Public Service Announcements (PSAs) are advertisements intended to raise awareness of a topic and to change public attitudes (rather than sell a product), often advocating better health practices or safety (Jess Dudley, 2013). The purpose of this study is to introduce two advertisements, one is smoking and another one is dunk drive. The paper is structured as follows: the first section will present the background which shows the perniciousness of smoking and dunk drive. The second part will show the content of the smoking advertisement, and the third part will introduce the target audiences and influence to people by AIDA. After that, the dunk drive advertisement will be presented. The first part of this advertisement will present the content. And then, this essay will introduce the adverting media of this advertisement and advantages. Finally, this essay will introduce the marketing ethics and segmentation.

There are many reasons cause health hazards in recent years, such as smoking and drunk driving. Smoking is the main element of preventable deaths. Accounting to the research shows that about 80,000 people death in England in 2011 and nearly 9,500 children illness because of secondhand smoke (Jane Ellison, 2013). Additionally, excessive drinking is another threat, especially dunk driving. In 2012, there are 290 people dead cause by drinking, which occupied with 17 percent in all the road traffic accidents (Ray Massey, 2013). Thus, those two social advertisements were made.

The first advertisement is about smoking. The advertisement use exaggeration way to represent the harm of smoking. To begin with, a man comes out from his house and smoking outside. Then the cigarette becomes a shape of lung with he smoking. At the same time, a bird flies away. After that, the color of the lung is becoming black slowly. Finally, it leads to the lung failure when the cigarette sucks off. Therefore, not only the target audience of this advertisement is smokers, but also it is a warning for non-smokers. Meanwhile, the main adverting media is television, because it has great influential. “Television advertisement use audio, visuals and actions to deliver the message and when consumers see the ad a couple of times, they are slowly influenced and persuaded”(Kathy, 2013).

Additionally, this advertisement has great influence in terms of all people. Firstly, not only the topic of this advertisement is a link between people and society, but also it has strong pertinence, because it can cause the attention by public. Secondly, harm person harm oneself is another characteristic though this advertisement, it shows the perniciousness of smoking by deteriorative lung. Moreover, it imposes a threat to surrounding environment. For example, owing to the smoking man, the bird flies away in the advertisement.

In addition, another behaves that endanger life, safety or healthy is drinking, because it can cause dunk drink. The percentage of road fatalities has increased from 12.6% in 2010 to 16% in 2011, which is 1/6 of alcohol consumption (James Foxall, 2013).

The content of this advertisement as follow. Firstly, a boy is playing football with his father under a sweet atmosphere and the background music is very soft. After that, the scene changes to a bar and there are four men are drinking. Then, a drink heavily man leaves this bar and drives to home. Due to the stimulation of alcohol, the man looks so exciting. Suddenly, the car bursts out the road and rushes into the football field which the boy is playing. Sadly, the boy is involved into the turning car and dead. His father rushes at the boy and cry.

The adverting media of television presents it as well and the target audiences of this advertisement are drivers and children. On the one hand, it warns drivers to avoid dunk driving. On the other hand, it also teaches children do not dunk drive after they grow up. Owing to this is a public service advertisement and the purpose of this advertisement is to attract more people to pay attention to this social problem, dunk drive. Attracting vast audiences is an advantage of television advertisement and this advertisement is accord with this advantage. So, it is succeed which using the way of television advertisement to spread.

In this advertisement, the background music changes from happy to sad which tells people that dunk drive is very dangerous, because divers often overrate their ability under the stimulation of alcohol. In fact, their ability of judgment, ability of analysis and operational capacity are decreasing, that is why the accidents happened. From another perspective, the major role-played by adults and children. It uses the principle of emotion. Father of a child hit by a car in the performance of grief, people's inner world can be probation. Additionally, the drunk divers show too much panic, while showing people with guilt. Through these people will be more concerned about drunk driving, drunk driving is a serious harm to remember that people bring.

In marketing ethics, public service announcement has truthfulness in social market. Because it reveals that are real of social issues. Meanwhile, it is emphasize that dignity of the human person as well as the social responsibility. As mention of that smoking and dunk diver. Not only can social behavior rules by public service announcement but also is a kind of warn people. In addition the Public Service Announcement are also relate to marketing segmentation. On the one hand, form the aspect of demographic, drunk driving and smoking issue is whether people in that age group should be to focus on the issue. Because involves people's health and safety. On the other hand, especially for smokers and drunk driving a psychological hint of these unique populations.

In conclude, it is easy to find that both those advertisements are Public Service Announcements. In modern times, the mass media urged people to take action in their best interests and provide an important tool for the community. Many of these information are in public service advertisement.(William M. O'Barr,2006). The first one is about to smoking, which main target audiences are smoker by the media is television. Meanwhile, it is also a warning for non-smoker. This advertisement is to bring the effective of warning people smoking can threat the biological health and living environment. Another advertisement is regard to dunk driving. Firstly, the target audiences of this advertisement are drivers and children. Secondly, it uses television advertisement as media and attracts more audiences. Finally, alcohol-related traffic accident can be fatal. Additionally, the two advertisements conform to marketing ethics that has truthfulness. All in all, these advertisements not only appeal to attention to health but also warn to people some behavioral norms.
