In the beginning God created Adam and Eve, where God made Eve out of Adam’s rib. There was no religious marriage “ceremony” but He created Eve for Adam. Adam and Eve then had children. God made one man for one woman, so I am assuming God meant it to be that marriage would a one to one function. As Malachi 2:14 says, “You ask, “Why?” It is because the Lord is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.” This scripture meaning that marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman before God. A Christian marriage is between a man and a woman, in front of God, and the marriage is permanent. Thus if the marriage is broken by way of divorce it is breaking a covenant between not only the man and woman, but also breaking a covenant between God. In the Bible, covenants are very important, as seen with the covenants between Abraham and God, Noah and God, etc.

In mathematics there are functions and one to one functions. Marriage can be related to functions and ordered pairs. In an ordered pair there is the x and the y, which are also known as the domain (x) and the range (y). The definition of a function in math is when each element in the domain must go to a unique range element. The difference between a function and a one to one function is that in a one to one function it is a function for which each domain value is associated with exactly one range value, e.g., (3,2),(4,6),(1,5) IS a 1 to 1 function but, (3,2),(4,5),(1,5) IS NOT a 1 to 1 function because two x values produce the same y value of 5. Thus, in marriage if you input one spouse’s name it should return the other spouse’s name because marriage is a one to one function.
Now, in America getting married seems to have lost touch with its one to one function quality. The marriage rate of America is about 6.8% per 1,000 people and the divorce rate is about 3.6% (www.cdc.gov), making it over half of the marriages are resulting in divorce. Now this rate is contributed to by many factors, and ultimately it is still a high divorce rate, but one of these factors could be that it seems as if many people will marry because of the others pulchritude, which shouldn't be the only reason to marry. Thus, making it easy for a marriage to result in a divorce, because if one person in the relationship finds some who is “better looking” and would rather be that other person rather than the person they are legally and spiritually bonded with.

These factors of a high divorce rate vary but as in 2 Corinthians 6:14 it reads “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” The factor of if your significant other is not equal in your faith together and not yoked should definitely be considered in a relationship before proposing or getting engaged and especially before getting married. Another one of these factors is that there is a need for lucubration for a marriage to succeed and 1 Corinthians 7:3 actually touches on this “The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.”

I do believe that marriage is a one to one function. After reading the Bible and seeing what it has to say about the topic of marriage I believe that marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman before God and a covenant should not be broken. I feel that it is a commitment that should be taken more seriously in America and the divorce rate is drastically high at over half of marriages failing. Also the impacts of divorces are usually nasty and cause break ups of many families and are the result of many of the social ills of America today.

Ethics Paper Gay Marriage

...What would happen if gay marriage were to be legalized across the country? Would a third World War break out? Would Various plagues erupt nationwide? Would schools begin teaching kids how to have gay sex? Would the terrorists win? Probably not; although, my intuition tells me that the “worst” thing that could possibly come from the legalization of gay marriage is, well, the marriage of gay couples. Now, I do not recall the legal union of two heterosexual strangers influencing an individuals life in our world today; why would it if these two individuals happened to be homosexual? When addressing the theories of ethics, cultural relativism states that cultures evolve in the way that species do (pp) . Over the past years, decades, generations, and centuries, our country has come and exceedingly long way in regards to what is considered morally right and wrong. Amongst many contentions within the longevity of our nation there were notorious ones such as: the ban of interracial marriages, prohibition era, the advertising of cigarette smoking, and even the fact that years ago it was morally incorrect for a married couple to sleep in the same bed. Interracial marriages were viewed almost identically to how gay marriage is viewed today: iniquitous and abominate. When the ban was lifted in 1967 it progressively became okay for interracial couples to get married, and now at least a fourth of Americas population is biracial. When the prohibition era ended, the selling, manufacturing...

Arranged Marriage Research Paper

...Arranged Marriage to Love Marriage In the United States, where a multitude of cultures and races live together, we are not accustomed to the idea of arranged marriages. We are blessed that we are given our own right to choose our own spouse to marry instead of being arranged upon or have no say in who we get to spend the rest of our lives with. True love has been drilled into our heads, giving us the idea that finding somebody special is nothing out of the ordinary. However there are still those who do not grow up with the same ideas or values in choosing their own loved one. India’s culture has since forever been based off of religion and the honors of family. From those comes an important aspect of the Indian culture that is the idea of an arranged marriage. An arranged marriage is when, usually the parents or father, of both sides of the family meet with potential suitors to be wed to each other without any true saying coming from mainly the woman herself. Basically the man’s family advertises his achievements, wealth, and well being to other families, and if a family seeking for a husband for their daughter agrees or likes these qualities, a meeting is set between the two families. After the one meeting goes well, they set up a wedding date for the two to become married. The bride and groom have not even spent a full day with each other and it is decided that they should become married. The biggest misunderstanding most of us have about arranged marriages is the fact...

...grant same-sex couples the same rights which are enjoyed by opposite-sex marriages. Same-sex unions have been recognized since 2004 and since 2011 the status of ‘stable union’ which allows for adoption, welfare benefits, pension, taxes, immigration, etc. is available to them. On May 14, 2013 there was a sweeping Federal Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in the entire country. According to the Brazilian Census of 2010 (IBGE) Brazil had 60,002 same-sex couples in the same home and strict anti-discrimination laws which ensure that no one will be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation have been in place since 2003. In Japan same-sex marriage is not legal although homosexuals and homosexual relationships are widely accepted. A poll conducted last year found that 24% of respondents were in favor of same sex marriage and an additional 27% supported another form of recognition for same-sex couples. However, the Japanese constitution refers to both sexes and husband and wife in their laws regarding marriage, thus only making provisions for opposite-sex couples. Since May of 2009 Japan allows citizens to marry same-sex foreign partners in countries where same-sex marriages are legal. Prior to that time a document which is required by foreign countries which states that a person is single and old enough to marry was not issued. In the last few years there have been symbolic marriage ceremonies of same-sex couples which are not recognized by the government...

Anti Gay Marriage Research Paper

...Gay marriage, it’s been an “issue” for years. Centuries even. Most anti-gay arguments involve religion, or “morals”. Why should conservatives impose their beliefs, and deny someone the right of a homosexual marriage if that person may not even be religious. The most common anti-gay argument is “we have to protect the institution of marriage”. Though some heterosexual couples get married out of love, this isn’t the case for most. Some women and men are “gold diggers”, meaning they got married to an older figure that has lots of money, when they die; they inherit all of the wealth. In other countries people of a lower class try to move up classes with arranged marriages. Some people just marry for health insurance! These are examples of heterosexual...

...writing. In fact, the three universities that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am my own worst critic. Reason being, I am never...
