It has been said that Mansa Musa is the richest man ever, However this author disagrees. Mansa Musa was quite wealthy, but there's not enough evidence that he was the richest. Under Mansa Musa reign, he lived in a place called Mali where there was lots of flowing trade. The reign was just north of the gold mines and just south of the salt mines. Because Mali was the central area for trade, they started to tax salt and gold(the most valuable trade item). That’s how most West African kingdoms got money as well as Mansa Musa did.
