A long time tradition, summer vacation has always been a cherished time for students of all ages. However, some people believe that summer vacation is detrimental for students. Matthew Yglesias, in his article “Summer Vacation Is Awful for Poor Kids,” uses logos to effectively support his claim that summer vacation is an atrocious idea. In the second paragraph, Yglesias uses an analogy to show the preposterousness of discontinuing other public services, and that shutting down schools for the summer also holds consequences. Later, in the fourth paragraph of the article, Yglesias uses statistics that state the cost of Camp Winnebago in order to show that many summer activities are too expensive for financially challenged families.
