Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, commonly known by his first name, Michelangelo, was a pivotal force in the Italian Renaissance. He was born on March 6, 1475 in Caprese Michelangelo, to a middle class family in the banking industry. Michelangelo was fascinated with observing painters at churches nearby, rather than focusing on tedious schoolwork. At age 13, he joined the Florentine painter’s workshop with the help of his father, Leonardo di Buonarrota Simoni.
