...Long-Term Investment Decisions Tiffant Lewis Strayer University Dr. Xiaodong Wu ECO 550 March 9, 2014 Introduction One of the most important long term decisions for any business relates to investment. Investment is the purchase or creation of assets with the objective of making gains in the future. Typically investment involves using financial resources to purchase a machine/building or other asset, which will then yield returns to an organization over a period of time. Planning investments involves thinking about a range of issues that have a bearing on where you ultimately decide to put your money. These issues will vary according to your particular age, circumstances and attitude to risk, and thinking about them carefully before you start making commitments will help you avoid some potentially costly mistakes. 1. Outline a plan that managers in the low-calorie microwaveable food company could follow when selecting pricing strategies for making their products as inelastic as possible. Provide a rationale for your response. Pricing the product to reach out the current and potential customers is crucial for the managers. ...Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Managerial Economics Course Owner: Sadananda Prusty, Ph. D Name of Faculty Members to Teach this Course (To be mentioned after final course allocation) Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad Course Background and Learning Objectives: “Economics is a study of mankind in the ordinary business of life.” So wrote Alfred Marshall, the great nineteenth-century economist, in his textbook, Principles of Economics. Although we have learned much about the economy since Marshall’s time, this definition of economics is as true today as it was in 1890, when the first edition of his text was published. In recent years, there are many questions about the economy that might spark any one’s curiosity. Why are apartments so hard to find in Mumbai City? Why do airlines charge less for a round-trip ticket? Why executive class airfare is costlier than economic class? Why are jobs easy to find in some years and hard to find in others? Why a package tour costs less as compared to individual booking of air ticket and hotel? Moreover, as one go about his/her life, he/she make many economic decisions. During student carrier one has to decide how many years to stay in school. After joining in a job, one has to decide how much of his/her income to spend, how much to save, and how to invest his/her savings. When running a small business or a large corporation, and one will decide...

Economics Project Part 1

...Project Part 1 Matthew Gist ITT Microeconomics ES2550 Roger Lignugaris April 19, 2015 Project Part 1 A. Does the United States have a comparative advantage in wingdings? Explain. It is cheaper to import wingdings than it is to produce them. If the US had a comparative advantage in wingdings, we would export them. Comparative advantage is that the countries with a comparative advantage in a certain good will specialize in and export that good. B. Discuss the effect of the tariff on the number of imports. The tariff decreases the import from 20 at the world price to 6 after the tariff.   The price increases from $6 to $8 for someone to buy a wingding in the US, which means the quantity demanded domestically is now 18 and the quantity supplied domestically is 12, which is only a shortage of 6 units that needs to be supplied. C. How did the imposition of the tariff change consumer surplus? The tariff decreased consumer surplus by the area with height 8-6 and base y = 26 and base z= 18. The area of this can be calculated by splitting the area into a rectangle and a triangle. The rectangle has an area of (8-6)x18=36 and the triangle has an area of (1/2)x(26-18)x2=8. Adding the two the consumer surplus went down by 44. D. How did the imposition of the tariff change producer surplus? Producer surplus increased after the tariff, by the area with height 8-6 and base y=6 and base z=12. The area of a trapezoid is just [(b1+b2)/2]xh, which is [(6+12)/2]x(8-6)=[18/2]x2=18...

Therefore, making long-term objectives or decisions is necessary for any business that relates to investment. For the organization to yield returns and gain good performance in the market it must make good use of the financial resources available to acquire buildings, machines, or other assets that will enable smooth operation within the organization for a long period. A planning that the management needs to consider involves accessing many issues that face the business, and finally decide which issue to invest on depending on its urgency in the business. The issues that are encountered in the business vary depending on attitude, circumstances to risk, and particular age. Therefore, the management must take time to think about the issues before making decisions to avoid possibly costly mistakes. A Plan Used By Managers When Selecting Pricing Strategies In Order To Attain Inelastic In Their Products. It’s very crucial for managers to price their product in order to attain the potential or current customers in the market. As a result, the decision made by the management will determine the future progress or success of the business. For that reason, major strategies like employing pricing, safeguarding inelasticity in products, and many other strategies need to be established to ensure that products are retained by customers...
