Characterize the four I’s - 1. Obesity in the Workplace in 1997 the U.S. court of Appeals ruled that “obesity, except in special cases where the obesity relates to psychological disorder.
2. Animal Welfare 2000 McDonald’s was targeted by animal activist to adopt new standards for cattle in feedlots.
3. 2003 Mad Cow Disease –and Antibiotics and Growth Hormones –human health concerns had been raised about the possible development of antibiotics resistance in humans as result of the use of antibiotics for both humans and veterinary medicine.
4. Treatment of Workers. In 1990’s the treatment of workers in overseas supplier’s factories, McDonald’s developed a Code of conduct for suppliers. The code covered employment practices pertaining to the use of prison and forced labor.
What is the time frame of each issue? The time frame stem from 1997, 2000, 2003 and the 1990’s.
Which issues should have the highest priority? I believe that the treatment in the workplace should have the highest priority. Because of the child labor, working hours, compensation and discrimination practices.
What overall strategy should McDonald’s adopt dealing with these nonmarket issues?
Calorie intake had increased about 10 percent, and the strenuousness of work had decreased. Moreover, technological change had substantially reduced the relative cost of food, leading people to eat more while Mc Donald’s contribution on the obesity crises, and related epidemics of heart disease and diabetes. The cheeseburger bill strips the public to seek redress against food manufacturer for their Mc Donald’s should practice fair labor, environmental, and animal welfare practices throughout their corporation because they have a bigger reasonability to their consumers.
