“Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.” – Abraham Lincoln. In this quote, Lincoln talks about being strong and people trying the best they can with what they have. This directly relates to both Jacob, the main character in the book Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Abe Lincoln, our 16th president. Abraham Lincoln shared many similarities to Jacob since they both lost someone at a young age, faced a very rigorous obstacle, and overcame that challenge. Lincoln and Jacob were both young when they witnessed a loved one pass away and they became stronger, better leaders. It can take a huge toll on children when they loose people. “When young Abraham was 9 years old, his mother died on October 5, 1818, of tremetol (milk sickness) …show more content…
Lincoln faced his challenge by standing with what he believed in and fought for it. “And by the end of the war, it is likely that Lincoln is committed to not just ending slavery, but ensuring full citizenship to the ‘black race’. Less than a week after Robert E. Lee effectively surrenders the Confederacy, Lincoln is assassinated” (“Abraham Lincoln”). Even though Lincoln couldn’t live to see what he had accomplished, it lives on even today. Much like Lincoln, Jacob also stood by what he believed in and didn't give up on himself. “He could see the monsters. The moment she said it, all the horrors I thought I’d put behind me came flooding back. They were real. They were real and they’d killed my grandfather” (243). Since no one else could see the monsters, everyone else convinced Jacob they weren't real, but really he was right all along. He overcame the obstacle by eventually fighting the monsters and saving his friends and family. He also believed in himself to defeat the monsters. It takes a lot for one to believe in their self, but once they do, they can do wonderful things. That was one quality both Jacob and Lincoln

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children

...We’ve known each other for a very long time, since early elementary, so I certainly know a bit about you. One thing I have learned is that you are an avid reader. Because of this, I would like to recommend Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children because I think it would be right up your alley. You already saw me reading it in House & Seminar and mentioned that you had an interest in it, so I’d like to tell you why I think you should finally pick it up. You were the person who actually got me started with young adult fiction with the Percy Jackson series, so you probably have some idea as to what I like. I enjoy books with a dose of action with detailed and sometimes intense overarching plots. A book really gets good if this is combined with a unique and memorable group of characters with engaging subplots mixed in. One thing that I enjoy in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is the variety in the main cast. Everyone is unique and no one succumbs to what I like to call “protagonist syndrome” where one character, typically the main, is simply too strong in all available aspects and seems able to consistently accomplish any feat no matter the odds. The author does a very good job...
