Potential * The potential for hosting a red carpet theme party is to make guests who are arriving at the party feel like VIPs. Laying out a red carpet purchased or rented from a party supply store, or a red carpet made from red fabric at the foot of the entryway along with velvet rope rails is a great way to show guests just how special you feel they are. Some people view red carpets to be only for celebrities or world-renowned dignitaries; so when your guests walk the red carpet to your party, they will expect to receive VIP treatment--all in good fun.

A`Time Frame * The best time for hosting a red carpet theme party is on the day of a special occasion or the date of a scheduled special event, such as an award show (Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards, etc.). For a movie premiere, the party entourage could go to the movies to watch the show and then have the party immediately following the show. The same agenda works for a concert or stage show. Make sure to have someone setting up the party during the show or have everything in place before heading off for the show, so that things will be easy to pull together when everyone arrives back at the party. Oftentimes if it is a movie premiere, one could wait until the movie comes out on video until hosting the party. This way everyone cand watch the movie during the party.
Features
* When guests arrive and begin to stroll the red carpet to the entrance, simulate the paparazzi by having a photographer or several photographers shooting flash photos. This is a great way for guests to feel special while creating a memento of the party for a future scrapbook or to share with friends. Inside of the party, be sure to treat guests like royalty by offering gift baskets or swag bags full of goodies, similar to what is given to celebrities at award shows (albeit on a less expensive price scale). Include items in the swag bags that relates to the theme of the party you are celebrating. For example, if you and your guests are celebrating the Country Music Award Show, or the CMAs, you can theme your red carpet party around the country music stars who are in the lineup for awards. Fill the baskets with CDs from the artists as well as concert T-shirts, books and items such as lotions or gift certificates. Create trivia games to play that relate to the party, with prizes for the winners.
Size
* The size of a red carpet event varies depending on the budget of the host. Some red carpet theme parties can get expensive if gift baskets are given and the host is buying food for multiple guests. Keeping the guest list to around 10 people allows many party hosts to keep the party budget under control. A smaller sized party also allows you to give more attention to the guests. If the party requires inviting many people, trim down the door prizes and serve inexpensive appetizers and soft drinks.
Function
* The function of the red carpet-themed party is to have fun. Have guests dress like their favorite movie star and then play a game where other guests need to figure out who they are supposed to resemble. Plan food that is similar to what would be served at a Hollywood party. Make shrimp cocktails and tiny tea sandwiches for appetizers. Instead of having a four-course meal, try serving simple items such as a quality wine and a variety of gourmet cheeses. No matter what food is being served be sure to give the tables a high-lass look with tablecloths, fine china and fancy stemware. A simple centerpiece of candles or casual floral arrangement also helps to bring the look together.
