Is Modi’s silence on firm allegations against intolerance justified?
BY ELLEN BARRY Jan.26.20168

It all Started when Bollywood star Aamir Khan's wife Ria Khan made controversial statements on live media about the intolerance in India. This was followed by the mass turning back of the state awards received by actors, writers and scientists. This delicate issue of intolerance in India which had been long dwelled upon, was followed also by a number of academics in India and abroad issuing a statements against the rising “intolerance and bigotry”.
The controversial statements of Aamir Khan also sparked other religion issues such as the banning of cow meat in Maharashtra, killings of MM Kalburgi and Govind Pansare.
These events were unjustly credited to Modi’s BJP rule as all the events took place under Narendra Modi’s reign as Prime Minister of India. Although many believe the rising intolerance is to be blamed on Modi, several others contradict the claim by insisting that the country has not become intolerant suddenly under the Narendra Modi led BJP government.
Mr. Modi addressed this issue directly, when on a visit to the UK, the Indian Prime Minister said to the crowd:
“Any event in any corner of India - it doesn't matter if there are even one or two incidents - we will not tolerate it and the law will deal with it strictly It does not matter whether such an incident is significant for a country of 125 crore people. For us, every incident is serious."
Mr. Modi being known for addressing issues directly and efficiently made a statement for all the critics who believed that Mr. Modis BJP was leaning towards an intolerant India. Although Mr. Modi made a strong statement in the UK, intolerance as an issue has always existed in the country.

With the active behavior of the censor board in India Books and films have been banned as a casual act for a long period of time, driving the country away from its constitution, in which India is shown to be a country of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.
This problem of intolerance has not originated in Modis Reign as Prime Minister, Mukul Kesevan a political and social essayist defends BJP as he responds to the opposition critics “the main opposition Congress party does not exactly have a stellar record in defending liberal values.”
Allegations of the opposition party claiming Mr. Modi of double speaking were further hurt when reputed historian and academic Sanjay Subramhmanyam publicly questioned their claims ”Intolerance in India is not a new thing. So why are we suddenly so outraged and worried about what has been happening after the BJP government came to power last year?”

Despite being proven that intolerance in India did not rise during Mr.Modi’s term as prime minister, intolerance in India with regard to different communities, religion, language speakers has still been prevalent issue. Experts and BJP supporters claim it to be different from the rule of the congress.
BJP in its regime like many others have used intimidating language and as it has become a part of the public discourse, this is one of the significant factors contributing to the intolerance being induced by them. Mr.Sanjay believes the issue to be as significant as the 1975 Emergency or the Nandigram massacre and believes it is an issue to be protested and resolved with urgency.
India as a country has had a history of being intolerant as much as the rest of the countries. Possessing a history of violence based on religion, caste, color, xenophobia, language, communities and political jockeying the country is no exception to the world in terms of its history.
Other than moments of toleration and cosmopolitan coexistence the county has not had a golden age, this is largely due to the highly diverse population of India that has failed to coexist in complete peace and harmony over a very long time period of its unified existence.
Although been made clear that the issue of intolerance has not originated in BJP’s regime the opposition parties have constantly accused of Mr.Modis party being in constant denial to the events that outline the recent sparks of intolerance. The Representatives of the ruling party deflected all the major evidences of intolerance in an “inert” fashion as quoted in a post- Lok Sabha session.

Although there appears to be widespread support for Mr.Modi’s BJP among the areas of majority, Opposition party’s critics have expressed Skepticism in a widespread manner, saying the Indian Leader has a knack of gibing liberal speeches outside the country and is failing to accept and correct the issue by remaining in constant denial.

. History of Industrialization in India

...industrialization policies This volume of essays is the outcome of a detailed study by a team of contributing research scholars led by Atul Sood. This timely evaluation provides an insight into many crucial questions: What are the constituent elements of Gujarat’s growth story? To what extent can the successful features of Gujarat’s growth story be attributed to the political regime fashioned by Narendra Modi? Is it possible to replicate even this limited success story at the national level – as Modi’s starry eyed upper and middle class following would like to believe? More significantly: what are the implications of Gujarat’s Development Model in terms of its sustainability and its desirability? What happens when we assess this development through a set of comprehensive   measures, judge its implication for the average citizen’s material wellbeing, and see what it means for the political and economic rights of citizens?  The study proceeds through a meticulous examination of existing official data sources on investment, infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing , employment, poverty , inequality, education and health expenditures and a set of other indicators of development.  These are then used to explain various developmental outcomes in the state in relation to national averages and the performance of other states which have also experienced high growth rates recently, such as Maharashtra, Haryana and Tamilnadu. Atul Sood’s cogently argued and insightful introduction brings...

Fascism

...NAME- ZOYA DCOSTA COURSE-FYBMM ROLL NO-M12018 DATE- 24/1/2013. SUBJECT- POLITICAL SCIENCE INDIVISUAL PROJECT TOPIC NO 8- “FASCISM”. * EVERY NATION DESERVES ITS OWN FASCISM! Fascism is a terrible kind of political domination; capable of infringing on any eligible rights of any communities or people to unpredictable magnitude. Historically it is an output of the capitalistic system and takes various shapes and forms, depending upon the particular social order. Fascism does emerge in capitalist crises, the moments when the struggle for production reaches a point when the workers can no longer purchase the products they produce, a crisis of over-production and declining profits or an intense battle for cheaper labor, raw materials, and new markets; that is, war. Although this came into practice as a political ideology in 1919 with the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, Fascism became more prominent after the 1st world war when Adolf Hitler a small time army personal who did not get its due respect and position and was treated very badly by his Party to whom he was affiliated. It was between the 1st and 2nd World War the most famous fascist leader who went to become the Dictator and invaded almost half of the European countries and Asia with His Japanese’s allies. Thus Fascism could not be understood in many of its practical manifestations as a party organization, as a system of education or as a discipline. With campaigning for the high-profile contest coming to an end at 5pm on Monday, both the BJP and Congress have lined up their arsenal in full force for a fight to finish. While BJP's charge will be led by its PM candidate Narendra Modi, Congress will have Priyanka Gandhi leading from the forefront. While Modi is defying tradition to storm into the constituency of his chief rival, Congress insiders say that even party chief Sonia Gandhi might join her razing army on the front on Monday to give the prospects of her son one last push. The Aam Aadmi Party, too, will have its star campaigners bolstering the campaign of Kumar Vishwas which, of late, has got mired in the tangle of attacks and FIRs. Even BJP top brass in the state was taken unawares when word reached them on Friday evening about Modi's rally right in Amethi. When TOI reached the rally ground on Saturday, top state BJP leaders were found running around to make arrangements. "It's a big battle and neither side wants to yield even an inch," was the feeling among party workers in both Congress and BJP camps. They admit that the fact that Modi chose to take the battle right into Rahul's territory...

Time to Follow Rajdharma Mr. Prime Minister

...integrity, a no-nonsense approach towards public service, and a past as Chief minister which would make any politician jealous of him. The Indians had found a panacea in Narendra Modi, who we sincerely believed would take our country to glorious heights. There is no doubt that new sant of Sabarmati has been incessantly trying to deliver whatever he had promised and he has considerable achievements in his kitty from his 18 months rule. India has become the fastest growing nation overtaking china. India has become an important player in global politics, a more proactive and pragmatic foreign policy. The govt has been able to ensure high growth with low inflation (food inflation though has been high) and that too with low fiscal deficit. The Indian policies are now being implemented in mission mode, the prominent examples being PMJDY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana) and Toilets in schools. We find no example in recent history of Indian schemes completed on time. In social sector, Accidental and life insurance at Rs12 and Rs 330 have come as a huge relief to the poor and the marginalized sections of society. Moreover in all these 18 months he has never made a single statement which can be construed as even being remotely communal. He has truly upheld the dignity of the office of The Prime Minister. Modi deserves Kudos for all these achievements. This shining story has its other side also, which looks most unpleasant and ludicrous. The theory of Love Jihad, according to this theory...

Disadvantage and Advantages of Media

...Protection of individual properties[edit] There are systems that property owners purchase and fit to their home to stop water entering their house. These systems work on blocking doors, windows and air vents with boards. Propert2.jpg Propert3.jpg Protection of communities[edit] When more homes, shops and infrastructure are threatened by the effects of flooding, then the benefits of greater protection is worth the additional cost. Temporary Flood Defenses can be constructed relatively quickly in certain locations and provide protection from rising flood waters. Communit2.jpg Communit1.jpg Rivers running through large urban developments will often have been controlled and channeled. These channels or canals will have a fixed capacity and if flood water flows exceed this capacity then the city will flood. Over time defenses will have been constructed to minimize the effects, and this will generally be through raising the sides of the river channel with embankments, walls or levees. The large number of people and huge value of infrastructure at risk in cities, means that protection works of high cost can be justified. The water level is receding in parts of Srinagar, which had turned into a giant lake from the waters of the swollen Jhelum. The water level was two to three storeys high in areas like Raj Bagh. People moved to hospitals and other high rise buildings to escape the rising water. The Army...

Swach Bharat

...Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched his nationwide cleanliness campaign, the 'Swachh Bharat Mission' or 'Clean India Campaign' from the Valmiki Basti in New Delhi on Thursday. Addressing the nation at the launch, Modi asked India's 1.25 billion people to join the 'Swachh Bharat Mission' and promote it to everyone. After paying tribute at the memorials of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries, Modi himself swept a pavement at Valmiki Basti, a colony of sanitation workers before the formal launch of the 'Clean India' drive at Rajpath. While launching the mission at Mandir Marg, he also made a surprise visit at the local police station to check on its cleanliness. Modi said, "Today is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastriji. We have gained freedom under leadership of Gandhiji, but his dream of clean India is still unfulfilled." He added, "Swachh Bharat Campaign logo is not just a logo, through it Gandhiji is watching us and we all should clean India. I am not claiming that the newly elected government is doing everything. Be it temples, mosques, gurudwaras or any place, we must take efforts to clean our surroundings. Cleanliness is not only the responsibility of the 'safaai kaamgar', it is the responsibility of 125 crore Indians. If Indians can reach Mars at a cheap cost, can we not clean our neighbourhoods?" Giving credit to previous governments, Modi said, "I do not make any claim that...
