Aside from technology, clothing has taken a huge toll on kids today. In addition to clothing, music is unalike between both generations. In this day and age, technology, clothing, and music have changed significantly between past generations. In today’s time, teenagers use technology for basically everything. For example, teenagers use social networking like Facebook, or text messaging to date other people. However in other generations, two people simply met face to face and asked each other out on a date. If someone in today’s age wants to look up weather or a definition to a word, Google from their smart phone simply does that for him/her. As opposed to other generations, people had to watch television to look up weather, and look into a dictionary to define a word. Lastly, teenagers in this generation use eBay to shop for things that they want from the internet. Whereas older generations went to the store, or mall to get things that they wanted.

The way people dress has come a long way between generations. This generation today wears clothing that is unnecessarily colorful, and large or small. However in other generations, people wore normal clothing that suits them. Today, men wear pants below their waist, and sometimes below their butt. As opposed to other generations, men wear pants normally. In today’s age, teenagers wear expensive brand name sneakers to show that they are better than others. Whereas older generations didn’t care about what shoes they wore.

Documentary Review We came to learn how we as humans are created or put together in the early 90’s with the human genome project, which was going to help and allow us to find the genetic cure and diagnosis for every disease, but in the end it didn’t allow us to have all the answers. In the documentary I learned that we have several illnesses and diseases that are in our genetic code already, but then we have some that are caused by changes in how our genes are structured that we have inherited from our...

Traditions

...habitual actions and ways of thought are passed from generation to generation as traditions. Parents bestow their knowledge on their children who eventually do the same to theirs. On their journey from generation to generation, these beliefs, values, and practices develop and change. Each generation adapts the traditions they inherit. Some choose to discontinue or modify traditions they were brought up with while others stay steadfast to what they know. The traditions present in my family have shaped me and my sister to be the people we are. Our family dynamic revolves around the places we go, the things we believe in, and the people we interact with. My family has a number of traditions that we have inherited as well as many that have been started internally. Most of the traditions that have played a role in my life focus on repetition of an event. When I first thought about tradition, the classics came to mind: Christmas, Thanksgiving, meals with extended family, and so on. These mainstream traditions definitely played a role in my life like they do many people. These holidays and special occasions offered a time to connect with cousins and relatives, celebrate an event or time of the year, and grow tighter as a family. I fondly recall Christmas Eves, Thanksgiving meals, and birthdays. These societally designated traditions based around a specific event act as an excuse for the family to do something. When December comes, my family always goes Christmas tree ‘hunting’. I use...

Growing Up in America- Narrative Essay

...sitting twenty feet up a tree in my hunting stand. I had my PSE spider bow in my hand with an Easton arrow knocked and ready to rock. I was only fourteen years old. My dad was sitting in the tree next to me. There was no sign of deer yet we were just listening to the wind blowing through the trees, and the squirrels rustling below. They were fidgeting around with some of the apples I had put out for the deer. One of the squirrels picked up an apple attempted to climb a tree with it and fell to the ground. I chuckled a little bit. I was focused on the squirrels when my dad leaned over and said “Quit fooling around there is a deer, look to the left”. I glanced left and froze as I stared right at a huge doe. She was walking down the trail right towards me.my heart started to pound faster and faster with every nearing step. I raised my bow when she was about thirty yards away. My heart was pounding. I drew back my bow and took aim. I paused for a second and closed my eyes to take a deep breath and think. “Mitch, wake up your dad is home” my mom said. I raced out the door in my pajamas. I was about six at the time. Sure enough the big green F150 pulled in the driveway, my dad gets out and drops open the tailgate. Lying in the bed was a huge doe. My dad picked me up and set me next to the deer. My mom came out and took a picture of us with his deer. “Dad when is it going to me my turn to go hunting” I said. “Son, when you grow up, I promise” he replied. Age 12 I passed my hunters safety...

...language passed down from generation to generation, their own handmade drums, carvings, artwork, a strong spiritual connection, and even a second name identifying who they are and where they come from. I do not not have a people, a sense of belonging, or older generations to live and look up to. White culture is so disconnected, people just move to get a job and leave their roots and extended family behind. I spent nights crying in my room because of how alone and empty I felt over having the simplest past and no sense of culture. During those pity parties I would listen to rain softly falling on the evergreens and ferns as they lovingly take in everything that gives them life. The only thing I have ever felt connected to is the culture of the Pacific Northwest. Being in those wet, rainy forests makes me feel at home. Hiking over mountain ridges to watch the trail unravel in front of you is something magical. Mama Nature helps you along the way and somehow the birds and squirrels that stop and greet you...

What Does It Mean to Be Portuguese

...single person viewed equally. Under the Bill of Rights, everyone is created equally. But how much of that statement is actually true? Are we all created and treated equally? Integration is a welcoming concept that is often frowned upon by other generations. The ethnic food, the summers of weekend feasts, the language, the traditions, the music, the religion, the dancing, and the clothing. These are all typical aspects of cultures around the world. Some take pride in where they have come from, their roots. Others, steer away from it. They do so for many reasons, society’s influence being the top reason. Portuguese people, also known as Lusitanos, believe they have a community within the United States, but how much of that is imagined? Do segregation and social spaces influence their views? What does it mean to be Portuguese, in a society that is constantly judging you? Growing up, I was always involved in my community. The members around me influenced me. I took pride in being a Lusitano. Whether it meant accompanying my family to the local feasts to learn how to dance, trying and learning to cook our famous ethnic dishes, learning the language at a young age, or practicing my religion as a Roman Catholic, I was always trying to boost my status in the Portuguese community. Learning the language helped a lot because I could now interact with both of the communities I was a part of, or so I presumed But not everything is as black and white as I thought it was back then. In a time where the single most anti-child phase in American history began. In the early 1960's the birth control pill became widely available, and in 1973, abortion was legalized (Coupland 1991). ...are completely different people. This is largely due to people expressing their feelings and emotions behind their phones, but when it comes time to do so verbally, they cannot. Especially the younger generations, people who are about 24 years and younger are so dependent on social media and the Internet. Before technology was so booming, people were not relying on social media, or interactions behind screens as much. That basically explains why older generations are better at face-to-face verbal conversations compared to the younger generations. The younger generations have been exposed to all of this technology such as advanced social media. They are accustomed to it, they communicate through the Internet, but then when it comes to verbal communications in person, younger generations have lost some of their communication skills. They are more socially awkward now a day. I have seen people who do not know how to communicate, but when it comes to speaking through social media, they can express their opinions and speak very thoroughly. Personal Narrative: The Last Child

...Last Child Technology of our modernity has become so evolved within the last few years it can be hard for one to fathom. When my generation was younger (19th century) we were able to enjoy nature without having to have an electronic of some sort to distract us. A lot of the kids from my generation weren't gifted with the chance to have electronics to keep us occupied at our convenience. It wasn't until most of us were of fifteen years that we were able to get a flip phone that we were allowed to make calls and text on. In today's time (20th century) almost every little kid that I see has a cell phone and their eyes are glued to it. However, there is a question that can be asked, are little kids no longer little kids because parents of today's generation don't want to deal with their kids? Technology is taking over more and more everyday, causing the virtual world to be more pleasing to one's liking than reality In all honesty, I am more than happy with the fact that I didn't grow up with my eyes glued to a tiny screen all day long. I was able to grow up entertaining myself. Considering that I live in tiny town, I could get up in the morning, go outside, whether it was cold or hot, and make the most of it. A group of us neighborhood kids would make up different games to play until the street lights came on notifying us that it was time to go...

Alan Greenblatt's Essay 'Millennial Generation'

...For much if my life I considered myself apart of Generation X. My parents were Baby Boomers, and their parents were the Greatest Generation, so this makes me Gen-X, right? I saw the newest generation as children who never knew life without computers, and always received awards for precipitation. I could not possibly be one of them. This generation, formally known as Generation Y, has seemed to have found a new name; The Millennial Generation, and I think I am one of them. Alan Greenblatt explains how many opinions exist about which age range truly describes Millennials in his article “Millennial Generation.” Greenblatt states, “Experts don’t agree yet as to who exactly is a Millennial. But various researchers say the oldest Millennials were born in 1980, 1981, or 1982. Depending on who you ask, they say the youngest Millennials were born between 1995 and 2005” (Greenblatt, 2015, p. 556). Having been born in 1980 places me at the lower boundary of the Millennial age range. If being judged by birth year alone, I will have to...

It all starts with the parents.Child behavior is out of control Children are acting out more and more these days. It seems that almost every child is being diagnosed with ADD of ADHD and is on medications. This is ridiculous and should be stopped. One of the reasons for this has to be parenting.
