Monty Python parodies the medieval romances characteristic of hero-knight (bravery). In Monty Python Tim warns king Arthur about tiny creatures, in other words the tiny rabbit is really dangerous. Tim says, “ look, that rabbit’s got a vicious streak a mile wide. It is a killer!” (Python 14). The rabbit may look innocent, but is evil; however the knights charge in. The rabbit attacks them and all that is heard is the knights yelling “aaaaaugh! Run Away!” (Python 14). The knights withdrawal makes fun about their duty to be brave because they are defeated by such a tiny creature. Meanwhile in …show more content…
In the book Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, Gawain’s most important thing he has to do before leaving for combat is to go to God’s altar. Armitage wrote, “ Yet for all that metal he still made it to Mass, honored the Almighty before the high altar” (Armitage 592-593). It shows that no mater what is going on and the difficulty it is for a knight to move because of all that armor; will still go to mass to worship God and ask for help throughout their journey and combat. In Monty Python there is a group of men that are dragging a woman and yelling witch. The crowd yells, “burn her! Burn the witch! Burn her!” (6) In this sixth scene, the lady is not being at least given respect even though that is one of characteristics of medieval ages. Instead of following the rules of respecting and honoring a woman, the crowd of men attack her. Then when King Arthur arrives, he becomes involved also since he says “A duck!” (5) when Bedevere asks “what also floats in water?” (5). They were trying to figure out if the lady is a witch and because witches float in water Arthur suggests that she might weight like a duck also. His duty was to try and save her since that was something that had to be done during medieval time. In Sir Gawain, Gawain honors and respect women and his duty as a knight is to do anything that a lady asks. The Lord’s wife asks Gawain for a kiss and “the woman kissed Gawain” (Armitage 1555). He allowed her because it is his duty as a knight to da what a lady asks. So comparing both occasions, the woman in Monty Python is being tortured and made fun off, since they even dress her like a witch while in Sir Gawain he does not hurt the lady in any way and does what she
