It was a cold December night my best friend Calvin is back in town. He calls me u and decides to come by for a late night visit. Just minutes later I hear a hard knock on the door. I go to open it and there was Calvin, “Aye bro. Wat up?” “Nothing much Calvin it’s pretty late wats goin on man. U bangin at ma doe like dat at this time.” “Nothin much bro just wanna let you know yo bachelor party is goin down at my crib this weekend.” “Ok fasho bro! My shit finna be turnt” “No shit Sherlock it’s gonna be at my place. Yo and I got a special guest for you.” “On me bro. Don’t tell me I wanna be surprised.” “Well you can stay down here till morning if you want” “Thanks bro.”
I went back to bed but couldn’t sleep cause I was tryin to think what the special guest was. My fiancé Rosa Lee asked, ” Who was at the door babe?” “Oh it was just my bestfriend Calvin. Remember him bae.”
“Ha, wat was his crazy ass talking about?’’
“Oh nothing…” “Yo lien ass.I her him talkin bout throwin some party and special guest. It just betta not be in ma house.” “Damn bae, it’s not and besides I don’t even think ima go it’s gona be a waste of my time. Why you bein all nosy anyway?”
Two days later I went to go hang wit the boys and maybe have a few drinks. We all met at my house so we could get some real food made by my baby Rosa Lee.
“Hey Rosa Lee just to let you know I’m stealing the bro Elias for the weekend.”
“Ok Calvin that means if anything happens you are responsible. Don’t do nothing stupid.”
We all go to a bar for some drinks and to shoot some pool. Eventually the boys leave and it’s just Calvin and I. We decide to call it a night and head back to the bro house. While we was walkin up to the door all his lights went off.
“Woe Bro did you see that? A Lights were just on.”
“Foreal bro.”
“Lets go see wat the deal is. Hello?
“The lights must have blew out.”
We went in the house being very attentive. As soon as I close the door I hear another voice. This one is not a man it’s a feminine voice.
“Step away from the door you are surrounded.”
The lights came on and all my boys were there. The exotic dancer come out and I am in instant shock.
“Bro u really did this shit fo me?”
“Yea man. You like family to me. Of course ima go all out wit it.”
The dancer takes her robe off to reveal this silky red mini dress. I was instantly fixed on her bodily curves and assets.
“You got a name? Asked the girl.
“Um Uh yea its uh my name is Elias. You got a name?”
“Yea my name is Rosetta but call me Rosie.”
“Fasho.”
The night goes on and me and Rosie hit it off in the guest room. The guys start to see another side of me they never seen before all except Calvin. I began to act like animals in heat and make noises. The night continued for what seemed like hours. It finally begin to die down and people head home. I end up Staying in the Guest room. I later woke up to see if Rosie had gone and then fell into a deep sleep which lasted all day.
The next day comes and Calvin decides to wake me.
“Yo bro, lets go play some ball with the boys later.”
“Let’s go.”
While ballin up, Calvin asks me about the night.
“So wat you think about that chick. It seemed to have forgotten who yo fiancé is. Dealing wit Rosie I almost forgot my name. that’s how bad it got”
“Man its like she got some type of spell on me. I can’t get her outta my mind. She was dope. Got me thinkin more than I need to. She got me wantin to hit that.”
Then it was back to work for all of us. I go back to work with many new things to come. My boss introduces my new secretary who turns out to be Rosie.
“Elias, do you have any meetings today?”
“Yes Sir I will be in meetings the rest of the day after 9.”
“Good Rosetta will be assisting you today in your meetings.”
“Ok sir.”
When I finally looked up I noticed who she was and once again I was fixed on the beauty in my sight. I suffered a great deal to get through work that day. On her second day of work she decides to take lunch early I came down task her about the report that is due tomorrow. “Rosie, Rosie! Hold on. I tried to catch you before you left the office. I know your heading to lunch right now, but I need to know that your gonna have the report done by 2pm tomorrow.”
“hahaha”, she said. “You the Director of whatever, came to ask mefor some report?”
“Director of Central Affairs and yeah. I mean yes I did. I need to know.”
“You not yo other secretary came down to ask me for these papers?”
“Look Rosie, is they gone be done or naw?”
Yea. Look do you wanna go to lunch with me?”
“Uh um. I can’t right now. Im in the middle of something.”
“Um, Do I make you nervous? Ya know I don’t bite unless you want me to.”
I start thinkin other thoughts and convince myself its just lunch. And take her up on her offer.
“ You still think im cute?”
“Your beautiful.”
“I think your pretty sexy
Yourself.”
“Is dat right?”
“Sho is.”
I leave later and finally get home. My fiancé is sitting on the couch.
“How was work babe? You forgot about our lunch date. ” She says.
“Im sorry babe I forgot I had a lot of work to do that had to be finished by today.”
“Ok.”
I could tell she was thinking because she was lookin really hard at me.so I decided to go to bed. The next day while im at work, Rosa Lee gets a call from her aunt saying that her mom is in the hospital and has been placed in intensive care. I rush home to see whats going on.
“Honey what happened is she ok?”
“Naw bae ma mama is in the hospital. Ima have to go out of town to see wats wrong. I’ll be gon for a while.”
“Go ahead baby. Your mother is mo important than anything here. Go take care of her.”
She leaves at once. I wait a few hours then call Rosie to come keep me company. She waited another hour and then came by. When she gets to the door I let her in and things got heated.
After having hours of hot sex, I decide to shower and dress.
“Elias that was great. Do you regret it though?”
“Maybe not if we did it once more.”
We go in again for another round.
After she spent the night with me, I got up to get something to drink. Rosa Lee calls me. I Struggled to hide m good feelings because the cause was standing right in front of me.
“Hello?”
“Hey baby”
“Hey”
“What’s going on, I tried calling you earlier but you didn’t answer your phone.”
“Yea I must have missed it.”

Rosa Lee leaves before I could get to her. Then things get worse when I get there.
“Rosa Lee I’m home…

Luaren, I’m…

“ If you were so concerned why you aint come to see about me instead of goin out wit ya friends. And why you change the sheets?”
“Oh, I uh spilled ice cream on them that’s all!”

“yea I can tell. Yo phone is ringing.”
“You gunna stay pissed off at me or you gunna give me a kiss, hug, sumthin?”
“I’m sorry. I was busy. I was in the middle of sumthin important and had to get it finished. When you came in, I was off guard; you got me by surprise that’s all. Come on.”
“Alright, I’m sorry guess I was jumping to conclusions.”
“Yea…”
Later after dinner we laid on the couch to watch TV. And my phone rings again. I go to get my jacket and leave.
“Where you goin?”
“Ima be back”
I went to Calvin’s house to talk about Rosie. Calvin opens the door and says,
“No you didn’t.”
“What am I gunna do, how am I gunna tell her?”
“You don’t tell her, you end it with Rosie and throw dat ole phone in da closet. I suggest you tell her tonight.
“I can’t.”
“Whatchu mean you cant?”
“I know we just gone end up hittin it again.”
“Bro, is you that weak? Look Rosa Lee is a good woman, a beautiful one. Why you gon throw that away over some girl you aint even know? Hold up man, you got me feelin like a chick right now. Don’t be no thirsty ass.”
“You right, you right.”
“Then call her right now.”
So I go to her house and we sittin on the steps talking.
“I’m sorry, I can’t do this no more.”
“I understand.”
“It just aint right. I cant even look at her in the eye.”
“So wat we gon do? Act like it never happened.”
“If you can do that.”
I went home and Rosa Lee was gone. I fell asleep and woke up to find that my ring was on the table with a note that said,
“If tyou are reading this its because im gone. I hope imnot jumpin to conclusions but I know that the earring I stepped on was not mine. You lied to me and I geave you every chance to fix it now im gone and its over. I hope you find a true love and hope she is the right one.

Miracle

...Well this would be my first time to be able to say something about myself. And looking for a picture that best represent me is a bit harder until I came across this picture. Perhaps this picture I believe represents best of me. My heart beats for my family as reflected on the ECG graph. I am all that I am because of my family. Live and breath for my family. Work and play for my family. A family that I thought I would never have. And I believe I have a wonderful story to tell. Well to make it short, after 4 years of marriage with body clock ticking I conceived through artificial insemination and gave birth to a healthy and beautiful baby boy via caesarean section. Looking back to the days we were struggling to get pregnant I believe I had done everything. Literally everything. Gave up my physical therapy practice and even opportunity to work abroad. Done all lab test, took fertility pills and daily injections that all leads to fights with my husband ( mood swings brought bout hormonal pills ) gone to church daily in Baclaran and Quiapo. (I combine science and my faith ) and after our first attempt of insemination it was successful. It was a miracle. A blessing that I got pregnant. And while I was pregnant I lost my mother . I was resentful. I ask for a life and in turn a precious life was taken away from me . I was devastated and broken but my baby in my tummy kept me strong. And so I kept the faith. At age of 36 I had my son. The picture...

The War at Home Essay

...Introduction This book “The War at Home” by Shawn J. Gourley is a great book to read because it reveals the hardship of one family’s fight against PTSD. Over the years, soldiers have struggled with PTSD that not only affects them, but their families, friends, and the surrounding communities. This book sheds light for everyone to actually read and know the signs and symptoms of PTSD. Furthermore, you will actually feel how one’s family had the strength and determination to find their path to recovery. To know that anyone can overcome the devastating obstacles they had to encounter. This family’s struggle learned to find peace with the effects of PTSD and cope with these symptoms throughout their lives. This story was mainly about Shawn and Justin going through the struggles of PTSD and dealing with these hardships throughout the years. Although they had met prior to Justin joining the military in 2000, their life was as normal as any other couple would experience. It wasn’t until Justin joined the service and had re-classed into being an Operation’s Specialist where he was trained to react and secure the dead no matter the cost. His rigorous training had so much impact that when he was in the service, he endured many obstacles to include seeing dead bodies, securing them, keeping everyone calm as stress levels were high, and reacting with hostile intent where his sense of death and danger were heightened. This was not Justin’s primary job as his...

Essay on Claudius

...A capable king or a foolish peasant? That is the question. The tragic story of Hamlet written by William Shakespeare in the 1600’s invites us into the minds of many ruthless characters. Claudius was appointed king after his brothers’ suffering death followed by his marriage to the queen. Claudius plays a confident king to the eye of Denmark,; yet inside he is unstable and hides an unforgiving secret that he himself killed the king. His erratic behavior begins to worry him about his choices and eventually leads him into destroying his relationships with the people closest to him. This essay will investigate the process Claudius went through as he descends from his aspiration to be king, to guilt, to finally, self-defeat. Claudius made a courageous speech to the court about his sorrows towards the kings’ death. However, he was just trying to cover up how he betrayed his own brother. Claudius shows confidence and leadership in his speech, he started with saying “Though yet of Hamlet our dear brother’s death/The memory be green, and that it us befitted/To bear our hearts in grief and our whole kingdom/To be contracted in one brow of woe” (1. 2, 1-4). This shows the reader that Claudius is taking charge of the situation and telling the people of the court to stay strong and move on; displaying his ambition to be king. As declared by Nicholas J. Bonnet, “This speech seems carefully planned out, as if Claudius had written it out before he delivered it” in his article on Student Pulse...

Compare the Ways in Which Shakespeare and Marvell Have Used Poetic Form, Structure and Language to Present Their Thoughts and Feelings of Love

...portrayal and belief of true and constant love in ‘Sonnet 116’, whereas in Marvell’s ‘To his Coy Mistress’, the speaker is driven by passion and desire to fulfil lust, that could potentially turn into love. Marvell’s representation may be harsh, but it is more considerate of a harsher reality. Through structure, Shakespeare defines his true feelings of love – by telling the reader what love is, and what it isn’t. It presents the extreme ideal of romantic love and insists that this is the only love that can be ‘true’, otherwise ‘no man ever loved’. The division of his argument is presented through conventional Sonnet quatrains. In the first quatrain, Shakespeare says that love – ‘the marriage of true minds’- is perfect and unchanging and does not differ when there are changes in a loved one. The idea of marriage is present in the background of this poem from the very first line. However,...

The Time

...The Time What is the most horrible of institutions that ever entered human lives? Anyone, by the perceived notion of institutions might start listing education, family, marriage, state, religion etc. But, if we think once, all these institutions have something in common. They are all time - framed, time – bound, and submit us to conformity, which is again fitting itself into the framework of larger time that is life time. So, I would say, it is time that is the major institution that changed the face of our lives. Not only ours, but of course of the whole human society, be it in any part of the world. If you are someone like Plato, you would say, there is no such thing like time that is making life hard for us. Instead, it is the idea of time that is responsible for all the commotion. Well, I do agree with such people and say, “The Clock is the culprit”, and enquire how this dire consequence happened to us. Unfortunately, to track how this at all happened, we should still rely on time, gazing back at the past, so that our arguments would make some sense. By this, we could say that, time is eternal to our lives. It neither has a beginning nor ending. The entire creation moves on according to a time pattern. Time is one of those many necessary evils that happened to us. Tracing back to history, we don’t have any evidence to suggest when the word ‘time’ derived or established semantically, but the word ‘clock’ is derived from the Latin word ‘clocca’ which means ‘bell’ or French...

Romance Genre

...has romance as their main plot. Which means in most Hollywood films, Romantic Love is a major concern. Contemporary American cinema still uses the same formal in romance films. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl and then boy gets girl in the end. Bellour a film critic, identifies this convention as pattern that constitutes classical Hollywood cinema as a whole (“Alternation” 88). This illustrates that Hollywood often portrays and idealized version of love. Hollywood’s emphasis on romantic love and courtship, is almost like a reflection of America’s commercial enterprise. Producing movies only for mass entertainment purposes. We happen to live in society in which the choice of partners and marriages completely free. Although Pierre Bourdieu (1990) has argued that our relationships and marriage patterns have been heavy influenced by cultural institutions. As Hollywood film is particularly addressed to young people, film can be seen as an institution that has influenced their formation of ‘habitus’ or their behaviour towards courtship. Popular romantic films are often provocative and complex. They tell us about ourselves as men and women. Sexual desire, love, relationships and our fallibilities and fears. They show us how our beliefs, what we should think and how we should behave. They reflect the attitudes, prejudices and assumptions we make about love and relationships. Romance films represent our wishes and desires and transform them into alternative imaginative realties...

Sylvia Plath

...Sylvia Plath (1932-1963) An American poet and novelist of the 20th century was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Sylvia Plath is best known for her semi-autobiographical novel The Bell Jar and her second volume of poetry collection, Ariel. She was one of the most dynamic and expressive poets of her time. As a student she was successful, won many awards and scholarships ,at the age of 11 she started keeping a journal of her poems of which many were published in her early years itself. However, inspite of such perfections in her academic life she felt anything but perfect in her own skin. Her poems show her deep anguishes with her own life involving her broken marriage with Ted Hughes, unresolved issues with her parents with so much light on the passing of her father when she was only eight and her own vision of herself. At the time of her undergraduate years she has started showing symptoms of severe depression and already had a history of mental illness since childhood which ultimately lead her to her death. Her conditions led her to try to commit suicide not once but twice before she finally succeeded the third time. She had a sort of disturbed mind which can be felt through her much personal poems such as “daddy” which brings out her deep insecurities of being “fatherless” Feminists potrayed Sylvia as a woman driven to madness by a domineering father, unfaithful husband and demanding duties of motherhood. The hardness of her life increased her need to write ,which she could...

Representation of American Art History

...The six works of American art that I have chosen all represent women. These paintings show how women were depicted by American artists. Some of the works of art show only women or children, while one of the portraits shows a couple. John Singleton Copley painted Portrait of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mifflin (Sarah Morris). This is the only portrait that I have selected that shows both man and woman. I feel that these six works of art show the growth of how women were presented from 1671-1893. The works of art that I have selected are Mrs. Elizabeth Freake and Baby Mary(1671-74), Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mifflin(1773), The White Girl(1862), Miss Amelia Van Buren(1891), A Virgin(1892-93),and Lady Agnew of Lachnaw(1892-93. I believe that these paintings are similar in many ways, yet different as well. Anonymous, Mrs. Elizabeth Freake and Baby Mary, This painter, although unknown, can be attributed to half-dozen portraits that were painted in Boston. This colonial painter shows their knowledge of traditional British portraiture that is derived from representations of Elizabeth I. As you can see by looking at this painting, this artist gave more attention to the clothing that Mrs. Elizabeth Freake is wearing then to Mrs. Freake’s characteristics. This portrait was done in oil on a 42 ½ X 36 ¾ “ canvas. One way that I feel that this painting is different than the other paintings is that it is a pendant portrait. This was painted to hang next to the portrait of Mr. Freake. These paintings...

Richard Cory Research Paper

...Naturalistic conflict remains evident in all time periods, especially the time period of these works. These works show how naturalism can be represented in many different ways: societal norms, race, economic, environmental, hereditary. Edith Wharton’s purpose for writing Ethan Frome was to represent helpless marriages, and marrying for convenience and not love. This is shown through the environmental, economic, and physical conflict which pops up throughout the story. Also the same with Bret Harte, the author of “The Outcasts Of Poker Flat”. He tried to show the consequences that come with naturalistic conflicts such as social, economic, and especially environmental. The last author/poet, Edwin Arlington Robinson, poet for: “Luke Havergal”, “Miniver Cheevy”, and “ Richard Cory” wrote these pieces to show the undertones of death in three different ways using naturalistic conflicts, such as economic, environmental, and heredity. Lastly, at the end of Richard Cory, he dies from a bullet through the head. This quote here, “And he was always quietly arrayed...

...be described as a biological time clock the type that you can hear each second go by. Yinyun Li describes time to be intrusive and elusive that does not respect one’s thoughts or feelings. Li states that “when we speak of indecision, it’s an internal deadline that we’re afraid of both meeting and not meeting” (112). The deadline to have children can be as early as 35. This internal deadline brings forth a connection to divorce rates being approximately fifty percent one can say that is due to the constant pressure put on relationships. Li’s statement is in regards to the biological time clock that woman feel which Twenge vividly describes. Twenge says that it is “especially--women who are living with their boyfriend [who] hear the loud ticking of the biological clock as years go by and no proposal is imminent” (153). I Have the Right to Be Healthir Than Those Surrounding Me

...I Have the Right to Be Healthier Than Those Surrounding Me Growing up in an alcoholic home had a major impact on the person I am today, but it isn’t who I am today. I used to be scared of my own shadow, lacking confidence and self- esteem. This stemmed from a father who used to insult and criticize everything I ever did. Belittled every achievement I ever made. Nothing I ever did seemed to be good enough, I either made par or I constantly disappointed him. A small example of this was before graduation, my father told me he didn’t think I was going to graduate. He didn’t think I was smart enough to pass high school. I graduated Summa Cum Laude in a class of over 500 students. I was afraid of authority figures and criticism. This was evident in my work environment. I constantly avoided situations where my boss would have to speak with me and would never miss a day of work, even if I was sick, because I never wanted to be scolded or reprimanded. Both of my parents instilled that fear into me. I always wanted to be a people pleaser even if it was at the expense of my own happiness. I had and still do have a very hard time saying no to someone. I have before, and continue to put myself in situations that make it hard on me in order to make it easier for someone else. An example would be picking up shifts at work for a co- worker even when I know that working a double will leave me with little to no sleep and a lost opportunity to complete homework. My emotional needs were...

...Zeba Hasan March 12, 2013 WRD 104 Professor Staley Suspected Terrorists Post 9/11: Constitution Abandoned The Founding Fathers of the United States created a basic set of laws that all people and officials abide by. Every individual has the right to a fair and speedy trial and the accessibility to a lawyer according to the Sixth Constitutional Amendment. The Eighth Constitutional Amendment bans cruel and unusual punishment while the Fourth Amendment prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures. The words ‘people’ and ‘individual’ occur frequently in the Constitution and do not specify a certain group of people or whether a person must be a United States citizen for these amendments to take effect. Michael E. Cannon, member of the military service for over twenty-two years, noted that these amendments are not followed through when it comes to investigations outside of the United States, notoriously in the Middle East where countless infamous prisons torture prisoners daily, such as Abu Ghraib (Cannon). Many arguments are made as to whether torture should or should not be used during investigations. Torture, in some circumstances, has been shown to aid investigations or in some way break the prisoner. Americans feel secure knowing that they are controlling people from the same nationality or religion as those who hurt the nation tremendously a few years ago. Although the safety of United States’ citizens is a vital necessity and a right when living in the nation, it should not...

Shooting an Elephant

...Shooting an Elephant: The Death of Free Will George Orwell’s essay, Shooting an Elephant, was first published in 1936 in the autumn issue of New Writing, a London periodical. According to Adrian De Lange, Shooting an Elephant is one of Orwell’s most famous essays (Bloom 9). It cannot be established whether or not it was an actual account of something that Orwell experienced, something he witnessed or if it is solely fictitious, but is accepted that this essay was written out of Orwell’s experiences while he was a member of the Imperial India Police Force in Burma, described by Orwell as, “five boring years” (Abrahams 194). There are many apparent and some not so apparent themes in this work. The harmful results of Imperialism, prejudice, and living by your own conscience are all valid and thought provoking themes. A theme that is also valid and beneficial to examine is the dangers of isolation and alienation and how those states can manifest in dangerous, even deadly ways. Isolation and alienation can be very damaging on the human spirit. That damage can lead to actions that do irreparable harm to an individual as well as a community. In Shooting an Elephant the narrator finds himself isolated because of his role as policeman in a foreign country and by the hostility and mistrust of the Burmese citizens he must police. This isolation leads to vulnerability and weakness when faced with mob pressure. When given into, peer pressure leads to death:...
