Music Essay: My Favorite Place To England

Sitting on the front porch of his small house on the beaches of the Isle of Mann, my grandfather, Davy, plays his “Gibson ES-335” guitar without an amplifier. The trees blow in the wind as Davy continues to play, uninterrupted by anything in this world. This isle is just off the coast of England and has so much culture and beauty. I’ve only been to this place once, and while we were there we visited many of the great places in England, but that was when I was very young so I do not remember much about it. One day I hope to revisit that place to experience the music, the food, and just the way of life of the people who actually live out there. I wish to have a life like my grandfather Davy did one day. A life where I do not have a worry in the world, a life where I can just sit on the beaches and play my music. My grandfather died one day, not too long after our visit, but sometimes if I close my eyes, and listen closely, I can still hear his guitar playing in the cool breeze, as the waves …show more content…
Some of my favorite artists are from there, such as Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. England is also one of the biggest places for my favorite genre of music, the blues. It has a whole lot of blues clubs that some of the greatest guitarist in the world had played at. It would be a dream come true to go to some of them and just enjoy the wonderful music and just hang out. But, the best scenario that could happen is if I could somehow, someway, play at one of those clubs and just have a great time. That would be one of the most amazing act I could ever do, in my mind, at least. Davy actually used to play at some of these clubs, everybody loved the type of music he played a blend of jazz and blues. Also, like I mentioned earlier, while I’m visiting, I would be ecstatic if I could just sit on the beaches and play my guitar, without a worry in the world, just like

This film was released in 2000 with Russell Crowe who is a method style actor, as the lead actor, Starring as Maximus. Maximus was the favorite general of Caesar Marcus Aurelius played by Richard Harris. After defeating the German Barbarians, general Maximus only dreamed of returning home to his wife and son to live a simply life tending to his crops, and leave behind his life as a respected general. After defeating the German barbarians, and with his health failing Caesar decides to appoint Maximus as the protector of Rome and wishes to pass all of his powers as Caesar to Maximus, on the condition that Maximus restores Rome to its former glory, then returning all power to the senate. Commodus, who is played by Joaquin Phoenix who is also a method actor, is a spoiled self indulged aristocrat that believed Caesar would name him as his successor. Commodus kills Caesar and takes the title of Caesar and orders his soldiers to kill Maximus and his family. Maximus escapes, wounded, only to return home to find that Commodus’ soldiers beat him there and slain his wife and son. He awakes to find himself captured to be sold as a slave to Proximo, played by the late Oliver Reed. ...The 1960s was a decade filled with change. It started out with optimism among America’s youth that was unprecedented in history. Before too long headlines of civil rights, university reform, pacifist movement against the Vietnam War, women’s rights, and sexual liberation were made and the “Camelot” vision was quickly shattered. America’s youth began to revolt against the establishment and the foregone conclusion that they would adopt the lifestyle of their parents. In ten short years societal norms were turned completely around. Never before had change happened so quickly or been driven by the same group. This rapid change is breathtaking, considering most young people are generally naïve and disinterested in events outside their immediate scope. I have therefore decided to investigate what role the media played in the youth revolutions of the 1960s. This paper will identify media’s influence in driving change and analyze relationships between media, specific historical events, and the reaction of America’s youth. This will be achieved by looking at both primary and secondary sources to determine how much influence the media played in manipulating America’s youth via songs, marketing, and select writings. The media industry’s reaction to the social and technological upheavals of the twentieth century was to encapsulate the mantra “youth as fun” and sell it to America’s teens. .
