The Romans Road
The Romans Road is an evangelistic “Intellectual” method that’s simple and direct in sharing the gospel; utilizing a systematic approach, that formalizes a plan; utilizing Bible verse that’s organized in an outline making it easy to teach those who is in need of salvation, why we need salvation, how God provides salvation, how man can respond to salvation, and the result of man’s response to salvation. Romans Road is a pathway that we can walk towards our salvation. The first path states that “as it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). “For all have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). But “God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). “That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God had raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9). For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). When we submit ourselves to God and He forgives us for our sins, or relationship with man ends; because were no longer who we use to be. We’ve been reborn as a new creature in Christ; a newly adopted child that’s righteous in the eyes of God (Romans 5:1, 8:1 and 38-39. [1]
The advantage of this method is that people who are non-believers are exposed to the word of God. They get an understanding of scripture instead of man’s logic; which will allow them to understand how God see us when it comes to sin. This method is effective for anyone who trusts the bible and knows it to be God’s word.
However, the disadvantage to this method starts when a non-believer isn’t willing to accept

...Methods of Evangelism Paper Part ONE - Evangelistic Method #1 The Four Spiritual Laws is an intellectual method of evangelism, which, as it’s title suggests, identifies four spiritual laws that direct an individual’s relationship with God. It was created by Dr. Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, in 1952. The four laws, as sited on CampusCrusade.com, are: (1) God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life. (2) Man is sinful and separated from God. Therefore, he cannot know and experience God’s love and plan for his life. (3) Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s sin. Through Him you can know and experience God’s love and plan for your life. (4) We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know and experience God’s love and plan for our lives. An advantage of this method is that it begins with positive note, “God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life,” which may cause non-Christians to be more receptive to the message. Due to the fall and sin, mankind is at variance with God (Ephesians 2:13-16) and there may be a tendency to reject a message concerning God without ever hearing the message. However, starting with such a positive introduction may cause an individual to “lower his guards” so he can hear the Gospel. Another advantage of this approach is that it can be easily communicated in print form and makes for a useful tract, especially considering the positive opening law. One disadvantage...

...Evangelistic Method #1 The Romans Road to Salvation is my intellectual method in sharing the good news with people. What this method is, is a series of verses from the book of Romans, arranged in a clear and direct orders that is easy to share with others. There are several different orders the scriptures can be arranged in order to share God’s grace, however the end results are the same. 1. Everyone needs salvation because we have sinned. Romans 3:10-12, and 23. 2. The consaquence of sin is death. Romans 6:23. 3. Jesus died for our sins and paid the price for our death. Romans 5:8. 4. We receive salvation and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9-10, and 13 5. Salvation through Jesus brings us into a relationship with God. Romans 5:1, Romans 8:1, Romans 8:38-39. There are several advantages in using this method. The person witnessing can easily remember the key verses in Romans in return makes it a great tool for new Christians. Instead of going through several chapters in the Bible, you can stay in one book. This may make it easier for some Christians while witnessing so that they are not distracted by having to go to several different books of the Bible and speak at the same time. There may be several disadvantages as well. If you only study this one method and not the rest of the Bible, you may not be able to answer questions that the person you are witnessing to, or group. If you go from scripture to scripture in Romans...

Method of Evangelism

...Ronald Hammer EVAN 101-B19 October 5, 2011 “Methods of Evangelism Paper” Part ONE - Evangelistic Method #1 - The “Intellectual Method” that I have chosen is the Roman road. The Roman Road method is a very simple method that utilizes seven verses of salvation taken from the book of Romans in the New Testament. While many people believe they will go to heaven because they have done charity work, been baptized as a child, attended church, or treated others fairly, the Bible declares that none of us can live up to God’s standards of righteousness. Therefore, we need a road to God that doesn’t rely on anything we do, but rather, relies on the gift of His grace alone. The bible verses that are utilized are Romans 1:20-21 “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.” Roman 2:23 “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” Romans 5:8 “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 10:9-10 “If you confess...

...Methods of Evangelism Mark Plemmons EVAN 101 D05 Liberty University Abstract Discussion of three Methods of Evangelism their effectiveness and possible shortcomings and which method would be suitable for the author to use. The intellectual method of the Four Spiritual Laws, the Relational method of Lifestyle Evangelism and lastly and lastly the Confrontational method of Evangelism explosion will be discussed in this paper. Methods of Evangelism Part ONE-Evangelistic Method #1 Four Spiritual Laws The Four Spiritual Laws: Law One, God Loves you and offers a wonderful plan for our lives. This is the starting point of using this evangelistic method. Using John 3:16 to demonstrate God’s love for us followed up with John 10:10 to show God’s plan for his love that Jesus came to give us life free from sin and a relationship with God. Law Two, People are sinful and separated from God and we cannot know or experience his love and plans for our lives. Using Romans 3:23 we show that all have sinned and fall short of God’s Glory. Romans 6:23 will show how we are separated from God. Typically in a tract you would see this illustrated by a cliff separated by gulf too large for us to cross with another cliff on the other side. One side represents us and the other side represents God. Law Three, Jesus is the only way to reach God. Through his death on the cross he has bridged the gulf that separates us from God. 1Peter 3:18 and Acts 1:3 demonstrate what Christ did for...

Methods of Evangelism

...Methods of Evangelism Nathalie Graham Liberty University Online The Romans Road Summary of Method – The Romans Road is an “intellectual” plan using a collection of verses from the New Testament book of Romans to explain God’s gift of salvation. When these verses are arranged in order they offer a systematic presentation of the plan of salvation (What is Roman’s Road?) Through the presentation of these verses one learns that we are all sinners (Romans 3:10, 23), that the wages of sin are death (Romans 6:23), that Jesus paid for our sins on the cross (Romans5:8), that salvation comes through faith, by confessing with our mouths and believing in our hearts that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9,10), and the need to call on the Lord for salvation (Romans 10:13) (What Is Roman’s Road?). The sharing of these scriptures opens the door for one to accept salvation. Advantages of Using This Method – There are several advantages to using this method of evangelism. First, for those that are new to witnessing to others the Roman’s Road offers a solid Biblical plan to winning souls. This method is laid out so that even children and the newest Christian would be able to share Christ with others using the scriptures. Secondly, the plan exposes the non-believer to the scriptures. Thirdly, this method is effective in reaching those that accept that the Bible is the Word of God and are willing to accept its teachings. Disadvantages of Using This Method – The Romans Road method of evangelism...

...EVAN 101 13 Oct 2013 Methods of Evangelism Part ONE – Evangelistic Method #1 Of the two intellectual methods of evangelism that was studied this week the Four Spiritual Laws will be the one that will be discussed in this writing. The Four Spiritual Laws consist of the follows: 1. God loves you: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life," (John 3:16). 2. Man is sinful and separated from God. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (Rom. 3:23); "For the wages of sin is death," (Rom. 6:23); "But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God," (Isaiah 59:2). 3. Jesus Christ is God's only provision for man's sin. "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me" (John 14:6); "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us," (Rom. 5:8). 4. We must individually receive Jesus as Savior and Lord. "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name," (John 1:12); "if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved," (Rom. 10:9); "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God," (Eph. 2:8). Method of Evangelism

...Methods of Evangelism Paper PART ONE - Evangelistic Method #1 The first evangelistic method I chose to write about is the Romans road (Wheeler, 2000).   The Romans road is a simple way of walking a person down a road to salvation.   According to Wheeler (2000), this method uses verses in Romans to show a lost person why they need a savior.   Romans 3:23 (New International Version) tells them that they are not alone in their sin; we have all sinned.   Romans 6:23 tells us that the penalty for sin is death but God has given us a gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Then in Romans 5:8 we are told how much God loves us despite our sinful nature. We then use Romans 10:9, 13 to tell the unbeliever how s/he can become a child of Christ. Then we ask him/her if they would like to make that choice now, regardless of whether they asked Christ into their lives or not.   The next passages are Romans 5:1; 8:1; 8:38-39.   In these next passages of scripture we discuss exactly what the eternal implications of a choice to live for Christ mean.   The advantage of the Romans road is that it is pretty cut and dry evangelism. If you have someone who is willing to sit and listen to what you have to say or even read with you, it would be awesome.   This method in my opinion works well with people who have already been prepared.   The disadvantage to this method is that it’s hard to just walk up to someone and start down the Romans road.   You need someone who’s willing to have that conversation...

How to Mobilize Your Church to Evangelize

...the earth and more than a third state they are spiritual but not religious. One in five state that they pray every day.” Knowing this information can prompt two different reactions. One could be that we allow this knowledge to intimidate the church and continue to cripple our efforts to reach these unreached people. The other option is to allow this information to act as a challenge to the church and the believers that congregate under the common thread of Jesus Christ and allow these numbers to propel the church to re-evaluate the evangelistic status quo; go back to the biblical basic of the early church and come up with a new game plan to win these souls for Christ. This paper will discuss how to mobilize the church to evangelize. It will define evangelism and look to the biblical basis for evangelism providing a new lifestyle of the modern day church. It will discuss the importance of intercessory prayer, and the vitality of a bold vision. It will look into the Pastors role in the churches effectiveness to...

Witnessing

...Witnessing Paper Edwin Alexander Liberty University Online What method of evangelism did you use and how did you start the conversation? I chose as Mister Man as my person to witness to for several reasons. First, he is the offspring of a preacher’s kid and the grandchild of a Baptist minister. I know that he was brought up in the church and that he has been exposed to the gospel; however, has not chosen at this time to accept Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Today’s conversation started the same as many that we have had in the past. I inquired about his family and how everyone was doing. I then asked him how he was doing and we talked a bit about what was going on with him since he finished his bachelor’s degree in December. He let me know that he was currently pursuing his master’s degree in public relations and that he was doing pretty good as a struggling college student. I asked him if he had been attending church since returning home from school to which he responded, “not really”. I then asked Mister Man, “If you died today, would you go to heaven or hell?” My intent was to use the Romans’s Road method of evangelism; however, after starting the conversation, I realized that this method probably would not be very beneficial for Mister Man. He was already familiar with the scripture and using this structured method for him felt forced and phony. I decided to try conversational evangelism which is conversation for the purpose of sharing the gospel. This...

The Bible Knowledge Commentary

...Evangelism in the Early Church [Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, November 14, 1985] by Joel L. Pless The primary mission of the Christian Church is to preach the gospel to all nations, it is to win souls for Christ. The fact that there are approximately one billion at least nominal Christians in the world indicates that Christ’s Great Commission has been at least partially carried out. This monograph will research how and by whom was the Great Commission enacted in the “early days” of the Christian church, during its first four centuries (100-500 A.D.) This research paper will not contribute creatively to the study of theology or methods of evangelism, but it will rather compile from a representative bibliography facts concerning evangelism in the early Church. Granted, research on this topic has been undertaken before by individuals with far greater academic credentials than the writer of these lines. But this monograph will attempt to condense the vast amount of material written on this topic into a monograph on evangelism in the early Church which is long enough to adequately cover the subject but still short enough to be interesting. This essay will approach the topic by asking the basic questions, why?, what?, who?, to whom?, and how?( William C. Weinrich, “Evangelism in the Early Church,” in Concordia Theological Quarterly, vol. XLV, (January-April 1981), pp. 61-74.) When possible, primary sources from the early Church fathers will be quoted in translation. The ultimate...

Muscular Christianity

...Past to Present: The Influence of “Muscular Christianity” Doris N. Jamerson Liberty University Abstract This paper will explore the beginnings of Muscular Christianity and its influence on the youth population. I examined James A. Mathisen’s (1990) sociological article about Gil Dodds establishing Muscular Christianity as a norm in culture. Muscular Christianity has been through different stages during the late 1700s through 1900s. Each stage was influenced by very important men who helped contribute fundamentalist idealisms in their time. His case study analyzed the involvements of Thomas Arnold, Charles Kingsley, Thomas Hughes, Charles Studd, Bud Schaeffer and Gil Dodds. Each of these men had different interpretations of muscular Christianity based off of their backgrounds. Mathisen compared each interpretation and created a timeline of contributions to the rise of modern day religious sport culture. Past to Present: The Influence of “Muscular Christianity” Muscular Christianity is a religious connection of Christianity to physical well-being. Many organizations today are influenced by this modern day form of Christianity. The YMCA an organization we are all familiar with is a prime example of combining religious values with healthy living. The YMCA’s mission incorporates values such as honesty, responsibility, and caring. They focus on youth development and physical health. Youth ministries are included in their programs for youth. The YMCA is an organization...

For the last six months or so I have been engaging in servant evangelism with a young lady that is currently incarcerated. I volunteer as a Community Volunteer Sponsor at a minimum security prison in Raleigh, North Carolina. In this capacity, I am granted the privilege of escorting inmates that have earned certain privileges within the North Carolina Department of Correction on what is referred to as Community Volunteer Passes. The inmate is allowed to leave the prison for up to six hours with an approved sponsor and go out into the community to pre-approved locations. For months now, I have been building a relationship with this young lady. I have been putting the “Affirmation” portion of the effective measure of evangelism we have learned referred to as ‘Proclamation and Affirmation ‘into effect. By allowing this individual to see me as a Christian serving her, she has seen that grace is extended with no strings attached. I have asked nothing in return from her and have fostered a loving and trusting relationship based on the love of God with her.
