My First Family Vacation to Dubai Going on vacation as a family is one of my favorite things to do. Up until this point, I never had the chance to go on vacation with my husband because his date never matched ours. But in July 2013, we finally could vacation together as a family and chose to go to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) for one week. First, we took the plane to Atlanta and there we took another one to Dubai. The flight was 13 hours long and luckily, we were upgraded to first class. It was very comfortable and the seats could be reclined to be a shape of a bed and there were multiple choices of food. It was great. The flight didn’t have any turbulence. We departed at about 10:00 p.m. and we arrived at about 6:00 p.m. local time at Dubai International Airport. The time difference between the USA and Dubai is eight hours. After the immigration process, we went outside to get a taxi to bring us to our hotel. The first thing we noticed was the thermal reading of that region. It was really hot outside (about 110 degrees Fahrenheit), and when I asked why it was so hot, someone told me it was because Dubai was built in the desert and April through December are the hottest months.

Then, we checked into the Auris Hotel that is near the Burj Al Khalifa, which is the tallest building in the world and the most amazing. This is a very popular area and quite crowded on weekends. Dubai’s weekends are Friday and Saturday. The second

...than any concrete gain, which sets people on the move leaving such reasons aside however there are other clear cut motives for migration. I am Robert Dominic D. Gonzales a proud son of an Overseas Filipino Worker. I was born and raised in the Philippines. Ever since I was a child, I have always been going here in Dubai during summer vacations and for the reason that my father works in here. My father has been here in Dubai for almost 18 years, working, striving hard for our family. Moving on permanently here in Dubai was a decision made by our parents. This decision was influenced by the fact wherein a tragedy happened in our house. An inside robbery on the dawn of the day was the sole reason that triggered my parents to make an early decision for all of us to migrate and stay here in Dubai for the better. With Dubai’s vast culture and rapid globalization taking place, it was quite a hard task for me to adjust. But the good thing in here is that wherever I go, I can see Filipinos. Seeing them made me feel like I am home and this resulted for the easier transition of my life here in Dubai. Being respectful to the religion and culture of the Arabs was the first thing that our father taught us when we arrived in here. One of the things that were new to me that time was the practice of doing fasting on the day of Ramadan wherein the Muslims are not allowed to eat until Iftar. Globalization is increasing. More and more people are choosing to move from one country to...

Personal Narrative: My Trip To Guatemala

...Guatemala and Dubai?”, is something you might ask. Well, they both bring wonderful warm weather. You can do so many activities like swimming and bike riding. If you live in a place that has bad weather you should take a vacation to these places. I chose Dubai and Guatemala. I chose Guatemala because I admire the historic background it has. Even though you're on a vacation you can still learn something . I chose Dubai because I like the fact that the city uses technology to lead its life. Also that it is so advanced in using technology. Now I had to plan my trip. First, I picked the flight and made a map plan for what I was doing. Then, I calculated the price of everything. Then, I found out more info about what the city facts are. I had shirts and shorts. I had sandals. I had some of my electronics. I had hats and a gigantic water bottle. Last, I had brought sunscreen and bathing suits. I also brought hygiene products to get ready in the morning. I woke up in the morning. I am excited for what I was about to do...

Leading People in Organizations

...INDIVIDUAL LPO REPORT – PIRATE DEV When I started the LPO class at IE, one thing that clearly struck me was that how dependent are we to achieve our goals and vision. The IWWEG framework led me into thinking what I can do to achieve the visions that I have had since childhood. With this in my mind, I started working on a kind of a blueprint on my getting to that vision. Let me elaborate step by step. I – From the time I have come into existence in this physical dimension, my curiosity has been to understand why am I here? What did I come for? A long time was spent in understanding this existence. Did I come for just living and dying? Do I wake up everyday, have food, go to work, make money, make love, have kids, buy properties, become sick, and then die? Too depressive…this can’t be the reason for being here. There has to be something else. There has to be some purpose for which I have taken birth in this physical form. I now have realized that I would like to establish a co-operative mechanism, which would help people gain life skills that, would help them successful as leaders, husbands/wives, fathers/mothers, brothers/sisters etc. How do I achieve this? This leads to the next step. WE – Fortunately or unfortunately, we are dependent beings. Not just with other human beings but with everything around us. We need air to breather, the sun to give us life, water to drink, cows to give milk, animals to give us food. Every purpose in this world requires support from some...

Managing a Global Team: Greg James at Sun Microsystems, Inc.

...Managing a Global Team: Greg James at Sun Microsystems, Inc. (A) Greg James, a global manager at Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Sun), slumped on the edge of his bed in the company’s corporate flat in Paris. He struggled to even move after only three hours of sleep. James had embarked on this unexpected trip from Sun’s Santa Clara, California, headquarters six days earlier. With only a few hours’ notice, he had set out to meet with his entire 45-member customer implementation team spread across India, France, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United States (US). He had already met with his team members in the US, India, and the UAE. France was his final stop before heading home. For the second time, the team had failed to respond promptly to a customer system outage as required by a service contract agreement. James had begun this trip assuming he would find a swift resolution to the rapidly escalating customer situation that had motivated it. Unfortunately, that had not been the case. James knew that if he could just make it to the gym, exercise would invigorate him and clear his head: “Five more minutes and then I’ll go.” Twenty minutes later, still in his room, he grabbed his laptop and launched his e-mail. Re: HS Holdings James scanned his inbox, reliving the events that had plunged him into this predicament. Six days earlier, he had received a string of e-mails, forwarded to him by his team. ...and Roy experienced a business set back when they found their film distributor M.J. Winkler had stolen their cartoon characters and animators in attempt to undercut them. With the help from their chief and loyal animator, Ub Iwerks, Walt created Mortimer Mouse, which was renamed Mickey Mouse by his wife. The first cartoon with synchronized sound was released at the Colony Theater in New York, November 18, 1928. Walt Disney won its first Academy Award for Best Cartoon in 1932 and continued to be honored with an Oscar every year for a decade. Walt Disney consumer products started when Walt and Roy accepted $300.00 from a man that insisted Mickey should be applied to paper towels for school children. The company became public in 1940 and followed with the release of five successful feature films, including Snow White, Fantasia, Pinocchio, Bambi and Dumbo. In turn they revolutionized animation forever. In 1955, the first of many Disneyland theme parks were opened. At the same time, television became a new, huge, and successful avenue for its fans.
