I. Medical Staff Size and Specialty Distribution
The current medical staff comprises of 500 employees and includes medical professionals, therapists, counselors, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses and nursing aides. MPTF experiences very low employee turnover. Earlier last year, there were negotiations regarding nurse patient ratio. The staffing levels mandated by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) on a daily basis is 1 caregiver for every 10 residents, MPTF maintains a staffing level of 1 caregiver to 7 residents. MPTF surrounds the core health care staff which improves on CDPH mandate with higher levels of ancillary staff like care coordinators, activities and social workers. The staffing challenges are to retain the current number of employees. Due to financial constraints, employees were asked to double their healthcare premiums and to accept a freeze in retirement contributions.
Opportunities and Threats
MPTF-UCLA has several opportunities in planning the programs, outreach, philanthropy and growth around five important factors. These causes will develop a framework to a current structure such as engaging the industry members in keeping themselves healthy, provide a safety net of support for those in the industry who need a helping hand and increase social engagement for industry seniors. MPTF will convene the entertainment community around challenging and relevant issues. One of the biggest threat in the industry is the survival. Although MPTF has a good reputation for providing high quality and compassionate care but one of the biggest threat is the changing healthcare system.
