Background on the Marble Slab Company: Marble Slab Creamery founded in 1983 in Houston, Texas. It was an independently owned and operated franchise around the United States, in 2003 Cream Company was given the rights to license and develop Mable Slab franchises in Canada. In Feburary 2007 Marble Slab Creamery was purchased by a company called NexCan Brans Inc. Mable Slab nearly 400 stores worldwide and its main product was Ice Cream.
Executive Summary: P. Thomas has recently acquired herself a franchise of Marble Slab Creamery. Penny Thomas had set herself the goal of making $400,000 in revenue within the first year of business, Penny plans to invest $10,000 from her long term loan into marketing and really promoting the opening of her franchise of Marble Slab Creamery.
To achieve the goal of $400,000 in a year Penny needs to sell at a dollar amount of $1,096 daily, assuming the average sale is $5.20 per product, this means on a daily basis Penny would need to sell on average 211 products. ($400,000/365days = $1,096 per day) ($5.20 X 211 products = $1,097.20) (Exhibit 1)
To create a flourishing business, the owner has to select a target market that they want the advertisement to appeal to, then they must determine an efficient way to reach out to that market. For advertising her franchise Penny should try to focus on using Pattison Outdoor as it is the most efficient way to reach mass amounts of customers covering a larger target market. Penny could purchase multiple street level media units. This form of advertisement will be most efficient and effective, it will do this by informing customers about her franchise located in a way that is attractive to her target market. Using these vehicles to promote her franchise Penny can cover more of her target market, which should be families and children 15 years and younger. Penny could achieve this by using more creative and visually appealing advertisements in such locations as Vaughan, Making advertisements that are visually appealing create a want for the children, which then will open the door for parents to fulfil their children's wants and maybe even allow for the parents to buy for themselves as they are already there getting ice cream, this thing is creating customers. Also, this allows for Penny to attract parents who are out on family day outs or doing family activities to see her advertisements and make a detour towards her franchise. (Exhibit 5)
Penny should look to set up her franchise within Thornhill, Vaughan. The location has a large community with many attractions such as; restaurants, theaters and malls which allows for families who are spending a day or evening together could get an ice cream from Marble Slab after they have watched a movie, or They can grab an ice cream before going to the park or after their dinner as a dessert.Thornhill, Vaughan is a great location due to significantly larger population of roughly 295,210 people and more. Though there is a fair amount of competition within the vicinity of the franchise, Penny's goal of selling 211 products daily should be more than achievable within a large market such as Thornhill, Vaughan which will allow her to successfully achieve her goals of $400,000 in revenue with her Marble Slab franchise.(Exhibit 2)
