My Lost Homework Assignment

...My Lost Homework Assignment I completed my homework assignment and left it sitting on the table. I went to get my folder so I could put it away. It took me just seconds to return to the table. My homework was gone. What could have happened to it so quickly? I checked the dog, the children and even my wife. Nobody knew anything about my missing homework. So I started a search with the help of everyone in my family. While searching I saw paper hanging out the window. It was the cover page. Then I looked outside for the other pages. As I searched I found another page in the garage. How it got there I’ll never know. As I continued my search my next door neighbor stopped me and asked if I had I lost something. I said yes. He pulled a crumpled piece of paper out of his car. He went and explained that it had blown into his car a couple blocks back. The last paper of my homework was found when I had given up on searching for it. My phone rang, and it was my brother. He was almost a mile away at the gas station pumping his gas when a paper blew on to his foot. He said when he removed it he saw my name on it, and had to give me a call. I didn’t believe it so I told him to bring it with him. To my surprise it was my final page. Even up to this day the events of the missing homework assignment is still a mystery to...

Private Tutions

...The practice of giving private tuitions and teaching students in coaching classes in shifts is increasing day by day in India. The parents of the Indian boys and girls are mostly of the view that their wards can only get better knowledge only by tuitions and different coaching classes, which are generally run of the working teachers of colleges, universities and unemployed educated youth. It is my personal experience that even teachers teaching in lower classes i.e. from primary to junior high school advise the parents of the students that their wards could only get through in home examinations and would be able to secure good marks if are taught by their own teachers, either way of tuitions or coaching. The candidates preparing for different competitive examinations are lured by different coaching institutions. The main aim of these coaching institutions is to earn maximum profit and they do not care to educate the candidates to acquire detailed knowledge of subjects. These institutes only prepare the candidates keeping in view the fourth coming examinations. PRIVATE TUTIONS: ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES Parents are worried that their children are unable to cope with school work. As such, they hire private tutors to coach them or send them to tuition centers for extra lessons. Private tuitions can be advantageous. Sometimes students are unable to concentrate during lessons for various reasons, such as distractions, not feeling well or explanation gaps. Therefore, students...

Ethical Subjectivism

...by acknowledging which ones we use that make it difficult for us to make moral decisions in our lives. The two forms of resistance I have used are distractions and denial. Distractions: We use distractions to block out any thoughts of issues we’re dealing with. There have been many situations where I’ve distracted myself because I was dreading to deal with certain situations. Fall semester of my Junior Year, during midterms I had tons of homework assignments and studying due on the same day. I was completely stressed out and the more I thought of it the less I wanted to do it. Everyday that week I would find different reasons that made me put it off. I would find myself cleaning my room, hanging out my friends, using social media and going to the gym to avoid my responsibilities because it kept my mind off on what I really had to get done. If I just broke my homework down and focused of certain classes each day I wouldn’t be as stressed out as I was till the day before I had my exams and homework assignments due. Resistance is played out because I dreaded doing my homework because of my lack of motivation and stress level that made me find reasons that weren’t important to make me forget that I had anything to do. Denial: We tend to be in denial of things we don’t want to believe is true. We make excuses and become blind to the truth, even when it’s in front of our...

Students

...is to clear up some concepts regarding the three types of college students. One group, The Jocks, is the show-off type of people who puts off their homework assignments until the last minute. Once the assignment is completed at the last minute, the assignment is usually scored a low grade. The reason for this is because the jocks are always partying, going out on dates, or having fun with their sorority. The jocks wear anything to include torn jeans/shirts, work down sneakers or boots and cheap, expensive-looking jacket. The second group, known campus-wide, is the nerds because they are obsessed with books, constantly studying and learning about their interests. The nerds are usually annoying with their obnoxious laughter regarding a really stupid joke. The nerds wear a nice shirt with a bow tie, or a tie and a nicely ironed dress pants and always has a pocket protector to prevent ink stains from their pens. The nerd spends their school night with a tight schedule for recreation, school homework, and learning new things that captures their interests. Computer programming, calculator programming, the biology of their pet frog are some of the common things that interests the nerds. The third group is the normal group, they are usually typical college students attending their scheduled classes, getting the homework assignments done and turned in on time. The normal group is usually mothers/fathers that have hired baby sitters to watch their son(s)/daughter(s)...

Book Review: the Homework Myth

...Book Review The Homework Myth: Why Our Kids Get Too Much of a Bad Thing by Alfie Kohn University of Montevallo EDF561: Evaluations in Education Susan Scott Alfie Kohn’s (2006) book, The Homework Myth: Why Our Kids Get Too Much of a Bad Thing, gave me food for thought. Kohn opposes homework of any kind in any form for any grade level. He explores each commonly given, pro-homework argument in an attempt to persuade his readers, both parents and teachers, of the uselessness and possibly detrimental effects of the long-standing educational tradition. The first claim Kohn (2006) makes is that our children are “missing out on their childhoods” (p. 3). His opinion is that children spend seven hours in school everyday; that should be enough. He argues that kids need more time to be kids. Such time would include family time, friend time, time spent in extracurricular activities such as sports, music and art lessons, and play groups for younger kids. I agree. Kids do need time to enjoy their childhood. It is the most carefree time of their lives, relatively speaking. Does that mean they should have no homework at all? I am not yet ready to agree completely with that attitude. “Does homework improve learning?” Kohn (2006, p. 25) asks. The most significant issue he raises, in an attempt to answer that question, is regarding the kind of homework about which we are talking. Assignments can range from useless, fill-in-the-blank worksheets to extended projects that...

Blowing By Chris Haskell: Video Analysis

...After watching the video from Chris Haskell-Blowing up the grade book I found myself agreeing and disagreeing with some of his points. 1. Homework- I agree with Mr. Haskell on this subject, my boyfriend has two old kids twelve and ten when they are at our house (every other week) homework is the first thing they have to do when they get home. I double check some of it and I am always getting updates from PowerSchool to let me know their progress. A lot of the times they have to make up homework that they didn't do at their other house so we are always playing catch up. I strongly agree when he says that homework is more to see which parents are involved with making sure its getting done. I think teachers should focus more on getting work done in class instead of making sure that they have something to do at home. I do understand that technology is taking over but the fact that teachers allow kids to text in class I also strongly disagree with, if that's the case they should be doing...

Achieving Healthful Digital Diet

...keep them quiet, and even elder ones should just be given simple phones. The most significant idea of this passage is that digital use for entertainment is causing many problems for children’s education. Children are obsessed by the screen nowadays. For instance, when my little four year old nephew starts making noise at home, my sister give him the iPad to play with games so he can quiet up. He likes to play video games and watch videos from YouTube. If my sister doesn’t give him the iPad he would make a lot of noise which is not good for neighborhoods around us. I think my sister should find a different way to stop him from making noise not just by handing him the iPad. However, parents should have big role to prevent their children from using screens for entertainment. Children should be more focused on education. The author makes a great point that young kids shouldn’t be given smartphones to keep them quiet. Another problem in today’s society for kids is multitasking. Multitasking should be limited while studying because it can bring distraction. Although, lately I have noticed that when I start to study while I have my phone next to me, it takes more time for me to finish that task than when I have my phone...

Positive Affirmation Paper

...Positive Affirmation 1. I am able to complete my school work and weekly tasks in a timely and stress-free manner without procrastination being an issue. 2. I have chosen this particular affirmation because I have found that I am an expert in the art of procrastination. Procrastination is something that has always been a factor in my life regarding school work. For as long as I can remember, I have been putting off the completion of writing papers and doing homework for all subjects in school. I also procrastinate when I need to study for a test, and I end up cramming at the last minute. I have been using procrastination in regards to writing papers, doing homework, and studying for tests for so many years now that it seems to work for me as I am able to complete all off my assignments by the due date, and do well on tests. The reason I want to change my procrastinating ways is because of the immense, unnecessary stress that it physically, as well as mentally, puts upon me. Procrastination also affects me outside of school. One example of this is the way that I put off doing any of my closing tasks at work until the last ten minutes we are open, which causes me to have to stay at work after hours in order to complete them. Procrastination has kept me up all night, caused me untold amounts of stress, and has also gotten me into trouble at my job. It seems as if it is only a major factor regarding school, but in reality it affects everything. Procrastination is something...
