My Fall Term at Duquesne

My fall term at Duquesne has been most challenging term in my stay at US. I faced a lot of difficulties at the beginning of this term despite this is not my first term at Duquesne, so things went not as I expected. It is such feelings which make life interesting as we always have new problems and challenges to deal with but also have some interesting events going on. As soon this semester started I tried to do my best to develop my skills and to incorporate to this new culture. I faced two main difficulties which made me more stronger than before In facing problem.

One difficulties that I faced at the beginning of this semester is some misunderstanding in the registration of my classes. The head of ESL program told me that I did not register for the Grammar and Graduate Research Paper. I was shocked because I already registered for these two classes before I went to Saudi Arabia in the Summer. they told me that there were no more spaces for me. I faced a bad treatment which made me angry and so depressed. They may have missed my file, so they did not register me. Fortunately, they overcame the problem, and they opened another grammar section. Another thing which I did not like they put me in the Term Paper class instead of the Graduate Research Paper which made me sad, but recently I realized it is better for me.

Another difficulties that I faced is when I took my first academic class, I felt uncomfortable, and I did not know how to deal with this new class and how the class will look like. At the beginning, I felt like a stranger, and it was hard for me to adapt this situation. There was a project which I should participate in as a group, so I had to work with the American student. This experience made me more confidence about myself, and it helped me to make a lot of American friends. My professor is very kind when I was confused in how to study, I made an appointment in the office hour which help me a lot in understanding this class.

In short, I faced a lot of difficulties in this term, and I had the ability to handle it and overcame all the problems. I like how challenging it was and how it changes my abilities and views to deal with the difficulties. I learned a lot and got the experience to face different challenges. I am very grateful to all my Grammar and Term Paper inspectors and my academic professor for giving me the great opportunity to join the cohort and learn. It has been an incredible term and I look forward to taking the next challenging step in my education. I also enjoy reflecting upon events and challenges in my life because it makes feel the excitement of what is next and think of how to handle problems wisely.

All Greek To Me Analysis

...idiom “all Greek to me” could describe the time in my life when it was thought that there was a problem with my brain. The first reason that the idiom “all Greek to me” relates to the point in my life that I mentioned is the medical terms that were used then. To be more specific, I had no idea what some of the medical terms that the doctors used meant. One example of this was during my first MRI. For starters, I didn’t even know what an MRI was at first. I also didn’t know what an IV was. I pretty much didn’t know anything about medical related things. This applies to pretty much all of the procedures that were done to me during that time, which were a couple of MRIs, two angiograms, a CAT scan, and eye muscle surgery. Another example of me not knowing these terms would be when I was...

Throughout this report I will be looking at the background knowledge I have of PDP and how I have developed my business and academic skills in my first trimester. PDP is extremely helpful in aiding you in developing skills you already possess or require when it becomes obligatory to be responsible for your own learning, your personal development and your advancement into the world of work. “The kind of jobs that most graduates want to enter requires a range of qualities and skills that take time, support and good planning to develop” (Cottrell, 2003) which is where PDP takes an important role in your learning process. PDP was introduced into universities in order to help students plan their short term and long term goals so that they can plan how to achieve them. PDP is the process of outlining your short term and long term goals and planning a structured way to achieve them. It is also a way of looking back on your learning and personal...

Advising Paper

...I had gotten the assignment about the advising paper, I went straight away and made my appointment as soon as possible, listing various types of questions to ask my advisor on the day of my appointment. I had gotten all my supplies ready, including my folder which had heaps of paper so I could jot down notes during the meeting. I also brought a list of my short term and long term goals to share with my advisor. I met with the chemistry advisor, Dr. Borgford in the chemistry building at 11:30 a.m. We discussed many topics, first being my short term and long term goals. My short term goals being that I try to make all A’s in all of my classes this semester, never being late or missing a class, and lastly, doing all of the homework assignments. I had thought up only two long term goals, one being, getting at least a 3.5 GPA when finishing my undergraduate program, the other long term goal, being that I get into Samford University for pharmaceutical school. Some of the reasons why I think I could be unsuccessful in accomplishing my goals would be that, like many others, I tend to procrastinate a bit too much. Also, I tend to talk a lot on the phone with my friends and discuss plans that are going to be made on the upcoming weekend. Besides my list of reasons how I would be unsuccessful in fulfilling my goals, I also have some reasons of how I could overcome all my faults that I could make. First and foremost, I believe that being well organized is one of the key factors one could...

Personal Goals

...overcoming the milestones keep us motivated to achieve what we originally set out to do. My personal goals for the future consist of relocating, followed by a professional promotion into management, and completing my degree in order to have a successful life ahead of me. A personal short term goal of mine is to sell my home. I am preparing my home for resale and hope to place it on the market with a realtor in the next few months. There have been many barriers to overcome to overcome in this preparation. To date, I have replaced the kitchen, bathrooms, air conditioner, carpet, tile, and painted inside and out. There are still a few cosmetic things I need to do such as fixing up the yard and staining the driveway. Once those things are completed I will contact the realtor to obtain an appraisal to see how much I can list my property for. My long term personal goal is downsizing from my current five bedroom home and purchasing a town home. Three of my four children are grown and have moved into their own homes which just leaves myself and my youngest daughter. For the first half of the term, I struggled with adjusting to my new position at work. Previously, I held a part-time position. However, with the enactment of new health laws, my position as a part-time employee limited myself to work under 28 hours, which did not create a livable wage for me. My employer offered limited full-time spots to select employees. I was chosen as one, which was something I couldn’t refuse since it offered a higher wage and health insurance. As such, this was a huge adjustment, as I had to re-think how and when I would utilize my study time. Algebra has always been a struggle for me, or all math for that matter. It is a very intimidating subject for me. Nevertheless, I continued with the lesson plans, but truly felt as I was not retaining any of the information.
