Using these concepts has helped individuals manage effectively, as times change strategies in management need to change so these concepts need to be revisited into their relevancy in today’s world. Since these four functions have been first introduced these four concepts have been redefined. Planning, organizing, leading, and controlling have been changed to a more definitive manner. We will discuss in this paper how Bateman & Snell (2009) address a more definitive approach, and also how California Carpets used or did not use these functions. Planning Planning can be described by Bateman & Snell (2009) as “The management function of systematically making decisions about the goals and activities that an individual, a group, a work unit, or the overall organization will pursue.” Determining how to use the available resources to achieve a company’s business model, analyzing situations, preparing for what the future might bring, deciding on objectives, deciding what activities need to be performed, are normally the activities of the planning portion of management. There are more activities in planning in today’s world that needs to be considered than the activities that were described. Bateman & Snell (2009) state that planning is now “delivering strategic...

...Functions of Management Paper Billy Reese Mgmt/330 March 8, 2010 Kelly Wagner Functions of Management There are four functions of management that need to be implemented in order for any organization and its management team to be successful. The four functions are, planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. All four functions are vital to running a smooth corporation or business. The first function is Planning. Planning is an ongoing process that never stops. There are always incidents that will arise in which objectives may have to be revisited and changed. This function is also called delivering strategic value. Value is another word for money. A company has to meet its users needs. The better the service, the better the value or in other words, the more money you make. The second function of management is getting organized. Management must organize and put into practice the objectives and goals that were planned in the first function. This function will “assemble and coordinate the human, financial, physical, informational and other resources needed to achieve goals” (Bateman, 2009 pg.12). This organizing function is also known as building a dynamic organization. In building this dynamic organization, people will be considered the most valuable resource and only the brightest and best qualified people will be selected to work. Being organized will help the company be flexible and ready to adapt to any outside threat and the customers...

Coca Cola

...The Coca Cola Company- Midterm MGMT 330- Principles of Leadership and Management The soft drink Coca Cola as we know today was created by a pharmacist by the name of John Pemberton. One day while he was experimenting with a new recipe, he created a syrup, which he believed was tasteful. This syrup was taken to Jacobs Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia, May 8, 1886. Pemberton added the syrup to carbonated water because at the time it was believed to help cure health issues. This new drink became popular that Pemberton was able to sell nine drinks a day at 5 cents per glass. From that point on, the greatest refreshment of all times was invented. Dr. Pemberton’s accountant helped create name and logo what is known today. In 1888, the secret formula was sold to a business man by the name of Asa Candler. He soon began to produce, distribute, and advertise Coca Cola. For many years the soft drink was only served in soda fountains, until two business men sold the idea to Chandler to sell Cola in glass bottles. This way everyone would be able to enjoy it not only at the parlors but in their homes as well. A few years later the design of the contour bottle was produced in order to authenticate the beverage from its competitors and imitators. At the start of the 21st century, The Coca Cola Company began expanding their company, distributing their soft drinks to different countries. Not only does the company produce soft drinks, it also produces: bottled water, children’s...
