What is Academic Style? It is defined as a form of expository and argumentative writing style used by students and researchers to communicate a body of information about a particular subject/topic .
Academic writing has many differences compared to personal writing, there are things which academic style requires and are not that important in personal writing.

Structuring.
Here we will talk on how the information is structured when using the Academic style.
When structuring in an Academic writing style the information should be broken down into 3 parts that is the beginning, Middle and End as same as writing an essay, whereby the beginning will contain the introductory part which gives the reader a picture of what the writer is talking about, than in the middle the writer will discuss, evaluate and explain in more depth about that topic and finally at the end the writer will conclude the issue addressed.
“The sentences in academic writing are often longer and more intricate than the sentences in popular magazines. Academics strive to go beyond what is quick, obvious, and general. They ask questions based on studying a subject from multiple points of view, to make surprising connections that would not occur to someone who has not studied the subject carefully.
(Stuart Greene and April Lidinsky, From Inquiry to Academic Writing: A Text and Reader, 2nd ed.
Bedford/St. Martin's. 2012).

The Audience
It is important to remember who you are writing for. Being conscious of academic tone suggests that you are aware of your audience and respect the formality normally associated with academic writing.

Furthermore Academic writing should contain the following:-

The Tone
Presenting other people Ideas fairly is very important with an appropriate narrative tone. When using academic writing, the author is expected to investigate the research problem from

Leader vs Manager

...Leader vs. Managers I have attended at least a half dozen leadership courses/schools over the course of my naval career. The question asked by this paper has been a cornerstone of each of those courses. The comforting element is that our text and the other sources I searched online all more or less support the same answer. Managers coordinate resources; these resources can be equipment, manpower, fiscal, etc.; and Leaders lead people. One common theme is that managers “are given their authority by the nature of their role”1. I experience this everyday in my current job; my directorate head is an exceptional manager. In his position as director he can expect all of his department heads to perform certain tasks to meet the objectives that he and his superiors have set forth. He fits the definition nearly to a tee with his focus at work; “Managers focus on tactical activities and often times have a more directive and controlling approach”1. He is nearly always on top of the day-to-day activities that are going on within our command and our subordinate units, but do not ask him a question regarding any of his subordinates. His skills as a manager work very well in his job as Operations Officer, but he is not often labeled as a leader by any of his people. Leaders on the other hand are not defined by their position, but their “authority is innate in their approach”1. Leaders are expected to “inspire and motivate employees to drive themselves”1 as opposed to the directive...

Leaders vs Managers

...Leaders vs. Managers Leaders vs. Managers In the business world, it is often asked if you are a leader or a manager? There are many people who do not even realize there is a difference between the two. The differences are so vast that it is important to realize what they are so one can decide what they will become as they graduate college and enter the business world. One might argue that it does not matter what you are, as long as you get the job done. This might be true but to be successful and develop a career, it is vital to determine what you might think you succeed at. According to Dictionary.com, a manager is defined as “a person who has control or direction of an institution or business.” There are many managers in business and a variety of types of managers. The different types of managers are problem-solving, micromanager, laissez-faire, passive, proactive, and presumptuous (www.linkedin.com). The problem-solving manager is the type of manager who is always putting out fires, in the middle of chaos, and always on the run. A micromanager is very heavy fisted and always demanding progress while also using threats. Laissez-faire managers have no real managing style and almost appear, as they do not care. A passive manager will handle issues with a non-aggressive approach while trying to please their subordinates. Proactive managers will encompass all of the skills of all other manager types. A proactive manager will be on edge and make sure they prevent...

Leader vs Manager

...art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. A leader comes to the forefront in case of crisis, and is able to think and act in creative ways in difficult situations. Unlike management, leadership flows from the core of a personality and cannot be taught, although it may be learned and may be enhanced through coaching or mentoring. In its essence, leadership in an organizational role involves: - establishing a clear vision - sharing that vision with others so that they will follow willingly, - providing the information, knowledge, and methods to realize that vision, - coordinating and balancing the conflicting interests of all members or stakeholders. Difference between a leader and manager - A manager manages and takes responsibility of a situation. A leader takes charge, is influential, and sets an example. - The manager has responsibilities and is able to delegate and implement plans. A leader is an example for others and is someone who doesn’t necessarily have a large responsibility. - Managers have subordinates who follow their rules. Â Leaders have individuals who believe in what they say, otherwise known as followers. - Leaders focus on human emotion and charisma to lead. Managers focus on concise, scientifically proven methods to lead. - The manager imitates; the leader originates. Main Responsibilities of a manager Hiring – a manager finds individuals that are suited to positions required to complete a job as part...

...Management VS Leadership Bianca Fontanez MGT 321 Assessing Leadership Skills Professor Jessica Cossette September 1, 2014 Management VS Leadership Differentiating between a manager and a leader is not an easy task for many people think they are one in the same. For any person would say, “Aren’t they both leaders?” However, this is not the case. There are many cases in which a manger forgets that they must also be a leader. It is possible for a person to be a manager and a leader. Leaders are integral parts of organization as well as managers. Therefore, it is interesting to find that any person can be a leader whereas managers are those appointed to a power of position. A leader can be a sales person, a CEO, or any other member of a work force. Both leaders and managers are necessary parts of an organization. There are people who are natural leaders. These individuals can be found in any position, and people will willingly follow them. There are often times where a good leader will not be a good manager. It turns out that managers and leaders are not often found within the same individual. The key difference in a leadership role is that people willingly follow them. People believe in what the message is and willingly do what is being requested of them. On the other hand, a manager may demand results whereas the productivity will not be as high being that people do not believe in their work (Brown, 2010). The manager ensures all work is done in a timely manner...

Leadership vs Management

...company has leaders and managers, and sometimes they are the same person. Leaders are those who can motivate and inspire others to perform at their best to get the job done. Managers are those in charge who organize and make sure that things get done, not necessarily worry about popularity or unity within the group (Brown, 2010) (DuBrin, 2010). • Those put in a position of power over others, either a manager position or a leadership position must have the qualities that will benefit the company in those roles. • Leaders are those who work hard and perform positive results and in doing so are able to bring out the best in others around them. Leading by example is a key trait of a leader and not necessarily that of a manager in charge. • A manager is the key person is in a position of authority over others and they are the one who has the ability to get a task done and stay on schedule. Popularity with subordinates may not be the primary goal of finding a manger but one who is task and detail oriented. • Leaders may not always be good managers. Leaders tend to get the job done through a different approach than managers. Leaders evoke the feelings of determination and quality work in others which is not always accomplished under time constraints. The job gets done but in no set time. • Managers set goals and expectations for the group to get done and the group is expected to perform. This is where having a good leader under a good manager creates the...

Position Power and Personal Power

...Position Power and Personal Power A View of Leadership vs. Management owner 12/18/2020 GM:591: Leadership and Organizational Behavior Instructor:   INTRODUCTION In the past twenty to forty years, the face of corporate America has changed drastically from family owned businesses to conglomerates that absorb smaller businesses by the dozens. Those days where a person works for a single company until retirement are long gone. Retirement funds, 401k’s, investment accounts, and high efficiency technology dominate lunch counter conversations, versus our parent’s conversations about family matters and how the kids are doing. Something has been lost from those days where people actually cared about coworkers and each other. I’m sure if you would ask ten people for a reason for the lack of concern, you would get different responses. According to what I have learned through this course in Organization Behavior, all the case studies, and the research on personal and position power, I have concluded that people are not put first. This has lead to and lack of success in business as well as failures. In most recent times, Enron Corporation comes to mind, along with other companies that accepted government bailout money in order to avoid massive layoffs or closing altogether. My group in this course chose to do the group project on position power and personal power. My individual subtopic deals with how a manager with only position power affects his/her subordinates...

Management of Healthcare Organizations

...usually think about leaders and managers within their organization. Both leaders and managers have authority, just different kinds. A manager is an administrator; they are in responsible for their employees, utilize their employees as a resource to accomplish the organization’s goals, and make decisions for their employees. A Leader does not make decisions for their employees; they simply create new guidelines by either leading by example of by encouraging a better way of completing everyday tasks. A manager manages people, leaders use their individual leadership style as a way to guide and encourage employees (McCrimmon, 2011). When an organization is analyzed and managers and leaders looked at it is easy to see what makes them different. A manager depends on control to get tasks completed, they basically demand it. A leader uses the trust that they created to motivate and support the employees they work with. A manager focuses on an organization’s short term goals while a leader will focus on the organizations long term goals. A manager will not worry about developing and promoting their employees, a leader will develop and support their employees. A leader will see that developing the employees around them will make the whole team stronger; a manager just wants to get the job completed. Another big difference is that a manager does things right and a leader will do the right thing (Bennis, 2003). A leader creates a vision and a strategy for the manager to manage on a daily...

Leadership vs Management

...LEADERSHIP VS MANAGEMENT In an organization, questions always arise about the most effective way to run a business so that it can be successful. We often think about the great idea that makes the business in top, the good structure and strategy of the organization made by managers, the fruit of a teamwork, the way directors lead and so much more. All these are true, but the point is whatever activity the organization aims for, how better the strategy and structure are, how great the idea is, without this person who influence, inspire and energize the group to reach a common goal, the organization remains managed but not enough in an effective way. In fact, the success of a business depends on how efficient the leader builds up a culture work in order to incite the group to seek commitment. That is why, leadership is important, as the surplus component of management. In general, management has the duty to plan, organize and coordinate but in term of leadership, a leader produces inspiration and motivation to influence people’s actions towards management. Leader is visionary that makes all company works towards and keep going until achievement. Therefore, not all managers are leaders but all leaders are managers. So, the battle between the best manager and the best leader cannot really take a stand because they are complementary if the organization wants to be successful in an effective way. (Ricketts, 2009) Although they are complementary, their competences and...

...E-mail to Coworker: Manager vs. Leader HCS 514 September 1, 2014 Debra Williams Abstract There is a lot of grey area surrounding the role and obligations between that of a manager and a leader. ...leadership and management can be summarized by saying: “When you act as a leader, your work comes from the heart. When your actions are those of a manager, you work comes from the head.” Albeit it is probably much more complex than this, the major point to focus on is the difference between how you handle yourself as a leader and as a manager—and the continuing need to be able to do both. The head and heart need to act as partners, not work independently. (Coutts, 2000). A manager focuses the majority of their attention on efficiency, effectiveness, and making sure things happen when they are supposed to. You know you are in the role of a manager when you set performance goals with staff, prepare the necessary budgets, review cash flow projections for a business, develop a plan of action, and evaluate company programs or fund raising initiatives or any other major aspect of a company. Management may also include undertaking hundreds of other mundane tasks that require focused and logical attention to detail for the well-being of the organization. (Maccoby, 2000). On the other hand, being in a leadership role requires you to become a strategist, a visionary, and a person who inspires other people to become great. You are a leader when you share your visions on how to better your organization, or when you able to bring staff and other people together to develop a program or design a strategy to resolve a problem. Leaders motivate staff and other people around them, serve as a role model...
