1) Account for the way Rifkin dissociates himself from modern technology in the article (200) * Modern technology nowadays stops us from being social with people. We are constantly checking our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. In this way, we dissociate ourselves. Rifkin dissociates himself from modern technology because he want to be social instead of being online. Rifkin wonders what happens to our lives if we are online 24/7. He ask: “What happens when our lives are embedded in around-the-clock relationships operating at the speed of light?” (p. 40 ll. 40-42). We dissociate ourselves in the speed of light. The speed of light is the fastest in the world, and that means, that we are online so fast and easy, so why should we not be online? Rifkin brings a lot of arguments up, why it is bad for us to be online, and why we should be social instead of it. He thinks that we should be asking ourselves what kind of “connections” and what types of “access” that matter. Maybe we are online just to be cool, and to follow the modern technology. Rifkin think that we should be asking ourselves a deeper question than if it is good to integrate our lives into the new technology revolution. Rifkin thinks that we should find some technology that won’t take over our lives.

2) Describe how Rifkin builds up his argumentation (150) * “Stress related diseases - including depression, heart disease, strokes, cancer and diabetes - are rising so quickly…” (p. 40 ll. 62-64). Rifkin tries to scare the readers by using the risk of being online too much. In this way, he brings up topics that everyone is afraid to get. Rifkin mention these diseases survival times in the text to remember us what would happen if we don’t take care and start being social. He also mention that in 1910 the average adult was sleeping nine to ten hours a night and today it is less than seven hours a night. Today we have about 500 extra waking hours a year. He mention this as another way to scare us, and perhaps make us quit the social network just a little. To be extra critical he mention that millions of children are diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in the US. Rifkin builds up his arguments by scaring the readers.

3) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living in a ‘nanosecond culture’ from your own perspective. * Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is a normal thing to have in my age. It is actually weird if some people isn’t social that way. It is so important for everyone to be following the modern technology all the time. I think it would be hard for me to live without my phone for a day. The need to check Facebook is hanging in me all the time but I’m sure I’m the only one that feels this way. I think it’s a disadvantage to feel that way. I really want to be social and be together with my friend all the time, but when I am, we are taking pictures and posting them on Instagram to tell everyone what a great time we are having together. Is that “to be social”? To family gatherings we kind of forget to be with our family instead of just being together with our phone, and that is a problem. I know that I will regret every second I have spend on my phone when my grandmother was there, when she someday die. I want to remember the good things instead of my dissocial presence.
Of course the modern technology have advantages. We are today able to communicate with the whole world. We are able to have connection to other people any time we want. I think that it’s amazing that it’s possible. I think that the world is going somewhere good because of the new technology, and I don’t think that it should stop now. New ideas is coming to make the technology even better than it already is, and this will continue in the future.

Merricat readily admits to the deed, saying that she put the poison in the sugar bowl because she knew Constance would not take sugar. Constance blammed Shirley Jackson portrayed what a real, deep friendship is. Mary Katherine and her sister Constance were more than sisters and more than friends. Merricat depended on Constance for love and support all while being very protevice of her. In my opinion Jackson wrote Constance as a depressed female who lives in fear of being judged harshly yet again, as well as one who never wants to go out and enjoy what the town may have to offer her like her sister Merricat did. Merricat did not go into town too often but she did enjoy going every now and again. There are countless different levels of friendship, some friendships are borderline acquaintances while others are deep, loving friendship and that is how Jackson decided to make Merricat and Constance. Being a deep friend goes deeper than just having love towards someone, it is having their best interest at heart and knowing the other person inside and out. After thinking about this writing prompt it became clear that Constance is the better friend. Merricat allowed her sister to be...
