Organizations today often encourage change to better the work environment. However, these changes often cause unwanted results, which were not expected. This leads us to observe organizational behavior in hopes of minimizing unwanted and/or negative changes within an organization. Organizational behavior, organizational culture, diversity, communication, is all factors within an organization. These requisites must first be defined in order to create a truly more efficient work environment. My job at Hedrick Elementary School ensures the growth and success by establishing an effective guide, which includes all of the factors of organizational behavior.
Organizational culture, is the organization's past and current assumptions, experiences, philosophy, and values that hold it together, and is expressed in its self-image, interactions with the outside world, and future expectations. It is based on shared attitudes, beliefs, customs, express or implied contracts, and written and unwritten rules or policies that the organization develops over time and that have worked well enough to be considered valid. Furthermore, called corporate culture, it manifests in the ways the organization conducts its business, treats its employees, customers, and the wider community, the extent to which autonomy and freedom is allowed in decision making, developing new ideas, and personal expression, how power and information flow through its hierarchy, and the strength of employee commitment towards shared objectives.

Organizational Behavior is the key aspect to preserve and improve interaction levels amongst employees in the company. Additional attributes like leadership, openness to discuss problems, challenge-initiative are all tied in to this base concept of Organizational Behavior to help the business achieve its strategic and in some cases business objectives

Critical Thinking: Mgt 350

...Critical Thinking University Of Phoenix Mgt 350 March 25, 2008 Critical Thinking Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. In its exemplary form, it is based on universal intellectual values that transcend subject matter divisions: clarity, accuracy, precision, consistency, relevance, sound evidence, good reasons, depth, breadth, and fairness. It entails the examination of those structures or elements of thought implicit in all reasoning: purpose, problem, or question-at-issue, assumptions, concepts, empirical grounding; reasoning leading to conclusions, implications and consequences, objections from alternative viewpoints, and frame of reference. Critical thinking in being responsive to variable subject matter, issues, and purposes is incorporated in a family of interwoven modes of thinking, among them: scientific thinking, mathematical thinking, historical thinking, anthropological thinking, economic thinking, moral thinking, and philosophical thinking. I work for a company that manages properties (Timeshare Industry), on the first week of my employment; I was asked to evaluate the goal of improving the property’s competitiveness in the marketplace...

...University of Phoenix Critical Thinking: Strategies in Decision Making MGT/350 Critical Thinking Critical thinking is a way to process information that can be developed by people to gain a better sense of their own position in relation to their environment and the actions of those around them. It can be used to either clarify or cloud the information being processed depending on the level of development of the critical thinking skills. It can be said that everyone uses critical thinking but the degree which it is used will vary depending on the individual. A comparison between weak sense thinkers who do not have well developed critical thinking skills and fair minded thinkers that do illustrates this point. A weak sense thinker will ignore, rationalize, manipulate and sometimes lie to establish that their view is the correct one. This is because the individual does not utilize all of the tools to develop a more refined ability to process information and as a result they will not consider all of the viewpoints, questions and subsequent challenges that will arise. This is exemplified by radio talk show hosts who use rhetoric and in some cases insults and sheer volume to disparage and diminish their opponent’s views or politicians who will resort to cheating to win at any cost. These types of thinkers are also referred to as sophists. “Sophistry is the art of winning arguments regardless of whether there are problems in the thinking being used, regardless of whether relevant...

...The reputation of a company is intangible but very valuable. Having a good or bad reputation will affect how consumers feel about a company or product, as well as stakeholders. Some of the benefits of a superior corporate reputation are that customers will prefer to do business with that company when other companies’ products and services are available at a comparable cost and quality; the company can also charge a premium for products and services; and stakeholder support for the company in times of controversy. Good reputation also adds to the company’s value in the financial marketplace. (Management, 2013) In 1999, poor decisions and mismanagement cast a shadow over Coca-Cola. “Following the hospitalization of dozens of Belgians, Coke admitted Tuesday that it had problems at two of its plants—one involving pesticide on the outside of cans the other sub-standard carbonation gas.” (Sathiah, 1999). Even though dozens had fallen ill after drinking Coke products, Coke claimed its products were still safe. Coke failed to act appropriately after hearing that many were getting ill after consuming Coke products. This lead for Belgium to ban all Coke soft drinks, this prompted Luxembourg, Netherlands, and France to also stop the sale of Coke soft drink. (Sathiah, 1999). Some of the strategic steps I would take to remedy the concerns that the company is faced with would be, is bring in new management. Mgt/350 Problem Formulation and Identification

...Problem Formulation and Identification Although problems are typically easy to spot, the formulation and identification of the problem, its effect on the organization, and potential resolutions are more complicated. It is important to understand that any problem presented may not be the actual problem that needs to be addressed. Often an identified problem is merely a symptom of a greater problem that requires a decision. However, the examination of smaller problems or symptoms can largely assist in determining the overarching issues that needs attention. The earliest example of a technique my organization is using is producing Pareto Charts. Pareto Analysis Pareto is a tool or technique that displays information identifying the causes or instances which fall outside of established performance standards. This is typically illustrated in a simple bar chart that provides an easy to read format showing the causes of failures and the number of times the failure was identified. This is organized by the greatest number of instances to the least thus establishing a priority for those problems that will have the greatest opportunity for improvements. The organization measures its performance over a period of time to identify a running monthly performance. This allows the opportunity to more efficiently focus a Pareto analysis where results are going to be more effective. The Problem The supply and logistics business primarily consists of electronic transactions in automated...

Mgt 350 Critical Thinking Application Paper

...Critical Thinking Application Paper Name MGT 350 Instructor Date Campus Critical Thinking Application Paper How do you think? How you think can be as important as what you think. When a person is faced with a problem, it is how a person thinks and acts on those thoughts that determine the outcome. To stay competitive organizations need to change or modify their methods of doing business as needs require. Everyday business professionals are presented with situations and problems, mundane and difficult, each requiring the person to use critical thinking. How that person analyses the situation can either benefit or hinder the organization. The decision making process is an important function of any business, critical thinking is the key to this process. What Is Critical Thinking?   “Critical thinking is the art of thinking about thinking while thinking in order to make thinking better. It involves three interwoven phases: it analyzes thinking, it evaluates thinking, and it improves thinking” (Paul & Elder, 2006, p. xvii). This tells us to think about the problem, analyze the problem, and solve the problem. To understand critical think a person must understand how to think.       Analysis allows the person to view a problem from different points of views, to study it and question it. When analyzing a problem the person must try to set aside any preconceived bias and view the problem objectively. The analysis step of critical thinking is the beginning...

Emotional Thinking Style Mgt/350

...Emotional Thinking Style Emotional thinking will often involve very basic thought processes that are normally based on things that are already known, experiences, and events in life. How is critical thinking related to the emotional thinking style? Critical thinking enables each person to take active command of not only our thoughts, but our feelings, emotions, and desires. It is critical thinking which provides us with the mental tools needed to thoroughly understand how reasoning works, and how those tools can be used to take command of what we think, feel, desire, and do. Emotions are very important in everyday life and it drives each person to detailed attention, which in turn drives learning and memory. Emotions and instinct are part of human nature that is instilled in each and every person. Wen-Yu Chao (2006) states the following about emotional thinking “Emotions and feelings are not logical, but it doesn't mean they are bad. On the contrary, they are what make the world beautiful. Without them, we will lose music, paintings, sculptures, poems, and all wonderful creative work derived from the sensitive part of our mind. There is simply no way to argue without some sort of emotional bias. Emotions can be a great motivator for everything that happens in life. However, the emotional thinking style, unlike the logical thinking style, is often not based on a great deal of facts and it often requires very little thinking. The logical thinking style is usually...

...Kava is an island in the South Pacific. Even though the island is barraged by obstacles and harsh conditions, the community remains resilient. Sikorsky Aircraft wants to build a production facility on Kava with the goal of not only helping stakeholders and the organization, but also to provide aid to the suffering community. Placing a new facility for production in Kava gives the company the opportunity to reduce production costs and to improve the quality of life of the local residents, which will be done through profit allocation. To promote new businesses in the economy, the government of Kava puts forth incentives like tax breaks and licensing at low costs. Thus, now is the perfect time to bring this plan to fruition. Sikorsky Aircraft already is a player in the global market, and I assert that a Kav’ian subsidiary would be a smart investment. In recent years, Kava has experienced multiple natural disasters. As a result, the community has been ravaged and many families are now experiencing poverty. Sikorsky’s production facility there would give job opportunities to the local people: they could work in the low-level line production jobs that would help the production of the standard H-60 Black Hawk airframe. Part of the profits that would be earned thanks to the cut in labor costs would be dedicated to a revival for the local community. Sikorsky plans to make contributions to community centers, improved housing, disaster relief, activities, and the educational system. ...

...Cognitive thinking patterns are necessary for good choices. As a sub contractor of Auto Rescue, I face decisions on a daily basis that must make without speaking to a teammate. I use intuitive approach when making my decisions which involves the least amount of outsourcing and procrastination. To identify problems I use my intuitive skills to identify and form a plan for a desired result by altering the current event. The most used technique that I use in decision making and problem solving would have to be the strategic and analytical methods. Identifying the problem would be first in this process and then weighing the options and possible outcomes. When identifying problems, I take notes of the flaws from negative results and consequences of an issue. An example of this is when I have to constantly have to tell drivers the steps in going down from being on call 24/7. So therefore I used a simple reminder by making a flyer for them to go by with step by step instructions. I text and emailed everyone of the changes that I made to make it easier on them and also gave them a physical flyer for them to reference back to. I did contemplate possible outcomes and thought that possibly even the message I sent may not have been effective. Therefore I went around to all the drivers and physically showed them the steps in the process. This method for drivers going down has made it easier to keep track on who is accepting calls at the current time and also keeps up with everyone’s...
