My Accomplishment In High School

As a freshman in high school, I have very few accomplishments as of now, but I hope that will change throughout my life. Besides achieving decent grades in school, I don’t really invest my time in anything productive and life changing. Although my life seems to lack meaning at this point, I’m satisfied with it because it is fun and interesting. A small accomplishment on a test or in a class won’t impact me in the grand scheme of my lifetime. However, if I must choose one, the most fulfilling accomplishment of mine was securing an internship. In the summer of 8th grade, I had very little activities planned, and I spent most of the first few weeks at home, doing nothing of importance. The days blended into weeks in my never-ending marathon of video games and occasional eating …show more content…
Eventually, I began to construct an application that basically took in the website’s link and returned the desired information. However, it wasn’t exactly perfect (and functional), so I corresponded with the instructor in charge to work out all the bugs. Finally, when it was complete, I uploaded it to GitHub so that my instructor could view it. That summer was stressful and hectic, but I got the satisfaction of knowing that I overcame that particular obstacle. In conclusion, I turned my summer into a productive one, and created an application that could help other people. It was a long and terrible journey, but I regret nothing. This project was the first one that I had to struggle with for a long time before overcoming it. It taught me that some things will need dedication and perseverance to succeed, and these things can’t be solved in a few days and be done with forever. Although this accomplishment will bolster my college application and make me look like a well rounded student, the lesson that I’m taking away is more valuable than any of

Torbots Accomplishment

...I have found my most important accomplishment to be my assumption of the presidential position in my high school’s robotics team, TorBots. As president of TorBots, I have made a difference in my school through the diligent support of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) education. I have grown very proud of this accomplishment for it has changed me to become socially outgoing, innovative, hardworking, and effective at teaching. My connections through FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and my presidency in TorBots have also led me to FLL (FIRST Lego League), an organization in which I volunteer, teaching middle school students the basic fundamentals of Engineering. Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC)

...government funded program present in high schools. The JROTC program offers great opportunities to assist high school students in building their educational attainment and career achievement. The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, better known as JROTC is a youth development program for high school students implemented by the Department of Defense. JROTC delivers a character and leadership improvement curriculum to high school students enrolled in the program, which are known as cadets. Since JROTC is supervised and guided by retired members of the armed forces many people are of the mistaken opinion that JROTC is a program to convince students into enlisting in the military. The fact is that less than 30% of students in the program enlist in the military. The main purpose of the JROTC program is to inspire students to obtain the value of citizenship, service to our country, personal responsibility, and a sense...

... Essay Question #1 Explain how your past accomplishments have prepared you for the W. P. Carey MBA. “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” A famous saying from the movie Forrest Gump pretty much describes my situation. In my earlier life, I never thought I would come to US for my master of engineering, work as an electrical engineer at Force10networks (it was acquired by DELL recently), and now pursue an MBA. My past accomplishments that have prepared me for the W.P. Carey MBA include teaching mathematics in Taiwan, coming to US to improve myself, earning my engineering masters at the University of Arizona, and working as electrical design engineer at force10networks. Before I came to US, I had taught mathematics from high school level to college calculus for seven years. The reason that I like teaching is I like to sense students’ issues of learning mathematics. I like to communicate with them, and to help them succeed in achieving their mathematics grades. The teaching experience made me learn to listen to students’ needs, to develop an efficient and easy way for students to learn mathematics, and to become a good mentor. As I believe, having the ability to sense people’s needs and to develop a solution to make people happy made me a popular and successful teacher in Taiwan. At that time; I was satisfied with my...

Success

...SUCCESS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS Success isn’t just about accomplishment. It’s also about how the things we do in our lives motivate & inspire others to do something motivating & inspiring in theirs. It’s about helping people you come in contact with. It’s about making other people’s lives better for having been a part of it. It’s about making a positive difference, no matter how small. Success has a lot more to do with what isn’t immediately visible than it does with trophies, awards, wealth, or material things. Every person is thinking different about being prosperous in life and is defining success in another way, so there can´t exist a definition that is suitable for all. It is somewhat like how we mean success based on our own goal and objective. The bottom line is that we should know exactly how to define success in life. There should be an awareness of what success and accomplishment in general means. I define success as the opposite of failure, the status of having achieved and accomplished a goal or objective. Being successful means the achievement of desired visions and planned goals. To some and is more common success can be a certain social status that describes a prosperous person that could also have gained fame for its favorable outcome. The dictionary describes success as the following: “attaining wealth, prosperity and/or fame”. Other people define success as having luxurious cars and a huge mansion, whereas others consider a life full of joy and happiness...

Personal Narrative: Del Rio Elementary School

...attended Del Rio Elementary School from kindergarten to fourth grade and Buena Vista Elementary School from fifth to sixth grade. Towards the end of sixth grade, my friends and I talked a lot about junior high. Sadly, I had to go to a different junior high than them, which was Tevis. I had heard that junior high was much harder than elementary school and was more confusing. I was very concerned about having different classes and having to find them because I felt that I would be late on the first day. During my first week, Tevis was scary to me. After a few days, I was used to Tevis and it wasn’t so scary anymore. Junior was way different than I expected. I found junior high much easier than elementary school. It wasn’t confusing at all. The most difficult classes I had were seventh and eighth grade math, my math teachers were Mrs. Hartnett and Mrs. Fritzen. The way they taught, to me, was very confusing and I hardly understood the math. After a few days, I began to not do the math homework due to frustration and stress. I met my mathematical challenge by asking for more help from my teachers....

English Essay

...As a child growing up, my mother and father were both teachers, my mom a kindergarten teacher and my dad a visually impaired teacher. I can remember every night before bed how both of my parents would read stories to my sister and I so we could fall asleep. From kindergarten on I learned to read and write simple words such as; the, this, and why. Learning to read and write was one of the most exciting things for me as a child. Knowing that I could do something that everyone else already could, and being quite good at it for my age. Considering that my mother knew all the tricks to teaching and knew how I would best be able to learn from her, I eventually was able to pronounce and spell harder words than the other children in my class. From then on I “blossomed” as a writer and reader in all of my classes. Once a week our class would get to visit the library and our librarian would always pick a few children that were a little more advanced to help the others choose books appropriate for their reading level. I was one of those lucky children and it was a huge accomplishment for me. Another memory I can recall from my childhood is from a family dinner one night; as the five of us sat there, I noticed my older brother wearing this green shirt with large white lettering across the front of it. As everyone began to eat I blurted out the word on his shirt. Although I can’t remember what it was now, I do remember being ecstatic that I could read a word so complicated. Everyone at...

Developing a Motivational Plan

...Plan Grand Canyon University: EDA 575 7-6-11 Developing a Motivational Plan A motivation plan for any school is extremely important for the success of any educational program. Students who are not motivated will not learn and in turn won't succeed. Many components should be included in a motivational plan so that all the needs of students are met and each student has goals that are attainable and can be reached. According to Hersey (2008), "Goals should be set high enough that a person has to stretch to reach them but low enough that they can be attained." Goal setting, rewards, both tangible and non-tangible, and a sense of belonging are motivational components that should be included in a motivational plan. The first part of a motivational plan that I would feel essential for my school would be goal setting. At the current school that I work at, I feel like this is a missing part of our motivational plan and it greatly affects our students. Without goals, the students don't know what they are working towards, this creates confusion and a detachment from the meaning of education. Although some students may set personal goals, I feel like it's important for there to be group goals so that the students can work together to achieve them and be more motivated. Goals should be set high, but not so high that students can't achieve them. Goals that are too high would do the opposite of motivate, it would create despair and students would give up eventually because they would...

Lance Berkman

...Robby Walker English 100 11/15/15 Lance Berkman Lance Berkman is my idol. In my opinion he is one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He played for the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, and New York Yankees. He has the most home runs by a switch hitter in Major League Baseball History. A switch hitter is someone who can hit from the right and left side of the plate. Berkman was well known for being a class act and a stand up gut in the Houston community. He now coaches for a baseball team in Houston, which is a branch off of my Major Kinesiology. Kinesiology is a huge, broad field you can do so many things off of this major, such as, Coach, Therapists, and teacher. Lance Berkman started his career late and that’s because he played in the Major League for 13 seasons. Now, he is in my field of study and he coaches and teaches now. Berkman played baseball at Canyon High School, Berkman then attended Rice University, where he played college baseball for the Rice Owls. He was named the 1997 National College Player of the Year. The Houston Astros selected Berkman in the first round of the 1997 MLB Draft, and he debuted in MLB for the Astros in 1999. Berkman was one of the Astros' "Killer B's" in the mid-2000s, along with Jeff Bagwell, Carlos Beltran, Craig Biggio, and Derek Bell. The Astros traded Berkman to the Yankees at the 2010 trade deadline. He spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the Cardinals, and the 2013 season with the Rangers...

Personal Narrative: My High School Swim Team

...An accomplishment in my life that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood was when I made the hard decision to quit competitive dancing and join my high school swim team. My entire life had revolved around competitive dancing from first grade all the way through elementary school and middle school. Letting go of dance and moving on to bigger and hopefully better things was the hardest decision I ever made. It was nerve racking to move from dance, a stage of my life I had become very comfortable in, to the swim team, something I knew absolutely nothing about. But I knew it was all worth my while when I won the team spirit award. Like most three year old girls, my mother signed me up for dance classes. I loved dancing, and my dance teacher must have thought I was very good. Three years later, my mom opened a letter in the mail asking me to be on my studio’s competition team. I competed on a team of about ten girls. We learned a few dances to perfection and competed them a few times each spring. I did this for nine years all the way through the my freshman year....

...was a member of the most important club at my high school and that was the Renaissance Program. The Renaissance Program is a leadership committee in a high school setting to promote achievement and success throughout the school. I joined when we first started the committee and that was when I was a freshman in high school. I am certainly the person I am today because of this committee. As a member I learned how to become a leader, travel throughout the states, and become friends with amazing people. Leadership is what I learned as I enjoyed my four years of being a committee member for The Renaissance Program. Some people see leadership as simply someone who people follow, or as someone who guides or directs others. Well I see leadership as organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal. Leadership is also a social influence enlisted by a person to support others in an accomplishment. As the Renaissance Program grew I was one of the main members, making me feel welcoming. As the four years went on I became more and more of a leader due to the actions I was making on the committee. These actions include getting students and teachers involved in the committee and outside the committee. I was in charge of different Rallies throughout the years to help promote our Program. Rallies would involve teachers and students and different activities that were performed in front of the whole school.
