1. In a short paragraph, describe ModCloth’s brand.

ModCloth is an American online retailer specializing in vintage, vintage-inspired and indie clothing, accessories and decor. The company is headquartered in San Francisco’s South of Market District. They also have an office in LA’s historic Coast Savings Building, as well as an office and fulfillment center in Pittsburg, PA. ModCloth was launched as a website in 2002 by Susan Gregg-Koger with the help of her then-boyfriend, now-husband Eric Koger. The pair continued working on the website while attending Carnegie Mellon University and went full-time with the operation in 2006. The company’s strengths are that they offer unique, one of a kind pieces. They have a staff of stylists who are always available to chat with you depending on different questions or concerns you may have. They offer their customers gifts with every purchase they receive. The weaknesses are that their download speed is slow and is a lot slower compared to their competitor Anthropologie. It should be faster when switching from category to category. The photography of the products is not very good. The images should be clearer, and the zoom function should be better in order for the customer to really get a sense of what the product looks and feels like. The photography and visuals should be top-notch especially since ModCloth is sold solely online.

2. What is the difference between ModCloth’s core product and its actual product? Describe its actual product and your assessment of whether the actual product provides an attractive mix of characteristics.

Core Product- Defines what the core benefits are that the product will provide for the customer.
Actual Product- Defines the production of the actual product around the core product. May have as many as five characteristics

ModCloth actual product is the selling of vintage clothing or vintage inspired apparel for women...

Consultant Case 1 Explain how these entrepreneurs exhibit the entrepreneurial spirit? As mentioned by Scarborough, researchers have identified several characteristics that are often found in entrepreneurs. A prime example of one of these characteristics is the future orientation, which seems to be perfectly describe Derek Johnson who listened to his friend at the University of Houston who was often tasked with having to send text messages to a large number of people, which is time consuming and problematic. After hearing the problem, Derek came up with the idea of his company which allowed a person to type the text from a computer, rather than a phone, and send the message to multiple people via text messaging rather than email or social media. Susan Gregg got her love of vintage clothing from her grandmother’s old clothes. After thinking she would just sell her stock pile of clothing, she became aware of the opportunity to make a career of it. Her spirit, enthusiasm, excitement, initiative, commitment, will to succeed and dedication to the venture are examples of the entrepreneur spirit. These are each characteristics of value of achievement over money which is another trait identified in the aforementioned studies.  Have you encountered a “stress point” recently or talked with...
