Introduction
When it comes to planning it is and has always been important that time, effort and adequate research is done to properly execute a plan to take place within an organization. In Law Enforcement, this same rule applies. In this body of work, an outline of an approach to conduct research and interpret the situational analysis for the City of Miami is discussed as well as the determination of the main goals and objectives of the proposed communication plan, the target group of the plan, the proposal of the general communication strategies of the proposed plan and lastly, the first four main steps of the City of Miami police department’s strategic communication plan.

What this would provide is the information needed for improvement. Stakeholders (both internally and externally) along with members of the community will be not only invited to participate in the survey, but it would also provide the catalyst for interviews to be conducted with the participants to centralize and gain more insight into the issues the department faces. This also provides ideas and action steps as well. The current situation analyst on the department involves a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis, organizational history and reputational assessments.
• Strengths: Currently, the City of Miami Police Department has adequate budget for officers to service the residential neighborhoods. They also have properly functioning equipment, a modern facility as well as growing technological advances throughout the …show more content…
The four main steps are as follows:
• Surveys are completed: Surveys from both internal and external stakeholders as well as from the community are completed and process before interviews are conducted and any real change takes place. In doing so, the department will have a clear and concise idea of what needs to be addressed.
• Discussions with internal stakeholders: In order for changes to take place, it requires for every internal aspect of the department to be onboard with the changes. That also includes in the areas of the budget. Once surveys and interviews are done, the stakeholders need to come to an agreement in reference to the projected timeframe of the changes to take place, the discussion of potential partners that will team up with the department.
• Coalition: After discussions with internal stakeholders take place, it is important to reach out to partners who directly reflect the mission and values represented by the department. Coordination of what will be discussed and conveyed in the media will take place as well as ensuring current and new audiences in different demographics are
