Mindfulness meditation (MM), body awareness, and yoga are mindfulness techniques used in a cognitive therapy called Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) that are used to help people to develop a more mindful outlook on things. Out of these techniques, MM has be recognized in empirical work for its ability to promote positive psychological well-being. Many empirical articles have conducted studies on patients who suffer with mental illnesses and disorders such as anxiety disorder, depression, and chronic pain-symptom reduction and in these studies MM has been strongly related to improvement within these patients mental health (Wolkin, 2015).

I tend to focus more so on forgiving others when my feelings are left in the uncharted place. I plan to cultivate forgiveness by analyzing the reasoning behind the pain, addressing the issue, and using mindfulness meditation to bring forth a healthier energy called positive emotions. According to Baumgardner & Crothers (2009) positive emotions are a, “central component of subjective well-being, where people enjoy frequent positive emotions and few negative emotions that magnify simple pleasures used to reduce stress and bad feelings.” With more positive emotion I believe it will become a lot easier to forgive …show more content…
I am engaging in this form of contemplative practice, because forgiveness has been a struggle area for me. Forgiveness is enormously complex, because just saying “I'm sorry” does not always resonate with a person. Research defines forgiveness as not being a sign of weakness; and it doesn’t mean you’re allowing someone to mistreat you nor are you overlooking their poor behaviors. Forgiveness simply means taking your power back and not allowing wrongdoers to take away your freedom by putting you in a victim mindset (Rosenzweig, 2013). Therefore, in my case, I am focusing on forgiving others when they offend and or hurt my feelings. The way I plan to cultivate forgiveness is to practice MM. I originally started out only meditating three times a week, but now, I meditate five times per week for about nine minutes to the same guided meditation recording called “Mindfulness Meditation to help relieve Anxiety and Stress” by WiseMindbody. Through this process, I show an inward pause by becoming aware of where I am emotionally and physically. Implementation of this process will project a fuller spectrum view of all situations; no longer will the need of making premeditated judgements block potential growth aspects thus preventing any future misunderstandings. These methods share three theoretical perspectives: thinking or cognition affects behavior; cognitive behavior may be monitored and altered; and desired behavior change can take place through cognitive change (Piotrowski). Albert Ellis and Aaron Beck were instrumental in developing CBT.
