The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games was a rather interesting book it was fascinating, peculiar, but great Suzanne Collins “really put her foot into this one”. The Hunger Games takes place in a nation known as Panem, established in North America after the destruction of the continent's civilization by an unknown apocalyptic event. The nation consists of the wealthy Capitol and twelve surrounding, poorer districts united under the Capitol's control. District 12, where the book begins, is located in the coal-rich region that was formerly known as Appalachia. As punishment for a past rebellion against the Capitol, in which a 13th district was destroyed, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by an annual lottery to participate in the Hunger Games, an event in which the participants (or "tributes") must fight to the death in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one individual remains. The story is narrated by 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12 who volunteers for the 74th annual Hunger Games in place of her younger sister, Primrose. The male tribute chosen from District 12 is Peeta Mellark, a former schoolmate of Katniss who once gave her bread from his family's bakery when her family was starving. Katniss and Peeta are taken to the Capitol, where their drunken mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, victor of the 50th Hunger Games, instructs them to watch and determine the strengths and weaknesses of the other tributes. "Stylists" are employed to make each tribute look his or her best; Katniss's stylist, Cinna, is the only person at the Capitol with whom she feels a degree of understanding. The tributes are publicly displayed to the Capitol audience in an interview with television host Caesar Flickerman, and have to attempt to appeal to the television audience in order to obtain "sponsors".

My Perfect Dream Vacation: There's No Place Like Home

...My Perfect Dream Vacation: There's No Place Like Home Almost everyone has their own idea of a dream vacation. It's the perfect place to get away from the reality of every day life and the stress that goes along with it, and the choices and ideas of the “perfect vacation” are as varied as the people who dream about them. Some fantasize about lazing on a warm, sunny beach with soft ocean breezes and a cold exotic drink at their side. Some dream of forests and wildlife, cool running streams, and fresh mountain air that is thick with the scent of pine. There are those whose ideas of the perfect dream vacation involves the thrill of stock car racing mixed with the roar of the crowd, the smell of fuel and hot asphalt that's mingled with the smell of hot dogs and fries from the concession stand, and the heart stopping excitement of mishaps on the track. So what is my idea of the perfect dream vacation? It's simple. It's the place where there are no crowds, everything is familiar, the food is prepared to my specific taste, and the bed is my own. For me, there is no place like home. With a little forethought and planning, even home can be turned in to a dream vacation getaway. A leisurely breakfast is the perfect way to start each vacation day. A plate of fresh fruits, fluffy scrambled eggs, toast with butter, and a cup of hot coffee is sure to chase away that sleepy feeling and energize you for the day ahead. ...Splurging on a once in a life time dream vacation would be a priceless experience. Traveling to new and exciting places would create ever lasting memories that we would share for a lifetime. A vacation is a wonderful way for us to have a break from every day stresses and schedule conflicts. A luxury cruise can offer all these things and much more. Personally experiencing what a luxury cruise has to offer, I can guarantee a cost worthy, indulgent and memorable experience. The most enjoyable vacation I’ve experienced was a luxury cruise .Over the span of 4 days I was able to travel from Miami, Fl all the way to Conzumel , Mexico. Having experienced such a wonderful vacation in a short four day cruise, I would like to propose a long, luxurious, and romantic fourteen night cruise for our family of two. This ultimate dream vacation would take us from the Gulf of Mexico, to the Bahamas and everywhere in between. This dream vacation is well worth the price. Having your hotel, restaurant, entertainment, and transportation all in one place makes for a very relaxation experience. Whereas other vacation hot spots may have you running around and wasting your vacation time. The cost of the fair pays for all the gourmet food you will be having and allows twenty four hour room service. Taking a luxury cruise, allows for a very indulgent vacation. You can indulge in food, sightseeing, entertainment or spa treatments all on board the cruise ship. When reaching destinations, every port has something...

Family Vacation

...For years, my family and I have saved for a vacation. We have a good sum in our vacation fund and after the past three years of working hard, we deserve some time to relax and enjoy each other. We all have two weeks off in September and are starting to look at where we want to go. Each of us has a place in mind, but no one is committed to any one place. Mainly we want to go somewhere that offers lots of activities to keep us busy, a place we can relax, and somewhere that will add to our family memories. I have researched several popular vacation locations and finally found Bora Bora, one of the islands in the French Polynesian chain, near Tahiti. Bora Bora has all the ingredients for a wonderful family vacation that we will remember the rest of our lives. Bora Bora is known as a popular exotic destination and will be a great location for our vacation. The main requirement for the place I want our family to go for our vacation is that it has a variety of activities so that we can all fill our time with fun. Of course, vacations are supposed to be relaxing, so wherever we go it should be a place that soothes the soul. Bora Bora has all the requirements but is not within our vacation budget, so I did further review on this travel destination in order to show my family this is a once in a lifetime vacation. To meet all of our vacation requirements, I knew the place would have to be tropical. I researched many places including Hawaii and Mexico. Vacations to either one of those...

My Unforgettable Trip

...My Unforgettable Trip to California Mirna El Hadi American Intercontinental University English 106 Dr. Rebecca Coleman January 12, 2013 “My Unforgettable Trip to California” This past April, my friend and I took a five-day trip to California, where we visited San Francisco and the Napa Valley wine country. We flew out on a Friday morning and stayed in the Golden State until Wednesday afternoon. During our visit, we saw quite a bit of gorgeous scenery, ate some scrumptious food, and drank some tasty wine. All in all, it was a fun, relaxing, and memorable vacation. But the reason the getaway was truly memorable is because I lucky to spend such an amazing time where I got to enjoy an awesome weather visit some unforgettable places, and best of all, try new kinds of food, which is my favorite. “Cool Weather for a Vacation Pleasure” When it comes to San Francisco’s weather, all I can say is “Gorgeous.” I mean that many great aspects of our vacation that were beyond our control just happened to go in our favor. In San Francisco, for instance, the weather was absolutely beautiful, with sunshine, very few clouds, and mild temperatures. The city has a reputation for being foggy, chilly, and windy, so we were fortunate to experience the lovely weather while we were there. In addition, my friend and I went to Pier 51, which is “home” to some sea lions during certain times of the year. Though there are many times throughout the year that the sea lions are not present...

...Resort Review The Philippines is known for its diverse vacation spots for all seasons. Beach resorts and natural wonders of unique landscapes made the country a popular tourist attraction in Asia. One particular vacation spot called Eagle Point Resort is not as famous as the others are, but can also offer a lot of great things as well. Located in Anilao Batangas, the resort was strategically situated besides a beach rich with coral reefs and marine life. This seaside haven can offer a variety of services that can easily satisfy and meet the expectations of tourists or local visitors alike. It is the perfect get away location to unwind from the stressful environment of a city life and that is what you would expect from a beach resort. The Eagle Point Resort is a good place to spend your vacation because of its good hotel services, fun underwater activities, and the attraction of a diverse marine ecosystem. Hotel service is a very important thing to consider when you stay at a resort. After all, who would want to reside in a place where people treat you rudely and are lazy with their job? On my first day at Eagle Point, the one thing that immediately caught my attention was how friendly the hotel employees are. Some people might find it weird or feel awkward when others act a little too friendly with them, but it did not bother me one bit. I actually enjoyed it, and their attitude stayed consistently the same throughout my entire three days of stay at the hotel. They work hard...

Cosumel

...Veronica Caruso Cozumel: A Paradise Worthy of a Visit I have been fortunate to recently travel to faraway places like India, Argentina, England, Germany and Mexico due to my husband’s job. One of the places that caught my attention was the island of Cozumel. Cozumel, part of Mexico, is located on the eastern coast of the Yucatan’s Peninsula in the Caribbean Sea between Playa del Carmen and Cuba. The island, contrasting the endless blue of the Caribbean Sea along the coast with the emerald green of the tropical jungle, is the most beautiful and warmhearted place to visit in Mexico. When I think about a vacation, I look for an all-inclusive resort with outstanding customer service, a place with a variety of activities to explore, and a downtown area for shopping with fine and casual dining; the island of Cozumel offers all of these. The Palace Hotel is an all-inclusive resort with outstanding customer service. The staff at the hotel is friendly and offers exceptional service at all times. From the moment I got off the plane until I arrived to the hotel, everything was done for me. The taxi driver, who greeted me at the airport, knew my name and my hotel destination. At the hotel, I was welcomed by the receptionist with a fresh rose and a wet, warm towel so I could refresh myself. Wherever I went and whatever I asked for, I was greeted with a smile and friendly attitude. The hotel accommodations far exceeded anything I ever imagined...

Florida Summers

...summer my entire family on my mothers’ side piles into a packed conversion van, a mini van, and an SUV and travel the 495.8 miles from Maiden, North Carolina to the Royal Floridian hotel in Daytona Beach, Florida. (Mapquest Maps) The following week is filled with excitement, relaxation, and like most other families, a little tension too, but most importantly, bonding. My family has done this the week of the 4th of July every year for the past 20+ years. Everyone in my family knows it is not acceptable to skip the annual family vacation. I am eighteen years old, and I have been to Florida eighteen times thus far in my life. It is a tradition. Especially after working full time jobs and striving through schoolwork for nine months, everyone is ready for that little break where everyone has that place where they go to escape the pressures and worries of life. There is always that one spot that can soothe all of your problems and trouble times of stress. Each time we go, more and more aspects of the trip take on ritualistic, almost sacred, significance. Indeed, going to Florida is a tradition, and one that I have come to cherish very much. While the week holds many events that change us as a family, the car ride down there is the most memorable. This specific car ride challenges us as a family and pushes us to put aside our differences and learn to accommodate others particular personalities. The main thing I will always remember from this long drive is how my grandparents...

Indeed, it was a perfect vacation. It happened on the month of December year 2011. I was with my family and some family friends. At this time this place is the Philippines' most well known tourist attraction. Figure 1: Boracay Island (Copyright of TravellingInspiration) Geography When we got there as like any other places where you can take your vacation, we saw large hotels but around them were vegetation. It is like a hybrid of establishments and trees. It was beautiful to see. There is a region where I saw a mountain where hotels were at the slope of the hill. I came there at one of the Inns and the view outside was outstanding. I said to myself, "So this is how it feels like if you live at the edge of the cliff." It was beautiful! Budgeting Informative Essay

...Parker 1 Cynthia Parker November 11, 2015 After deciding to take a vacation, one must narrow down the possible vacation spots. Two destinations that interest me are Branson, Missouri and Cozumel, Mexico.
