There is an abundance of different cultures around the world and with every culture comes a variety of religions. Ninan Smart states in her book The Religious Experience, “To understand human history and human life it is necessary to understand religion, therefore, one must understand other nations' ideologies and faiths in order to grasp the meaning of life as seen from perspectives often very different from our own” (p. 1). People all over the world try to search for an answer to life’s biggest question, “What is the meaning of life?”. Therefore, many people tend to turn towards religion for guidance. Although the answers to life’s fundamental questions are different from religion to religion, the answers still provide purpose, meaning, and hope. There has to be a reason for “why I am here?” or for allowing us to be aware of a purposeful life “who am I?” Nothing in life is utterly pointless and …show more content…
Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, unlike Hinduism and Buddhism, are all monotheist faiths that worship one God, the Father of the universe. Yet, these religions have different viewpoints on the nature of God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Book, and creation, therefore, each one of these religions have different depictions on the meaning of life and the reason we exist. Christianity answers the questions by stating that I am a child of God who exists to bring glory and honor to God. Our culture solely considers that I am the result of evolutionary random processes, but according to the Bible I am a child of God who will forever be loved. Beginning with creation in Genesis, God created human beings in his own image, therefore, our purpose is to love and to seek others for His glory. Christianity centers on the life of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, child of God, who brought the kingdom of God to Earth.
