I watched a movie named Confessions which is a mystery about two years ago. It is based on housewife-turned-author Kanae Minato's 2008 debut mystery novel that won the 2009 Honya Taisho award. It was directed by famous Japanese director Netsuya Nakashima, and with Takako Matsu in it. It’s a Japanese movie, and it was really impressed me, until now it’s still my favorite movie.
This movie is filled with amazing actors who make the film alive. Takako Matsu’s superb acting is one of the highlights of this movie. But I think the most part of success should be own to the writer of the original novel and the movie director, because an amazing story made this movie become wonderful. This movie will surprise you in every second. You don’t know what will happen until you finish watching the movie.
It is a story about a murder and a confession. A junior high school teacher, Yuko Moriguchi, announces to her class that she will resign, then she goes on to explain that two pupils in her class, whom she dubs "Student A" and "Student B", had murdered her three-year-old daughter. That’s how the amazing story begins. The rest of the film switches between the aftereffect of Moriguchi's confession and the events before the confession through a series of first-person narratives from Moriguchi and her three students. It’s the most brilliant way to tell the story which likes a onion, layer by layer, the more you watch, the more you get. I don’t think it’s horrible movie, there is no any bloody or scared scenes, so you don’t need to be afraid or something.
Overall, this is a great movie with a mix of a ton of surprises and secrets all rolled into one. There is no way for you to imagine how it ends up. But I can tell you murderer paid for what he did, that’s the ending I want. I highly recommend everyone to watch this movie, although my words are too poor to describe how amazing it is. It won’t disappoint you.

Hollywood was scrutinized first for allegedly using the film industry to influence the public about communism. The House of Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) was formed in 1938, and it’s investigations were “frequently focused on exposing communists working inside the federal government or subversive elements working in the Hollywood film industry” (Red Scare, 2013). On September 21, 1947, HUAC “subpoenaed forty-three members of the Hollywood film community to answer charges about communist infiltration in the movie industry” (Friedman, 1984, p. 214). Ten of the Forty-three appeared before HUAC and “refused to answer the Committees questions about their political affiliations” (Friedman, 1984, p. 214). Priest Review

...In the movie Priest, there are three sociological issues worth to be discussed. First, concerning the concept of socialization, Greg, Matthew and Mr. Gobshite were regarded as had performed deviant behaviors. Greg, who was a priest, was in love with and having sex with a man; Matthew, who was also a Father, was living with a black woman; Mr. Gobshite had sexual assaulted his daughter. They acted against social norms, while their behaviors were even considered as crime under the law. From symbolic interactionist perspective, labeling theory stated that deviance is a label that society put onto the rule-breaking one. In the story it would be Greg. Since homosexual was a taboo for most of the people, he was discriminated and spurned by the others. Thus, at the end of movie when Greg was offering, no citizens were willing to receive the Lord’s Supper from him. In the modern society, homosexual is still unacceptable, the situation was worse in the old days. Once he was labeled as “filthy”, he was forced to stick with the label. Second, it is about religion. Two functions of religion proposed by a sociologist named Emile Durkheim were reflected in the film, they are social control function and supportive function. For the former one, religion helps sacralise many cultural norms, such as in Catholic, an individual should be unite in wedlock with an individual of opposite sex since it is the wish of God. Though Greg is homosexual, through his disagreement towards the cohabitation of...

Guilty Until Purged

...Jacob Bowman Mr. Romick British Literature March 11, 2016 Guilty Until Purged God and evil, they both lie within us all. The duality of man is a major topic that has been discussed for centuries. Throughout the story of “The Strange Case Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”, Stevenson presents his idea of the duality of man- where we all have a demonic side within us. Evil is held within waiting to surface, but we ignore our impulses, we act as if it does not exist. Stevenson presents this idea by using two characters, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, who are essentially the same person. One of these characters, Dr. Jekyll, symbolizes the good side of man, and the other, Mr. Hyde, signifies the purest of evil. Conscience, the inner sense of what is right or wrong in one's motives, it’s what refrains us from fulfilling all of our impulses.Without a conscience, all hell would break loose and everyone would abandon the moral laws of life. The theme of good and evil is a topic that is talked about in length in books, movies, stories, and in real life. Good vs. evil is referred to in “The Bible" many times. “As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” (Romans 7:17-19). This quote from “The Bible” relates to the idea of the duality of man laced within “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”. This quote talks about how the evil...

Romeo and Juliet

...Romeo and Juliet: The Movie I believe that this play/movie is based off of a conflict theory. The reason I say this is because both families here are trying to gain power and also trying to be the dominant family. As I go into detail on this movie it will explain the conflict theory. William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is fully summarized in Shakespeare's prologue: "Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona where we lay our scene. From ancient grudge break to new mutiny where civil blood make civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, a pair of star crossed lovers who take their life" (Universal, 1996). This movie is a masterful culmination of the director's phenomenal ability to create a powerful introduction, to select a realistic, but surreal setting, to choose realistic actors, and to enact specialized dramatic effects. Sitting in the theater, watching this movie for the first time, I heard static break in to interrupt the beginning credits. A newscaster, sounding serious, came on the screen in a special report. I sat up to pay attention. She was reporting a tragedy that had recently happened in some place called Verona. I was pulled in thinking it to be a true special report. Ah-hah!! It was a trick. A trick to get people to do just what I did. Trained are we to listen to newscasts, our life-line in present day society, where we receive a lot of our information. A trick, and...

“My Cousin Vinny” Versus the Criminal Justice System

...“My Cousin Vinny” versus the criminal justice system Though “My Cousin Vinny” is a good comedy it is a just parallel of the criminal justice system. In due course the procedures as outlined in our text, mirrors that of the movie. Though the movie does not show the reporting and only peripheral glances into the preliminary investigation of the crime, it is apparent that such events took place in accordance to the rules and regulations set forth by our judicial system. The crime as reported/discovered by the police was first degree felony robbery and murder. The store was robbed and the clerk was discovered shot to death. The charges stemming from the incident subsequently was murder in the first degree; armed robbery with serious bodily injury; criminal conspiracy, fleeing and alluding to avoid apprehension. As in present day policing the nature of the crime in its entirety was represented and in immediate investigation followed suit. Over the course of the movie time is ill represented yet all procedures are justly followed to the letter. It is not explained at what point the investigation of the four witness’s took place. As customary in reality when a crime is discovered an APB or all-points bulletin was cast. However, in accordance to chapter 4 of our text both defendants, Billy Gambini played by Ralph Macchio and his friend Stan Rothenstein played by Mitchell Whitfield, were pulled over due to reasonable suspicion. In this case reasonable suspicion was that two males...

Midnight in Paris

...Frank Vargas Professor Beverly Whitson English 52 24 March 2014 The Era We Live In What’s one of the worst parts about living life? It can be not being able to find that one true love in life, or even living with regret in your heart. I always hear conversations about people being together with a person they don’t love, or people talking about something they wish they could have done when they had the chance, but were too concerned about another factor in their lives, now having to live life full of regrets. Like Gil Pender says, “That’s just the era we line in…” In the 2011 film, Midnight In Paris, written and directed by Woody Allen, tells the story of Gil Pender’s, played by Owen Wilson, longing for self-fulfillment and his love for historical 1920’s Paris, France. The film also stars veteran actress, Rachael McAdams, playing Gil’s significant other, Inez. The film starts off with Gil and Inez, two engaged Americans in modern Paris having a little vacation. On a lonesome late night stroll, Gil finds himself lost in the backstreets of Paris and sees an old car from the 20’s drive up to him with open doors. Ready for an adventure in Paris he decides to get into the vehicle. Little does he know that he just stepped into a time portal transporting Gil back to the wonderful times of 1920’s Paris. Confused and full of awe, he assures himself that, “He was born too late.” While trying to figure out where he is, he runs into another young American couple, Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald...

Post-Modernism in Baz Luhrmann’s Film Adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Play Romeo and Juliet: a Comparison of Two Creative Works from Two Different Periods.

...Post-modernism in Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet: a comparison of two creative works from two different periods. In 1996, Baz Luhrmann directed “Romeo + Juliet”, a modern twist on the famous tragedy play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare in 1597, in which the main characters Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet where portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. While some praise the strange interpretation of the old tale, there are also those who condemn the rendition as destructive and disrespectful to the great work of Shakespeare. There will always be two sides to every story and this study will take that into consideration as well as comparing the two different yet similar works to see how post modernism has played a role in Luhrmann’s version of Romeo and Juliet. Postmodernism has been given many definitions. Some say it’s simply the outlook that the generation of late twenty first century has on life which entails the mistrust and dismissal of theories that existed before such as religion, ethics and law. According to these youths, the difference between right and wrong or what the meaning of life is based solely on that individual’s perspective. In film, the idea of postmodernism is somewhat similar as it’s an artist medium in which to undermine social norms and present one’s individual belief. The difference lies in that postmodernism in film concerns bringing in many aspects of popular culture to produce something...

The Queen (2006)

...his personal memories and in this way the symbiotic nature of history and memory is revealed. insights into Queen Elizabeth II's emotions during the aftermath of Diana's death can be gained through observing the interplay between the collective and personal memories of the event. Frears' imagined interpretation of the Queen's vulnerability challenges the public's collective memory of Diana's death. Frears' perspective is immediately depicted in the opening intertextual quote from Shakespeare's Henry IV: "uneasy lies the head that wears a crown". Sympathy is created as Frears suggests the difficulty of the Queen's role of being a leader, a role that she interpreted as having to be stoic and strong. This is supported by Robin Janvrin's confession to Blair, body language and expression secretive: "this public reaction has completely thrown her". The Queen came onto the throne at the age of 27, and it was a role that she had become accustomed to by the time of these...

Mccarthyism and the Red Scares Impact on the Media in the 50s/60s

...McCarthyism and The Second Red Scares impact on Media in the 1950-60s decades (Research and Analysis Paper) In 1950, fewer than 50,000 Americans out of a total US population of 150 million were members of the Communist Party(Gilder Lehrman). However following WWII the the time period of the 1950-1970 was marked as a period of mass fear of Communism. American fears of internal communist infiltration reached Its highest point since the First Red Scare of the 1920-30s. Government organizations investigated millions of americans, “asking what books and magazines they read, what unions and civic organizations they belonged to, and whether they went to church” (Gilder Lehrman). This time period was also marked by the major shift and blacklisting of celebrities primarily in show business. One of the people who took full advantage of the mass hysteria was Senator Joseph McCarthy from Wisconsin. McCarthy began his crusade by giving a speech at the Women’s Republican Club of Wheeling, in West Virginia, where he stated that he had a list of over 220 confirmed communists living in the US. The numbers of this statement dropped over the years as people began to watch him more closely. However this didn’t stop him from rising to more power, after the Republicans regained a majority in the senate, McCarthy took control of a subcommittee, and performed investigations on government agencies. Other Cold War “activists” consisted of Minnesota Senator Hubert Humphrey, union leader Walter Reuther...
