Background:
One year ago 3rd biggest telecommunication company sprint laid off 6000 employees and outsourced most of its network monitoring and management activities to off shore to reduce expenditure as a step towards globalization of the market economy .Also, hired Ericsson Services to provide network support in the local markets . Ericsson Services established centers in different parts of India to support these network management services for Sprint by hiring engineers on extremely low wages in those third world countries.
I have a project idea to consolidate network performance, outages and dashboard reports on one system as all in one solution by automating the process which traditionally handled by network engineers in different markets . By utilizing this idea wireless companies can save millions of dollars and ensure security of the users by using internal systems for the network footprints.
Moreover, it can save revenue, improve employees’ efficiency and certainly save jobs which have been outsourced in last one decade.
These reports can be run on central database in four different levels.
1: break fix activities
2: performance optimization activities.
3: executive level daily dashboard report
4: customer related logs, billing , call details etc

Break fix activites for technicians:
1: Running alarm log commands in every geographical area after every 5 minutes to collect outage reports and push the logs into a database with outage severity level and issue ID.
These reports can be collected on Vendor servers (mostly UNIX servers provided by Lucent to support their equipments called cell sites).

Complete Cell/Server outage or backhaul T1 outages as highest priority One or two components less service affecting as Moderate priority Power level difference with least priority.

Assign the issue id to available technician sending email with detail of the issue as well as address and access related information.
Provide interface to technicians to check assign jobs under their names and close issue after resolve.

Performance optimization level:

1: collect network log files from vendor servers for hourly performance of the sites, calls and key performance matrixes.

2: parse the logs into databases on Cell level hourly activity (these KPIs can be in 100’s).
3: provide interface for the users for the real time reports, with all required formulas to check degradation or improvement.
4: using performance reports draw maps to resolve any degradation.

Executive level daily dashboard report

Creating scripts to run reports using database for the previous day performance.
1: market level daily hourly reports
2: trending for the last 30 days to compare performance.

customer related logs, billing , call details etc
Customer billing can be done using the call logs from the database.
These features needs further support from billing department.
Since main database can provide call logs but not the customer profile or billing contract specification .

Cost analysis:

1: 2 Server cost 45000X2= $90,000 on time cost

The Oracle SPARC Enterprise M5000 midrange server delivers high scalability, mission-critical RAS, and advanced virtualization in a compact 10RU space. Oracle's SPARC/Solaris binary compatibility guarantee and the ability to mix several generations of processors provides excellent investment protection.

10 work stations: 2000 X 10= $ 20,000

2: developer cost:

4 programmers, to write scripting for reports, (Shell scripting, PHP scripting, perl scripting, excel Macros , web interface etc) 55,000,4=$ 220,000 per year

4: 5 network engineers to monitor the system 55000X 4= $ 220,000

3: Software cost (vortex to map performance report) $1000 per year. Using LAMP environment can safe money by using free software such as Linux, Apache web server,Mysql and Perl or PHP.

Miscellaneous Expenditure: $55,000

Total cost: 401,000 per year

Saving by elimination networking management group 55,000 X 25=1375,000 -401,000= $ 974, 000

Companies can save $ 974, 000 per year by implementing the automation process and discourage outsourcing.

StakeHolders:

1: Network management groups(Technicians, engineers and executives,)

2: Billing department groups

3: System users as cellular customers

4: System builders

5: Hackers (competitors and habitual hackers)

Project manager:

I have 10 years experience in developing network system management reports. Most recently, developed performance web and excel application for daily EVDO cell site performance for NY/NJ market. Reports were so appreciated in North East that I was asked to include 11 other markets in the database spanning 15 stats.

High level solution:

Database:

I am proposing Mysql database per physical location in the area

Tables:

Cell ID as primary Key

500-1000 performance matrixes.

Cloud computing can be utilized as a backup for the database since it available at very low cost in these days.

Design:

Databases per physical locations such as Brookly1, Brooklyn 2, Manhattan1 etc

Table for outages.

1: Cell id

2: Component OOS

3: severity level

4: issue ID

5: technician name

6: open or closed

Case Analysis 16

...Case 16-2 Brent Bonnin begins his senior year of college filled with excitement and a twinge of fear. The excitement stems from his anticipation of being done with it all—professors, exams, problem sets, grades, group meetings, all-nighters . . . The list could go on and on. The fear stems from the fact that he is graduating in December and has only four months to find a job. Brent is a little unsure about how he should approach the job search. During his sophomore and junior years, he had certainly heard seniors talking about their strategies for finding the perfect job, and he knows that he should first visit the Campus Career Planning Center to devise a search plan. On September 1, the first day of school, he walks through the doors of the Campus Career PlanningCenter and meets Elizabeth Merryweather, a recent graduate overflowing with energy and comforting smiles. Brent explains to Elizabeth that since he is graduating in December and plans to begin work in January, he wants to leave all of November and December open for interviews. Such a plan means that by October 31 he has to have all his preliminary materials, such as cover letters and résumés, submitted to the companies where he wants to work. Elizabeth recognizes that Brent has to follow a very tight schedule, if he wants to meet his goal within the next 60 days. She suggests that the two of them sit down together and decide the major milestones that need to be completed in the job search process. Elizabeth and...

Sociological Milestone 2

...Sociological Portrait: Milestone 2 Brittany Stenger Southern New Hampshire University Introduction to Sociology Dr. Cheryl Avant Sociological Portrail: Milestone 2 Future preparation and economic functions are just two functions of education. We all know that schools are composed of teaching kids to read and write but there are other things that are needed in order for schools to function properly. In my middle school and high school I remember these playing a huge role. When kids are attending school they aren't really looking into the aspects of the way the school functions outside of teachers and just going to class. My school was a little different then most public schools. I always remember it being called the public school that wanted to be a private school. It was small and had a very good success rate. My school helped students a lot in preparing for college. We had a ton of Advanced Placement(AP) classes and opportunities to take outside classes at the local community colleges. We also had multiple meetings with our counselors and also had SAT prep courses available. We also had a program called Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). This was a program where some kids went to gain credentialism. Credentialism is the requirement of certain specific degrees for a particular job (Manza et al., 2013). BOCES was an alternative school where some kids went to learn a trade. They offered things like heavy equipment, early childhood...

...Caring for Populations Milestone 2 Chamberlain College of Nursing NR443: Community Health Nursing 01/29/2016 Caring for Populations Milestone 2 The prosperity of a community stems from its dynamics which include health, safety, business, and social integration. The community that I would like to discuss is the Briarwood neighborhood from Queens, New York. This community flourishes as an urban setting but still expresses its connection to mother nature with its very own botanical gardens and public parks. The parks provide not only recreational activities for the community but a moment of serenity from the everyday ruckus of the urban lifestyle. I will be assessing the community based on the demographic and epidemiological data that is gathered from the United States Census Bureau. Community Overview Briarwood, Queens is located in New York state and has an urban environment. It is well populated with small businesses, banks, restaurants, and medical facilities. There are numerous educational facilities such as: private and public schools, and public libraries. The neighborhood has a well-established public commuting service run by the MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority); residents have access to the subway, as well as busses. The community is diverse in culture and race, with residents from many different regions of the world. The residential area of Briarwood is comprised of building complexes, as well as private housing units. Overall, the Briarwood community is...

...ANONYMOUS IT-200 Milestone Two Southern New Hampshire University Networking: Swagger Distribution’s networking illustration is showing a wired networking system for the company. As the diagram shows, the companies system is most important in the computer room. This is where most of the company’s connection begins. The internet, which is the WAN (Wide Area Network) is the beginning to the LAN (Local Area Network). This starts with the WAN coming into the computer room’s T1 Demarcation Router. The T1 Demarcation Router is then connected to the Main Router which has a connection to the Firewall as well as the Ethernet Switch. The Ethernet Switch then has a Fiber Optic cable connecting to the warehouse Remote Ethernet Switch. This allows the connectivity from the Remote Ethernet Switch to be connected to the PC’s in the shipping office. Going back to the Ethernet Switch, it is also connected to a Cross Patch Panel from which an Ethernet Drop is made allowing the data to be accessed from the offices. It is important for the company to have access to all resources throughout the company. Having these connections allows it to do so. The key aspects to the network consists of Routers, Switches, Firewall, Servers, and PC’s. Amongst these, the Routers direct the data in which direction it needs to go while the Switches are forwarding the information to the devices that it is intended to go to. The Firewall is allowing certain information to be processed through to help protect the...

He’s cause for damage to the heart was the steroids, of which he was unaware of the consequences of taking the steroids at the time he took so there wasn’t any sort of health irresponsibility known otherwise. His chances to live 10-15 more years are very high so it’s one point investing in him. He has a family to take care of, wife and the 3 kids who he has to support till they are on their feet and so forth. He also has been a good supporting father as he’s already being supporting their dreams career wise and the future. So my first choice with all confidence would be Jerry. The number 2 choice is Ozzie because as LONG as he does not get back on his old ways HE does hold out some hope on society as a whole as long he does NOT revert back and does good in society by helping out and he no longer does any drugs - he really can have a useful and a prosperous and productive life. His chances of living after a successful heart transplant are another 10 years but only if he stays off the drugs and which is not really guaranteed but if he does he can be a very good mentor and a coach or a guidance for teens with troubled life as they are on drugs already. For analytical purposes the order in which the data is displayed makes no difference. The question regarding the division of work for the respondent, and the question regarding if the respondent is a member of management or supervision is also nominal. Also, the question pertaining to length is service is nominal because it only seeks one answer. The ten questions relating to how each respondent feels is interval-level data. The ten questions ask each respondent to rate his or her individual feelings on a scale of one to five. One is considered very negative and five is considered very positive. This is known as a Likert Scale. The Likert Scale is the most popular form of survey data collection because it is easy to assemble, the scale is more reliable, and produce more interval-level data (Cooper & Schindler, 2011). Data Coding After collecting the data, Sally, one the office support staff, began the task of coding the data. While some values were pre-determined other...
