Since my apprenticeship in the family machine shop, my career has been building toward the day when I can introduce a new production business model. When I joined The Analytical Sciences Corporation after leaving the college, I was amazed to discover that my colleagues spent their days manually processing hundreds of changes to our central database. Realizing there had to be a better way, I taught myself programming and automated my job so it only took 3 hours to complete. My natural aptitude for consulting became apparent to me then, but I realized I needed a solid foundation in computer science to succeed. While earning that second degree I began my first true consulting experience as an eCommerce software engineer for Global Image.

I was now beginning to dream of my own consulting firm some day, so I joined Molen Consulting to see how firms (client and consulting) are run. While working on large-scale engagements at Boeing Astronautics and Verizon Communications, I developed a solid foundation in the methodology of large consulting projects. After 22 exhilarating months, I decided to join Tennant Technology Group because I knew I would need an MBA to start my own firm and gaining more experience in the business side of consulting would strengthen my experience. Just as I hoped, the jump to Tennant, a four-person start-up, has given me substantial influence over the company’s evolution and much exposure to the operational challenges of running a company.

Now that I have experienced many different sides of consulting, I am ready to take the next step toward starting my own consulting firm: earning my Isenberg

Resume

...Tips on résumés and cover letters Résumés Successful résumés serve only one function: to get you an interview. Creating a résumé that accomplishes this requires a lot of thought. Your résumé is an introduction to us or to any potential employer; make sure it presents you in the best possible light. If you don't have prior financial work experience, think of other ways you can demonstrate your aptitude: other jobs or experiences that required leadership and quantitative ability, or roles in which you worked with your company's senior clients. A few tips: • Almost without exception, your résumé should be no longer than one page. • Prioritize the points you want to get across, such as summer internships and other quantitative work experience, and structure your résumé to highlight skills that are most relevant to the position for which you are applying. • Proofread. Typos tell us that either you're careless, or not that interested in a job with J.P. Morgan. • Keep your statements concise and quantify where possible. • Make sure you can support and talk intelligently about everything on your résumé and how it will contribute to your success. • For PhD’s, emphasize your research, coursework and teaching experience in finance, economics, quantitative modeling, engineering and mathematics. • Additionally, be sure you can support and talk intelligently about everything on your Curricula Vitae (CV), including how your previous work and research will...

Online Negotiations

...Job Offer Negotiation: Martin Smith and Orange Craters (OC) Introduction The scenario for this simulation is a negotiation over a job offer that has been extended by a technology company to an MBA student nearing graduation. The background information introduces the principals involved, recaps their prior relationship, and presents detailed summary of the terms of the offer that the firm has extended to the student. For the negotiation simulation, you will be assigned to assume the role of either the student or a representative of the hiring company. The role-play information that your instructor will then provide gives details about the specific interests and objectives of the party to which you are assigned. In many ways, negotiations about job offers are just like any other negotiation: Parties try to pursue their own interests while keeping an eye on relationship concerns and seeking areas of common ground that might allow them to bridge compatible interests. In other ways, however, job offer negotiations may be perceived as distinctive because of the stakes involved: For the job seeker, they involve the negotiation of one’s personal circumstances, often with an opponent who is someone you will have to “live with” on a day-to-day basis for what could be a long time to come. As you read your role information and prepare for the encounter, think about how the pursuit of your goals-whether you are in the role of the hiring firm or the job-seeking student-may or should be...

Marketing Plan

...Online MBA program Marketing Plan Online education has been the fastest growing segment of higher education. Because it is so unlike traditional classroom-based instructions, many questions have been raised as to the quality of the education offered in the online modality (Carrol & Burke, 2010). After an extensive survey of the literature, the U.S Department of Education issued a report concluding that the online or hybrid modalities are more effective then face-to-face instructions (Carrol & Burke, 2010). According to BusinessWeek, online MBA programs have surged in popularity over the past decade (Anonymous, 2010). With the increasing demands of the workplace, tighter schedules and the need for advanced degrees, many students are now relying on online programs to complete their MBAs. These programs are fueled by the increased capabilities of technology that allow students to successfully learn and complete their degrees outside of the traditional classroom environment (Anonymous, 2010). Understanding how online degree programs work, finding the right program, and recognizing the advantages and disadvantages of pursing a degree online are important tasks for every student to complete before enrolling in the program. This marketing plan overlooks these advantages and disadvantages of the online program over the on site MBA programs. I will focus on the online program as a whole, and give examples of successful online programs. Company Overview “Nine...
