Messi vs Ronaldo
Football has produced some of the most iconic and legendary sporting personalities. However, in the present era there is a question that every football fan argues on. “Who is better, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?”
Messi and Ronaldo are two of the most gifted and skillful footballers on the planet. The former is an Argentinian, who plays for his national team and Spanish club, FC Barcelona (Brach). The latter is a Portuguese, who plays for his national team and another Spanish club, Real Madrid C.F (Mitra). Ronaldo used to play in England for Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid. At that time the two weren’t compared to each other much. Messi was regarded as a huge young prospect who had a lot of potential to become a super star in the future, coming from Barca’s youth academy “La Masia” (Levinsky), while Ronaldo was an already established star in an amazing Man United squad, winning the prestigious Ballon D’ Or award in 2008, which is an award that recognizes a player as the best in the world for that particular year. It was the year 2009 that sparked the rivalry between the two when a Messi inspired Barcelona team defeated Ronaldo’s Man United team 2-0 in the final of the Champions League, the largest club competition in the world. It was that year, Ronaldo moved to the capital of Spain; Madrid to join Real Madrid, Barcelona’s arch rivals. Later that year Messi won the Ballon D’ or and announced himself on the big stage as the world’s current best player (The Telegraph). Two of the best players, playing for two-world class teams, in the same league and were guaranteed to face each other at least two times a season. This was a start of an era and a rivalry.
