Un Secretary General-Mr. Ki Moon Ban

...Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ki-moon Ban has demonstrated the leadership of resiliency, with which he was able to turn crisis into opportunities for his success. Moreover, Mr. Ban’s diligence, sincerity and warm-heartedness also contributed greatly to his rise, along with high performance capability. With such recognition, Mr. Ban successfully expanded his political network (both in Korea and in the organization of US) with apparent sincerity, great communication skill and sharp sociopolitical awareness. During the course of this paper, our group (“We”) will analyze and discuss how Mr. Ki-moon Ban used various situational conflicts as an opportunity to display and utilize his array of great characteristics to become the powerful leader. Prior to his political career, Mr. Ban’s childhood was deeply affected by the Korean War, which caused his family to migrate to different parts of Korea. Despite of such instability and uncertainty, Mr. Ban started to grow his intellectual curiosity of English. Even as a child, he liked to ask and speak with American soldiers, showing great resiliency. Such interactions and intellectual curiosity allowed Mr. Ban to be a star student in secondary school (especially in English), earning him an opportunity to meet John F. Kennedy as a winner of the Red Cross Competition for international students with proven academic excellence. Meeting the late John F. Kennedy also provided career motivation for Mr. Ban, pursuing the political career...

It was determined that we have five H ratings, researching the material to be used, stress test the material will be expensive, and building the first prototype carries a H rating on all three categories, Research, Implementation and funding. Our best material seems to be the spun aluminum and zinc coat. Our researchers found that from past lunar missions, made by the Lunar Rover, a material made spun from aluminum and zinc coated woven steel strands. Next, each hub will have a motor of its own, ran by an electric drive, with the wheels being completely independent from each other for all terrains. Replacing the wheels, we will have a clip release system. This scheme will make it easy for the operator, when wearing full gear and gloves, a simple clasp and hook which doesn’t require any tools. ...‘Secrets’ and ‘The Taste of Watermelon’ are two short stories that are worth comparing. The two stories have many things that are similar when seen from faraway but have points that differ from each other when looked closely. One main thing they both have in common are that they are both stories which an incident completely changes the relationships with an elder. The different things are that how the main character reacts to the action he does and how he thinks of it at the end. Between the two stories, the relationship with the elder is something that differs from each other. In ‘Secrets’ the main character is very close and familiar to the elder, in this story it is referred as ‘Great Aunt Mary’. There is one scene that significantly shows this; Her grandmother had given it to her as a brooch and she had had a ring made from it. He would try to count back to see how old it was. Had her grandmother got it from HER grandmother? And if so what had she turned it into? This shows the main character’s interest towards the aunt and a want to know even know about his mysterious aunt. After breaking promises with the aunt and reading the letter though, the main character and the elder’s relationship breaks and is never made up, or nobody tried to make it up. The main character regrets of his action, it is shown by him not saying anything to the insults the elder tells him, for example telling him that ‘you are dirt’. However, even though the elder ‘struck him across the side...

Ground Breaking Events

...All of the articles that I selected relate in that they are all ground breaking events that ultimately had a great impact on our history. They were the first of their time and in the majorify of situations, not in a positive way. To begin on a postive note, we begin with the first man to walk on the moon. Mr. Neal Armstrong was the first man to land on the moon on July 20, 1969. Millions of people were positioned in front of their televisions at home eagerly watching as Mr. Armsrong bounced along the moon carrying an American Flag before he planted it firmly in the Earth. People were in awe at the wonder of what he had done, he'd literally gone where no man had gone before. Fast forward to January 28, 1986 and we're at one of the first tragic events I will be covering in this paper. It's the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded some 70 seconds after take off. Once again millions of people were glued to their television to watch this shuttle take off on a new adventure to only be saddened by the deadly explosion shortly after take off. I don't know that people thought something like this could happen. I think this is one of the earliest most...

...sides have the same shapes and angles that I feel make this painting symmetrical. You can see easily that what was going on during this time this was painted had an influence on what figures he put in the background. This may not be a mirror image but I feel like it represent symmetrical balance. Next I decided to go next in line and hunted down a painting representing asymmetrical balance. After going back and forth with some I landed on Van Gogh, Starry Night, 1889. This one seems asymmetrical to me because it has the big broken tree on one side which represents the heavy single object and the town with the big moon on the other balancing it out. Even if you cut this in half you obviously can tell that they are different but together the way the moon draws your eyes and the dark shading on the castle brings them back makes it seemed balanced. Mr. Gogh might have done this to represent how he was feeling at the time. It is said in the book that he was in an asylum when he painted this. Maybe he had the broken tree representing himself because he felt...

Turn of the Screw

...home after the previous governess died. Douglas begins to read from the written record, and the story shifts to the governess’s point of view as she narrates her strange experience. The governess begins her story with her first day at Bly, the country home, where she meets Flora and a maid named Mrs. Grose. The governess is nervous but feels relieved by Flora’s beauty and charm. The next day she receives a letter from her employer, which contains a letter from Miles’s headmaster saying that Miles cannot return to school. The letter does not specify what Miles has done to deserve expulsion, and, alarmed, the governess questions Mrs. Grose about it. Mrs. Grose admits that Miles has on occasion been bad, but only in the ways boys ought to be. The governess is reassured as she drives to meet Miles. One evening, as the governess strolls around the grounds, she sees a strange man in a tower of the house and exchanges an intense stare with him. She says nothing to Mrs. Grose. Later, she catches the same man glaring into the dining-room window, and she rushes outside to investigate. The man is gone, and the governess looks into the window from outside. Her image in the window frightens Mrs. Grose, who has just walked into the room....

The Star

...character? To what extent is her final protest justified? How do the other characters portray themselves by their attitudes toward the ritual? Mrs. Tess Hutchinson stands out right from the start: she arrives at the lottery late. She explains to Mr. Summers that she was doing her dishes and forgot what day it was. The town treats her lateness lightly, but several people comment on it, “in voices just loud enough to be heard across the crowd, ‘Here comes your Missus, Hutchinson,’ and ‘ Bill, she made it after all.’” (Jackson 501). It is ironic that she is the one who wins the lottery, and is fated to be stoned. So Tess Hutchinson has already been noticed by people as one who is not entirely part of the group. Before the drawing she is friendly with the other women, pretending to be pleased to be present. The very moment that she sees is her family that draws the black dot, though, her egotism is evident. “You didn’t give him time enough to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn’t fair!” (Jackson 504). She continues to scream about the unfairness of the ritual up until her stoning. Mrs. Hutchinson knew the lottery was wrong, but she never did anything about it. She pretends as much as she could to enjoy it, when she truly hated it all along. Maybe Jackson is suggesting that the more hypocritical one is, the more of a target they are. Mrs. Hutchinson was clearly the target of her fears. I think sometimes we have no problem remarking on people’s adultery until it is ourselves that...

...May I beg that you will write at once to the mother of this unfortunate woman--to Mrs. Catherick--to ask for her testimony in support of the explanation which I have just offered to you?" I saw Miss Halcombe change colour, and look a little uneasy. Sir Percival's suggestion, politely as it was expressed, appeared to her, as it appeared to me, to point very delicately at the hesitation which her manner had betrayed a moment or two since. I hope, Sir Percival, you don't do me the injustice to suppose that I distrust you," she said quickly. "Certainly not, Miss Halcombe. I make my proposal purely as an act of attention to YOU. Will you excuse my obstinacy if I still venture to press it?" He walked to the writing-table as he spoke, drew a chair to it, and opened the paper case. "Let me beg you to write the note," he said, "as a favour to ME. It need not occupy you more than a few minutes. You have only to ask Mrs. Catherick two questions. First, if her daughter was placed in the Asylum with her knowledge and approval. Secondly, if the share I took in the matter was such as to merit the expression of her gratitude towards myself? Mr. Gilmore's mind is at ease on this unpleasant subject, and your mind is at ease—pray set my mind at ease also by writing the note." "You oblige me to grant your request, Sir Percival, when I would much rather refuse it." With those words Miss Halcombe rose from her place and went to the writing-table. Sir Percival thanked her, handed her a...

...He went to where Miss Mijares sat, a tall, big man, walking with an economy of movement, graceful and light, a man who knew his body and used it well. He sat in the low chair worn decrepit by countless other interviewers and laid all ten fingerprints carefully on the edge of her desk. She pushed a sheet towards him, rolling a pencil along with it. While he read the question and wrote down his answers, she glanced at her watch and saw that it was ten. "I shall be coming back quickly," she said, speaking distinctly in the dialect (you were never sure about these people on their first visit, if they could speak English, or even write at all, the poor were always proud and to use the dialect with them was an act of charity), "you will wait for me." As she walked to the cafeteria, Miss Mijares thought how she could easily have said, Please wait for me, or will you wait for me? But years of working for the placement section had dulled the edges of her instinct for courtesy. She spoke now peremtorily, with an abruptness she knew annoyed the people about her. When she talked with the jobless across her desk, asking them the damning questions that completed their humiliation, watching pale tongues run over dry lips, dirt crusted handkerchiefs flutter in trembling hands, she was filled with an impatience she could not understand. Sign here, she had said thousands of times, pushing the familiar form across, her finger held to a line, feeling the impatience grow at sight of the man...

Missed Appt

...Article 86 of the Uniform Code Of Military Justice. This Article covers Point and Place of Duty. That means from PT formation to COB that is where you will be. What a lot of Soldiers do not understand that includes appointments made by them or someone else. We have appointment times, SP times, formation times and many other start times that dictate we will be there. If a Convoy has an SP time of fifteen hundred hours and the Soldiers decide to show up late because they did not feel like getting ready on time people could die. If they rolled out on time, they may have avoided the ambush or avoided the Vbid that hit them in the bottleneck. It sounds extreme but time management plays a critical role in the Army. When you make an appointment that spot has been reserved for you. That means if you have been given the last slot someone else is going to have to wait for another one to open up. This could be one day or one month. And because you missed it someone else is still going to have to wait when they could have had that spot and been there. If you are going to miss the appointment or cannot make it due to mission they do allow us to cancel the appointment with in twenty four hours. The Army allows us to make appointments for whatever we need. Be it for a medical appointment, house goods, CIF, Smoking Sensation or whatever we need these recourses are available to us. But when Soldiers start missing appointments theses systems start to become inefficient. What a lot of Soldiers do...

Solar Warden

...John Doe Mrs. Jane Doe ENG101-01 05 Feb. 2014 America is full of odd stories and gossip that never seems to end. They are all told millions of ways and lately they seem to get extremely complicated and ever changing. Lately since the closing of NASA there have be tells of the government secretly still using NASA with help from other extreme science advances to explore the universe. The Solar Warden was born shortly after the closing of NASA in 2010 (NASA Decline and Antigravity Space Fleet."). But lately more and more independent researchers have been looking into the story of the Solar Warden. People have become boggled with questions about the phenomenon of the Solar Warden, but no definite answers have been released of the situation. According to news I ate out the Reporter for the Huffington Post, the secret Solar Warden has been kept hidden from the public since the 1980s (Perks). In 2010 reporter Darren Perks conducted at freedom of information request with the United States Department of Defense, but only ended up with an email stating, "About an hour ago I spoke to a NASA rep who confirmed this was their program and that it was terminated by the President. He also informed me that it was not a joint program with the Department of Defense." (Perks). But statements by Perks also includes that the Solar Warden also operated under the control of the United Nations (Perks). Most of Perks facts come from Gary McKinnon got him a big dick, who hacked into the...

It followed her big hit: her role in Tomb Raider, where she had to master a British accent. She had to become familiar with kick-boxing, street-fighting, yoga and ballet.
