Case statement
Twenty-three years have passed since NAMI Metro Suburban opened its doors to help families and adults living with mental illness. The impact on the community has strengthened since it’s humble beginnings in 1993 expanding the programs reach into 5 neighboring suburban communities. Adults with mental illness embark on the road to recovery after diagnosis or a mental health crisis. Unfortunately, many adults will be hospitalized or incarcerated due to a mental health crisis. NAMI Metro Suburban first began to address this issue by training adults who are balanced in their recovery to mentor and share resources with hospital patients in an effort to help their road to recovery be a lasting one.

Family members are our greatest advocates and may consider leading these events to increase community conversations. Coffee shop conversations could also be used to incorporate the deaf community as they hold monthly deaf coffee chats at local cafes around Illinois. Other events geared to engaging underrepresented populations are needed. NAMI Metro Suburban does not have any staff members or consistent community leaders who speak Spanish. This limits access to resources and services to a large portion of the population.
Basic budget
This budget is an expected revenue budget. The goal for this budget is $290,805. The computations for this budget reflect a combination of what was garnished in the last audit and predictions for new grants requested. Items under Support directly reflect the previous year’s audit. Government Grants are static until their next filing period. Income under Foundation Grants and Fundraising Events are subject to change depending on amounts rewarded and actual revenue received from events.
