...public mass transport system. The existing Mumbai Suburban Railway carries over 7 million passengers per day,[18] and is supplemented by theBrihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus system, which provides feeder services to station-going passengers to allow them to complete their journeys. However, due to the city's geographical constraints and rapid population growth, road and rail infrastructure development has not been able to keep pace with growing demand over the last 4-5 decades.[19] Moreover, the Mumbai Suburban Railway, though extensive, is not built to rapid transit specifications. The main objective of the Mumbai Metro is to provide mass rapid transit services to people within an approach distance of between 1 and 2 kilometres, and to serve the areas not connected by the existing Suburban Rail network. Delhi Metro

...transport in the capital, Delhi Metro is not a new or even recent idea for Indians. In fact, the idea was brought into consideration about some fifty years back, but the bureaucratic red-Taoism made it to take such a long period to come into reality. However, on December 26, 2002, the people of Delhi got the first ride in this much-awaited dream train. Delhi Metro’s first phase has been completed. And, with this, the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) can claim to provide transport to two million passengers every day with a train at every third minute. In its first phase, the Delhi Metro is operational between Sahara and Ties Hazard stations with four other stations in between. The Metro is on, and the people are happy with the service it is rendering. After all, now they have an alternate to the suffocating packed blue line buses and the inadequate service of the DTC – run CNG buses. With the Metro option, the passengers are not only saved from the inconvenience of the road transport, but they also experience a world class service at very affordable fares. It is really pleasing to note that a passenger can reach from Ties Hazard to Sahara in just fourteen minutes by spending as much money as he would spend through a bus. Thus, while it saves the passengers from the trouble of road transport and provides a much reliable service to reach places in time, it does not bother the commuter of any extra expenditure. Another outstanding feature the metro is that it is particularly...

...Athens Metro can be certainly considered as a Mega-Project. It is a high cost infrastructure project, it took many years to develop and build, it involved many public and private stakeholders and it changed the life of many Athenians and the public transportation network of Athens. Furthermore, around some metro stations the urban weave infrastructure transformed from its previous condition Public transportation in Athens Athens is the capital of Greece and the largest city in the country. According to preliminary results of the 2011 census, its population is 3,737,550; however it is believed that more than 4 million people live in the Greek capital. As in every large city, the people of Athens use a wide public transportation network for their daily activities. The company responsible for the public transportation network is OASA S.A. and is exclusively owned by the Greek State. This company is divided into two subsidiary groups depending on the mode of transport (road and rail). On one hand there is OSY S.A., the company responsible for the road transportation means; and on the other hand, STASY S.A. is the company responsible for the rail transportation including Athens Metro. Calcutta's Metro

...Calcutta’s Metro The major problem facing Project Managers is providing a clear and concise vision of the project details, who’s responsible for what and the initial budget. Without this the project has little or no chance to succeed. With a proper scope statement a project has the foundation for success. In the case of Calcutta’s Metro I believe the major problem was that the Project Manager (PM) didn’t effectively manage the project scope. A project scope according to Pinto is “everything about a project – work content as well as expected outcomes” . Since an effective project scope was not developed the project had multiple problems such as funding, construction plan, site ownership, pressure for stakeholders, and traffic flow just to name a few. The majority of the short term problems like traffic flow and pressure from stakeholders led to the long term problem of been over budget and time. Project Scope Management contains the following; conceptual development, scope statement, work authorization, scope reporting, control systems, and project closeout . Any one of these elements if properly managed and executed would have help with the success of the project. During the conceptual development the project team would have used brainstorming events that would have identified any problems to considered and plan for. With a scope statement the project team would have had a clean picture of what the project was, initial budget and responsibilities. The PM could have...

Grand Metro

...The pound-based WACC for Grand Met is 12.81%, while its dollar-based WACC is 11.01% 1.748 (1.027/1.043) = 1.721185  Spot rate, expected exchange rate. This shows that the dollar is appreciating in relation to the pound. This is expected as inflation is expected to be higher in the UK. This also explains the differences in the WACC between the two countries. In order to preclude arbitrage opportunities and account for difference in inflation rates, pound-based WACC has to be higher than the dollar-based WACC. 3. As is mentioned in the case, in the footnotes on page 6, the betas for the US and UK markets are mirrored in the betas for Grand Met in the two countries. The market volatility in the US is 4% lower than the market volatility in the UK. The difference in standard deviation of returns is factored into the country’s betas, which in turn is factored into the Grand Met beta calculations. In addition to that, we are told that there is perfect correlation between the two markets, which means they move together. The difference in the betas, then, reflects the way investors approach risks: it seems that the UK investors are more risk averse than the US investors. Additionally, we think that the differences in risk free rates in the two countries contribute to the different betas and different perceptions of risk between the US and UK investors. While the risk free rate in the US is 7.83%, the risk free rate in the UK is 9.6%. Because investors receive a higher...
