Most every human in the world will wash themselves on a regular basis, using shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and toothpaste. What most of the population doesn't know, is what chemicals are really in their personal hygienic products. In about 3,000 personal hygienic products contain little plastic beads, called Micro Beads. What are these Micro Beads?

Micro Beads are small plastic beads about the size of a pencil tip. They are commonly found in personal care products. These small plastic beads are so small that when humans wash their personal hygienic products down the drain, the Micro Beads go straight into the ocean. This is because most filtration plants do not have the equipment to filter out such small pieces of plastic. Once the plastic beads are in the ocean they become extremely toxic. Scientist say that billions of microbeads enter the ecosystem each day. People are starting to become more educated on the matter and solutions are starting to emerge.

There are many the laws being established throughout the world. In Maine a bill was passed in March of 2014. The bill will come into effect in beginning of the 2018 year. The the bill states no product with Micro Beads can be produced or sold in the state of Maine. Over the counter prescriptions will not be affected by the change. There are also other the solutions, such as a new kind of Microbeads called PHA. These beads are biodegradable because they are composed of plastic bacteria. There is also a strive to make filtration systems more updated. The problem is this will cost a lot of money. Another solution is for the population to know what to look for.
