowledge that they are not by their own action or inaction allowing unethical practices to continue. Customers are at ease buying products or services from a company they know to source their materials and labor in an ethical and responsible way.

For example, FIBECO-an electric cooperative which has a theme “we continue to live life better”, by member-consumer paying promptly electric bills, in an area where investment have been made to ensure that FIBECO provide a sufficient electricity, good services and not suffering from rotating brown-out that could affect everyday life esp. for commercial, industrial, residential and etc. these strategy become an asset for the Coop. to gain more profit.

A company which sets out to work within its own ethical guidelines is also less at risk of being fined for poor behavior, and less likely to find themselves in breach of one of the multitude of laws concerning required behavior. For example, laws around payments to corrupt regimes, or environmental practice policies. The whole company can be fined, the directors can be fined, and individual employees can be fined if the responsibility for an infraction falls on their shoulders.

Looking at the FIBECO’s Organization Chart/structure it plays an important role in establishing a line of communication that includes every level of the structure. By implementing and maintaining this line of communication, employees can effectively interact with managers who then interact with their peers and various officers and executives. It clearly defines who can manage the tasks and empowering the employees to gather data and work within company guidelines to place orders for goods and services will ultimately aid every aspect of the operation. Without structure, organizations accomplish very little and will often fail in a short period of time. Business Organization, who understand the importance of organizational structure and go to great lengths to create a viable structure can often see fruit from this approach, in the form of logical sequences in the production process, timely performance of tasks throughout the organization, and a sense of unity among employees that allows them to communicate and share ideas with one another. The end result is an organization capable of functioning efficiently and ultimately being successful.

2. Discuss at least five core values for the professional code of conduct and ethics for services.

Transparency
Civil servants and public officials are expected to use powers and resources for public good, under government policy. They should be accountable for the decisions they make, and prepared to justify their actions. Transparency is about information. It is about the ability of the receiver to have full access to the information he wants, not just the information the sender is willing to provide. Transparency embodies honesty and open communication because to be transparent someone must be willing to share information when it is uncomfortable to do so. Transparency is an individual being honest with him about the actions he is taking. Transparency is also the organization being upfront and visible about the actions it takes, and whether those actions are consistent with its values. - See more at:

Integrity
Integrity is putting the obligations of public service above your own personal interests. Civil servants and public officials are expected to make decisions and act solely in the public interest, without consideration of their private interests. Public employment being a public trust, the improper use of a public service position for private advantage is regarded as a serious breach of duty.

Fairness
Civil servants and public officials should make decisions and act in a fair and equitable manner, without bias or prejudice, taking into account only the merits of the matter, and respecting the rights of affected citizens.

Alertness
As agents and employees of the elected Government, Civil servants and public officials are required to serve the legitimate interests and needs of the Government, other civil servants, and all citizens, in a timely manner, with care, respect and courtesy.

Honesty
Public servant should be honest to build foundations of trust with colleagues, competitors, staff, customers and every other individual and entity. When employers deal honestly with their staff, employees are motivated to drive the business forward. Creditors and investors express confidence by funding company development and consumer confidence is positive. Honest practices inspire staff and customers with respect for your mission.

3. Explain at least four group of ethical conduct that you have to observe in your profession

Personal Conduct
The private life of civil servants is their own concern and organizations should not intrude upon it. There may be situations, however, in which the behavior of a civil servant may reflect on the organization. Civil servants must therefore bear in mind that their conduct and activities outside the workplace, even if unrelated to official duties, can compromise the image and the interests of the organizations. A civil servant must perform his duties honestly and maintain positive attitude, enhance his/her knowledge, abilities and skills so as to make his organization effective.

Relationship with the Agency
Relations with member States and legislative bodies. It is the clear duty of all international civil servants to maintain the best possible relations with Governments and avoid any action that might impair this. They should not interfere in the policies or affairs of Governments. It is unacceptable for them, either individually or collectively, to criticize or try to discredit a Government. At the same time, it is understood that international civil servants may speak freely in support of their organizations’ policies. Any activity, direct or indirect, to undermine or overthrow a Government constitutes serious misconduct. International civil servants are not representatives of their countries, nor do they have authority to act as liaison agents between organizations of the United Nations system and their Governments. The executive head may, however, request an international civil servant to undertake such duties, a unique role forwhich international loyalty and integrity are essential. For their part, neither Governments nor organizations should place international civil servants in a position where their international and national loyalties may conflict.

Relations with the public
For an organization of the United Nations system to function successfully, it must have the support of the public. Civil servants therefore have a continuing responsibility to promote a better understanding of the objectives and work of their organizations. This requires them to be well informed of the achievements of their own organizations and to familiarize themselves with the work of the United Nations system as a whole. There is a risk that on occasion civil servants may be subject to criticism from outside their organizations; in keeping with their responsibility as civil servants, they should respond with tact and restraint. It is the obligation of their organizations to defend them against criticism for actions taken in fulfillment of their duties. Civil servants should endeavor at all times to promote a positive image of the civil service, in conformity with their oath of loyalty.
