MY 30TH BIRTHDAY My 30th birthday was unique because it served as my wedding engagement night; as a result, I gained more respect from my family and colleagues. My parents celebrated my birthday with me for the first time since I became adult .This was because I had lived with my uncle James in a different city since I was 14. I couldn’t have chosen a different venue for my birthday party because my family’s house has a lot of square feet (field) that could host a sizable party of 30-40 persons. My parents were honored to be the special gusts since it has been a long time since they celebrated my birthday with me. Dave, my colleague was the speaker of the occasion, and he used the opportunity to introduce the guests to my parents. In return, the guests described my parents as the most wonderful parents they had ever seen. My engagement party started immediately after cutting my birthday cake. Everybody, including family members, was surprised when Dave the speaker started a second order of events and announced my wedding engagement party. My girlfriend could not hold her joy as tears ran down her face and she nodded her head in approval. She quickly excused herself and gave her mom a quick call announcing to her family that she had been engaged to me. Her family was happy and gave their support. Friends and family were thankful for our engagement after ten years of our dating. Out of joy and excitement, a wedding committee was formed by colleagues with my mom appointed as the event manager. My mom did not show any sign of disapproval because she had done it for my two older brothers. I gained more respect among colleagues and family members because they felt that I was becoming more responsible for taking such a bold step. Two of my friends took after me and did the same, and we all wedded in the same

Quentin Tarantino and His American Dream

...result of his hatred of school, he soon became a truant and his mother decided it would be better for him not to go and she know where he is, rather than he not go and her not know where he was, so she allowed him to drop out when he was sixteen years old and still in the ninth grade (Dawson 22). Still a child, Tarantino entered the work force. After Quentin dropped out of school he held various jobs. His first job was ushering at the Pussycat Theatre when he was sixteen (Dawson 22). While working there he began to take acting classes (Dawson 23). However, he soon quit the class. The reason he quit was because he wanted to become a director after he realized that actors have little control over their destiny, he thought directors did: "My favorite actors were...

Nature of Thought

...Nature of Thought Nature of Thought Thinking is a very complex process of the brain. Many factors contribute to thinking. Thinking can include reasoning, remembering experiences, and making rational decisions. Thinking involves an individual's subjective consciousness. Thinking includes use of cognition, sentience, consciousness, and imagination. Sense can lead to thinking which can lead to thoughts which can allow a person to express their needs, attachments, objectives, plans, commitments, and desires. Humans think it includes many steps. “I observe and I plan and I think and I strategize” (Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007). The sensing process is the ability to sense something based on one or all of your 5 senses. “There is nothing in the mind unless it is first in the senses” (Kirby & Goodpaster, 2007). Our most important senses for thinking is seeing and hearing. Based on our reading our senses do not operate effectively when we are sick, drowsy, or tired. Senses are the reason we have thoughts. Memory is the processes by which information is encoded, stored, and retrieved and subsequently recall information and past experiences. Memory gives us the capability to learn and adapt from previous experiences as well as to build relationships. ...Memoirs 4.1 One of my most inspiring and influential person to me would be my mother. A lot of people come to mind when asked that question. But, I don’t think anyone could have been more influential to me other than her. For as long as I can remeber, what ever idea or motive I had she inspired me to do it. She always made sure I followed my dreams and never let anyone stop me, even her. My mother has three degrees and was a single mother sending me to a private school she really couldn’t afford. She always strived for better and more which drives me to do the same. One year, a bright and sunny day ;and my birthday at the time, my mom told me she could not get me anything for my birthday that year. She was low on money and bills had to be paid. She already taught me the lesson “business first, pleasure later’. So I understood the situation and hoped for a better tomorrow. She seen my attitude towards the situation and replied with a smile of joy and relief. It made me feel good to see my mother relieved and happy with my reply. Later on during the following month of August; because my birthday is July 30th, she surprised me even better than a regular birthday gift. She said, ‘usually kids get fussy when they can’t get anything for their birthday and you didn’t. I thank and respect you for that.’And from that I learned the lesson to just be grateful for what you have. She also taught and inspired me to always be loving, kind, and respectful. Everywhere my mother goes she is...

Project Management Fundamentals

...Assignment Two topics that were cover in Fundamentals of Project Management that I have actually already started to apply to my personal life are the Work Breakdown Structure and Risk Management. Both are extremely useful skills that I have already applied to my everyday life and will continue to use. I am actually implementing both of these topics on a surprise 30th anniversary party for my parent that will take place on May 09, 2015. The first skill or tool that I will discuss is the Work Breakdown Structure. When I first started planning the surprise party for my parents’ 30th anniversary, I quickly realized that I was going to need a lot of help to be able to make it a successful event and also to surprise them. My first step was to break down the deliverables for the party. I categorized the deliverable under Food and Drinks, Seating and Tableware, Guest Invitation, Decoration and Hosting. I quickly recruited my brother and a few of my aunts and cousins to assist me with the planning and preparation. After I had the deliverables categorized I started creating tasks to ensure that each deliverable was completed. I assigned the tasks based on everyone’s skill set. Using the Work Breakdown Structure has made this planning process infinitely more organized. The second skill that I have also been using for the planning of my parents’ surprise 30th anniversary party is Risk Management. One of the biggest risks that I faced when I began planning this event was the surprise...

Humorous Wedding Speech: Is He Really A Husband Material?

...one”. You know that a lifetime commitment should not be taken lightly. The question is, is he really a husband material? Ever since I was a little girl, I created a world of knowing how my husband looks like. I made a list: handsome, smart, tall, rich, romantic, built… The list went on and on. The truth is, I didn’t know what was important in a husband. I dated several guys that satisfied all of my requirements. Yet, I did not want to marry them. Gradually, I started cluing in to what really matters. If you’ve ever been in a serious and long relationship before you are not likely to be alien to what I’m talking about. The feelings and affection grow to a point and new habits start coming up. You start wondering if he is originating these habits or they were hidden before. Quarrels take days to get settled, no breakfast in bed, he starts thinking of you as a washing machine, he keeps you at home and he goes out to nurture his manhood with alcohol and sometimes other girls I presume and his useless...

Personal Narrative: Mr. Boddy's Murder

...Mr. Boddy’s Murder It was early evening on Friday the 13th 1971 when I got the call. It was Mr. Boddy and he was inviting me to his 30th birthday party at his mansion. I have had a grudge against Mr. Boddy for the past couple of years because he got away with murdering my dog and stealing my car, so I saw this as the perfect opportunity to get him back. When it was almost time for the party I put on my shoes, threw on my jacket, grabbed my pistol, and jumped in my car. When I got into my car, I hid the pistol so no one would know that I had a weapon. After hiding the pistol in a safe place, I drove off and headed to Mr. Boddy’s mansion. When I pulled up to the haunted and scary looking mansion there was someone who was standing...

I have been here since December (due to PCS in 2013). I try to get out and do things when I can but working on the staff is tough (very time consuming). So far I have been to the Big Island (for my 30th birthday), and the island of Kauai (completed the 17 mile kayaking tour off the Napali Coast). Have you been to any of those islands? It would appear that your siblings have the military bug as well. Let me tell you, I have nothing but respect for my brothers and sisters in uniform. The brave few will stand up to protect the many. Duty then is the most sublime word in the English language. We should do our duty in all things. You can never do more; you should never wish to do less. If your sister has any questions about the Air Force in general, or the Officer lifestyle, I would be happy to assist. What career field is she planning to get into? You are definitely making the smart choice by choosing to strengthen/enhance the skills you already have. Some people are so unsure of where they ultimately want to end up, and wander around aimlessly trying to figure it out. My advice is...

Essay on Hindsight

...thinks or behaves altogether. Such was the case with me, when an incident on the 30th of October, 2012, changed the way I drove. It was my birthday. The day had been going well except the few delays before the party at Boat Club. I was anxiously waiting for nightfall since quite a few of my old friends were turning up this time: most of them were studying abroad and it had been a while since I had met them. The celebrations were under way by half past nine and a couple of hours later, the guests had started to leave. By the time everyone had left, it was a quarter to twelve and my best friend was the only one left since I had to drop him home on my way back. It was late and my parents had started calling my phone so we rushed out and into my car. The roads were quiet and empty since it was past midnight on a weekday. I was driving over the speed limit. I distinctly remember my friend telling me to slow down, and, using the phrase “better late than never”. I turned towards him, looking at his face over the rim of my glasses, and said “don’t worry, you know how I drive. I’ve got this!” I had been driving for a few years so I was confident about myself but what soon followed shattered all my confidence and courage since after that night. The car was going at a 100 km/hr and just when I crossed Pizza Hut at the Mai Kolachi – Boat basin intersection, a man came running on to the road and on seeing my car approaching him, stopped, trying to go back. I barely had a couple of seconds...

Both the groceries and picture frame purchases were mandatory. From the grocery bill, $20.00 was a purchase from Wal-Mart for a box of chicken. The specific reason why I purchased the brand of chicken from Wal-Mart rather than any other store is because after evaluating different brands of boxed chicken this brand from Wal-Mart gives me more quantity for a cheaper price and the quality is more satisfactory to me. The extended problem solving for me ended up making my satisfactory level higher, and also made my budget a lot easier to organize. The rest of the grocery bill was spent at Sobeys. Reason being is because it was spontaneous shopping. Since only doing groceries last week and the box of chicken was purchased because of a shortage at home, the purchase was not mandatory but ended up being a surprise for even myself. Sobeys had sales on food that I regularly purchase at No Frills at the time being, so I decided to take advantage of the opportunity presented...

Life Line

I think that some of the differences are due to the era that we were each brought up in and what is considered to be the norm for that time frame. Most of the life events that we all three experienced are normative events, such as getting married, having a job, moving out of our parents’ house, and having children. In addition to the normative events, there are also some nonnormative events. These include divorce, going to college later in life, and not finishing high school. A difference between the three of us is the education level. My grandmother was expected to quit school so she was able to take care of her house and her children. My mother finished high school and then got a job right away. A lot jobs did not require a college education back then. Even though I did not start college until I was in my...

Halloween

...really surprised me how much I have learnt from this course in just a short period of time and I am still eager to learn more of the interesting, awkward and weird story and also watch more videos related to the course. Considering the fact that I am not anthropology major my interest in the course is just so amazing and impressive to me. I am really happy I chose this course to fulfill my GE units. I started this fieldwork with a question in mind. What is Halloween? As far as I have observed, I have come to a conclusion that Halloween can be said to be generally about ghost and the spirit of the dead. it's a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries amongst certain group of people on the October 31st. the typical festive Halloween activity include trick-or-treating, costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories and watching horror and scary films. Out of the listed typical festive Halloween activities, I participated in quite a good number of them and it was pretty good being the first time for me to observe Halloween and attend Halloween activities. Before I started my Halloween with my family, I had the opportunity to speak to some new people I met concerning the event (Halloween). speaking with them made me see and realize that some people most especially the extremely rich people that are really confused of what to do with money spend so much on Halloween...
