I hope this email finds you well. I am building the portfolio of my first internship field placement and off book knowledge because the second field placement supervisor refused to give me clients. She was dealing with major issues from the office where she hired me to work. Therefore, I ended up working in her private practice instead of where she hired me to work. After she took too long to give me my assignment (s) I asked her when she was going to give me clients. She stated I did not qualified to see clients. Consequently, I was going to find another placement. However, when I called my field liaison she told me it was too late to look for a new place. Myself, field liaison and the supervisor had a phone conference and she told the field

...areas needed work and what areas could be considered my strengths (Garthwait, 2014). Having been in college for the last seven years, and being familiar with how I learn both in and out of a classroom setting, I was not surprised when it came to answering questions in the General Work Skills and Knowledge sections of the self-assessment. The only area that I had a work in-progress for the General Work Skills section is when it comes to writing reports. I felt this was a work in-progress, because I have a very limited knowledge base of how to do this when...

High School Band Experience Essay

...One of the best experiences I had was being in the Rummel/Chapelle Band program for all of high school. Doing band is the best decision I made. Every year we begin with marching season. The band creates a field show ever year and performs that field show during football halftime. Also we go to many different marching competition throughout the beginning of school. We also do a veteran's day concert and Christmas concert every year. After the first semester of school we go into my favorite part of band the spring season. Every year we audition for our chair placement in the concert band. My first year I audition and got second chair I was so happy because it was my first year in the band. I also audition for junior high honor band and made...

...labour market which simply means ‘the demand is for graduate level jobs, for which the jobseeker must have an undergraduate degree.’ According to Done and Mulvey (2011 p.5) ‘The basic principle of the graduate labour market is that two equally important elements must be in place for the market to work, namely: supply and demand.’ The market place for graduate employment is vast, and there are a number of different opportunities in all disciplines available for students who have just finished university and are seeking graduate employment. There are various websites and publications that are specifically targeted towards graduates by only advertising vacancies from companies who are offering graduate positions. Websites such as Rate My Placement are a good online source to use as they list the top 75 employees for graduate opportunities. The Times (2013) also list the top 100 graduate employers which are updated on a yearly. However, according to The Independent (2011) the number of graduates applying for each job has doubled since 2009, making it harder for graduates to find a post-graduate job. Although the number of available jobs in the UK is slowly increasing, figures have revealed that the largest employers now receive on average 83 CVs for each job vacancy that they have, with some top companies receiving as many as 150 applications per job. The graduate market has shown...

Nursing Internship Essay

...During my first year I had the opportunity to work with children, families, and elderly populations. My first internship started at California Children’s Academy where I provided families with services such as behavioral and speech therapy for children, legal aid, and housing. Through these referrals, I provided concrete information as to where to apply for these services. I also conducted psychosocial assessment on children with developmental, speech or behavior disabilities by providing individual play therapy for children age two to four. After working with this agency for the semester, I noticed that I wanted to work with a population that has a stake in their wellbeing rather than working with parents of the children. I wanted to work with clients that took responsibilities with their own lives. So, second semester I transitioned into interning at City of Pasadena Public Health Department. Within this organization, I assisted the program director in developing and strengthening the new healthy aging and wellness program for clients visiting the Jackie Robinson and Villa Parke Community Centers. As an intern, I conducted Department of Mental Health psychosocial assessments for older adults seeking individual counseling and organized and co-facilitated a support group in stress management and coping skills. Through this process, it was a challenge...

Personal Reflection

...gaining new insights and changed perception of self and practices. Reflection can be a difficult experience without the support and guidance of an expert (Johns, 2004). This personal reflection presents an exciting opportunity for me to consider how successful my placement in the intermediate care has been in terms of my own personal learning. By reflecting on the positive aspects of the placement, I will be able to make sense of my personal learning and apply what I have learnt into future careers. At the beginning of my placement I knew very little about intermediate care or services it provided regarding alternatives to hospital care for elderly patients. In preparation for my placement, I visited a local health center and spoke to a therapist who agreed to send me information about intermediate care service. I familiarized myself with the services that are offered by intermediate care, for instance in house provisions and therapist group run services. This helped to alleviate some of my anxiety about the placement that I experienced during my first week, reflecting on my experiences has helped. During my placement I was allocated a mentor who was a knowledgeable and professional nurse. I learnt so much from my mentor, especially what it takes to be a crucial member of a rapid response team of the intermediate care service. Shadowing the mentor gave me the opportunity to observe all the rapid response teams and the valuable work that was undertaken in intermediate care...

Reflective Writing

...shaped by your assumptions and preconceived ideas; in doing so, you can appreciate the ideas of others, notice how their assumptions and preconceived ideas may have shaped their thoughts, and perhaps recognize how your ideas support or oppose what you read. Types of Reflection Experiential Reflection: Popular in professional programs, like business, nursing, forensics and education, reflection is an important part of making connections between theory and practice. When you are asked to reflect upon experience in a placement, you do not only describe your experience, but you evaluate it based on ideas from class. You can assess a theory or approach based on your observations and practice and evaluate your own knowledge and skills within your professional field. This opportunity to take the time to think about your choices, your actions, your successes and your failures is best done within a specific framework, like course themes or work placement objectives. Abstract concepts can become concrete and real to you when considered within your own experiences, and reflection on your experiences allows you to make plans for improvement. ...important aspects of becoming a teacher and having my own classroom. The goal of classroom management is to create an environment in which every child succeeds. As a teacher, I would need to be able to anticipate my students’ actions before they happen, handle situations that do arise, and prevent them from happening again. In order for me to be able to be able to anticipate what a student will do, I need to know my students very well. It is crucial to learn about each one of my students and understand what may cause them to be upset and act out. If a student is gifted and they tend to...

Moreover, having a clear view of the working conditions, the future prospects, and the potential opportunities provided in this area is fundamental to make a final decision (Brady et al. 117-121). One must also take into consideration the personality traits of a successful dietitian and their impact on one's future in this career . The most important step of pursuing a career is to comprehend where to start and how to begin the journey. For those interested in Nutrition and Dietetics, it is challenging to realize the demands of careers in this field. (McConkey 356-360). To be a nutritionist or dietitian requires a bachelor's or master's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics or any program related to this field such as foods and nutritional sciences, human nutrition, etc ("Education."). Process Of Clinical Assessment

...The Process of Clinical Assessment helps the provider understand how problems persist and how they can be modified. It also helps the provider understand the nature of the problems, symptoms, complaints or dilemmas presented in the patient population (Messer & Gurman, ). The process of clinical assessment is especially useful for my field placement because I conduct assessments, diagnose patients, and determine potential levels of care while providing one-on-one therapy. The unique element is that my placement is located at a correctional facility. Patients are often not compliant with treatment in the community and incarceration is often their first contact with mental health providers. Patients with documented histories often have an...
