“Marisol” is about a young, naïve woman who relatively has her life figured out. She goes to work, keeps her head down, and goes home. Her current reality is a place where apples and coffee are extinct while cows produce salty milk. She tries to hide her religion and culture from the people in her life so that she can fit in. Then suddenly, she was attacked by some supposedly crazy man with a golf club on a subway train who is going on and on about angels and the end of the world. She manages to escape but not without being infected with the mass hysteria. I believe this is when Marisol begins to slip through a different reality. There is a theory of alternate realities which indicates that there is a thin fabric of reality similar to our own but each reality branches off and continues on another path based on decisions made in our life. Since there is a war between God and the angels then it is possible with the death of the angels that other realities can tear and bleed into each other. I believe this is what happened to Marisol on the subway. I believe she slipped into her own alternate reality where she actually died on the subway. Therefore, as more and more angels perish, the more alternate and surreal her reality becomes. The confusion that she experiences further indicates that this isn’t her world anymore. When she is confronted with the reality that God is old and doesn’t care about Earth as well as an angel uprising, she refuses to believe that she can take care of herself without aide from God. Her codependence on God and the belief that he will take care of her further cripples her ability to take care of herself like a child not ready to grow up. However, despite the confusion she experiences, Marisol manages to become more independent and sympathetic to those around her. She also manages to retain focus on finding June, finding answers about God, and caring for Lenny. She doesn’t lose herself in the chaos of the world and towards the end of the play she finally accepts her fate.
Themes
The central theme of this play is the journey to salvation as well as freedom from the prisons we create in our mind. In present day New York, there are people who are kidnapped and tortured because of their credit card debt which similar to our world, presently. The apathy for a dying man on the street is irrelevant to someone who gone over their credit limit. It is more important to worry about being chained by debt rather than the homeless that line the streets. The world is being punished for its crimes against humanity and the punishment is pestilence. Everyone becomes infected with fear and mass hysteria. This is probably how apples and coffee became extinct, seemingly common food sources that are taken for granted are gone. The religious implications of the extinct apples relates to original sin, which everyone is born damned or a sinner. There is no way to escape it because we are infected by it from the beginning, even the angels need salvation. Humans are seen as the plague of the world and in Marisol, the homeless are seen as the plague of the world. In a way, humanity has lost its humanity because we look the other way rather than face our problems head on. As a result, it is the beginning of the end of days and all that matters is who will survive and find their hope again. People need to let go of their fears and focus on what is most important like bravery and altruism. The next important theme of this play is freedom. It is freedom from fear and paranoia for example it was announced over the PA to not trust anyone. People imprison themselves from really living because they live in fear and paranoia. The fear of not being accepted by others or being paranoid that the ones closest to us will betray us which is seen a lot in this play. But, even after a betrayal, is it possible to receive forgiveness?
Others themes in Marisol include consumerism, irony, desire, and the end of days. Another major problem with the world is consumerism, which dictates that we can never have enough. The credit card debt is a contributing factor of consumerism. Credit cards leave us with a false sense of security until we are bound to them and yet it keeps us consuming more and more. In addition, the roaches in Marisol and June’s apartment represent consumerism as well. The irony is not only did it bring a sense of security but it made people targets for the Neo-Nazis. Another sense of irony is between Marisol and the lady with the fur coat. In a way, Marisol had become the man with the golf club and the lady in the fur coat had become Marisol. After what Marisol had been through the woman seemed crazy for not believing her. Religion is also a major theme of this play because it affects almost every scene. When Marisol was a young girl and she was being chased from school, her angel turned them into pillars of salt. Then, there was the woman who mistaken Marisol for her boyfriend’s girlfriend and she was turned into salt. The golden crown that floats above the stage evokes the sense of a unseeing presence like God and the Angels. As I wrote earlier, in the beginning of Act I, the world had become infected in a sense and towards the end of Act I, Marisol finally accepts the war has begun. Chaos and confusion take to the streets as well as the war of angels above. As more and more of them die, the more surreal life on Earth becomes. It also plays into the duality of the wars on Earth and in Heaven. Everyone is fighting each other and trying to survive while above them angels die trying to save the world below.

Case Study of Human Development

...Case Study of Human Development Development throughout life differs from individual to individual. Each person has their own agenda for cultural identity, growth, health, socioeconomic status, education, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and all inspire each person’s life story. Adulthood is frequently observed as when an individual is considered officially and developmentally prepared to hold responsibilities such as driving, voting, getting married, and entering the military. The course of becoming mature does not finish with adolescence but remains throughout adulthood as psychological, security and self-actualization requirements are met (Ehow, 1999-2011). Adulthood is separated into three categories, which are young adulthood, middle age and old age. In Erik Erikson's stages of human development, a young adult is an individual between the ages of 19 and 39. The early adulthood period in human development leads the middle adulthood phase. An individual in the middle adulthood stage is between 40 and 60 years old. An individual in their 60’s is considered late adulthood. During early adulthood the young adult phase includes the personal necessity for sex and intimacy. Isolation happens when an individual fails to achieve intimacy. The young adult finds out that love and compassion may help them to obtain what they desire. And when we don't find it easy to create satisfying relationships, our world can begin to shrink as, in defense, we can feel...

48 Am: A Short Story

...7:48 AM "I need some vodka." My coworker, Marisol, groans as we walk into work together. I laugh, knowing exactly what she means. "I've been in your shoes before boo." "Antonio won't leave me the hell alone. I told him to go fuck himself several times and he won't take the hint," she huffs, folding her arms across her chest. I take off my jacket, folding it neatly so I can put it in my desk drawer. I work the front desk at Magnus's Inc. It's not an ideal job but it pays extremely well, especially since New York is an expensive city to live in. "That's what happens when you give a man too many chances. He thinks you will take him back every time he fucks up." I sit down, booting up the Mac desktop. Marisol leans on the large black desk, very likely...

Music

...Noche Cultural - ucr In this ethnographic research project, I will explain my recent visit to a Hispanic concert located at The University of Riverside located in their Theater. In this paper I will discuss the type of music that was played, the performers, and instruments that the performers used to play in this concert. In addition I will also incorporate and give a brief history of these performers and the influences these musicians had. By concentrating on these aspects I will be able to understand the Music’s culture and also have the opportunity to listen to something new. I will also analyze the audience and the venue where this concert was held at. So I’m able to understand more of the audience and the community they live in. On a Friday 13 around 7:00 p.m. my friend Christy and I decided to attend to the concert called, “21st Annual Noche cultural”. We initially picked this concert because we read an online advertisement and it was in Spanish so we thought it would be a good idea to attend to this concert since it was the type of music we were both able to understand. When we arrived at the concert I honestly thought it was going to be empty and no one was going to attend but surprisingly a lot of people were present .There was even a stand by line because all the tickets were already sold out. Cfo Resignation Memo

...Memorandum To: Accounting Manager From: Marisol Covena Date: September 10, 2012 Subject: LGA Entertainment CFO Resignation As part as the suddenly resignation of our CFO, Alberto Lizarraga, our company has the obligation to deal frankly, comprehensively, and immediately with any material information. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has a list of disclosures requirements, which attempted to protect the public from abuses in the issuance and sale of securities. SEC have requested our company for certain documentation due to an apparently concern of the revenue recognition. The SEC has challenged corporations and public relations firms on the accuracy of information they disseminate for clients. The SEC in 2000 adopted regulation FD, or “Fair Disclosure”. Basically, regulation FD requires companies to widely disseminate any material announcement. It is imperative to disclosure the information rather than withholding it. According with Seitel (2011) the most effective crisis communicators are those who provide prompt, frank, and full information to the media in the eye of the storm. If we communicate our situation to our stakeholders, we are going to stop rumors and they will be calmed. Our goal is to terminate the crisis quickly, limit the damage and restore credibility. It may take quick remedial action however it will be well worth. Our company needs to proceed with ethics, in others words, “doing the right thing” calming external stakeholders regarding...

...McDonalds Corporation Kim Keevers, Eileen Pool, Marisol Maroles, Erik Lapre University of Phoenix MGT 230 Sylvester Taylor June 08, 2012 Decades of growth have taken McDonald’s Corporation from a small town investment into a global money maker. McDonald’s is relatively clean, cheap and convenient; there are many downsides of this business. The organization promotes itself with the use of a clown named Ronald McDonald. Despite all the press and content published over the past decade on nutrition, McDonald’s still promotes its greasy burgers and salt laden fries. However, over the past few years, McDonald’s has come under scrutiny for this and as an alternative has started to clean up its greasy act. Today they are promoting the same burgers but have added fried chicken, baked chicken with sauce’s that makes one question if the nutritional content of these foods is even acceptable. McDonald’s does many things correctly, such as their efforts to help children with life illnesses, but still produce food that contributes to obesity and heart disease, to name a few illnesses. Many have all seen the movie, entitled “Super-Size Me”. This individual ate McDonald’s for quite a while and almost died. The movie portrays the actor getting regular checkups but the result of this eating created more issues for the actor even after he got off the fast food wagon. So what does this say to our youth? Statistically, the company practices are questionable. Rather than use...

...more about them, he devises a plan to stop them from fighting using whatever means necessary, and finally once all the town’s threats to peace have been eliminated then he leaves. Now this is a very simplistic version of the events that occurred in the novel and the film, but it is still basically what happened. There are many major differences in the detailed plot. Like the fact that in the novel, the reason that the continental op is there in the first place is to solve Donald Willsson’s murder and ends up solving the murders of Tim Noonan and Dinah Brand as well. The film also introduces characters that have their own subplot that is completely separate from the novel. In the film, the man with no name helps save the small family of Marisol, Julio, and Jesus. This subplot of the film added a religious element that the book did not have. The scene where the man with no name helps the family get away is also a gesture of kindness and compassion that the continental op never showed. The Continental op only became close with Dinah Brand in the novel and in the end, he did not save her and for a portion of the book he was the suspect of her...

Viral ads Benefits: It could reach a larger and more targeted audience; It could save money for costing little more than the cost of production; It could offer the potential for higher levels of consumer engagement with the brand, for the viral ads' interactivity and source from acquaintances. Costs: The viral success was the exception; It was difficult to predict which video would be widely viewed and shared. TV: Benefits: 1. As the major mass media, TV could deliver a larger number of ad impressions and its economics was well-understood. 2. The major source of the millennial was still television. Costs: 1. The quality of TV’s impression cannot be guaranteed because viewers often consumed the ads passively or avoided most of them. 2. TV ads are much more expensive; I think Brisk should choose the viral ads following the Super Bowl ad. 1. One of Brisk Campaign’s goals is to increase its fan base on sites like Facebook and Youtube, building an online presence to rival those of its competitors. 2.
