I believe that the first step towards setting and achieving personal goals is that you must realize you have to prepare for the future and not wait for it to happen. My life in retrospect has had many changes and twists; it is in a constant state of development. The process of getting ready to write this essay was very challenging. It really forced me to focus on my life and how it has changed as I have matured.
Setting goals has forced me to take a look at my values. I have always wanted to have a husband I am in love with, a stable job, happy and healthy children, and a house in the suburbs. But now, after living life and surviving some defeats I realize that there are no guarantees in life except the ones we choose for ourselves. I have the stable job, happy and healthy children, and a house in the suburbs, but that does not bring happiness. The only way to improve your life is to improve yourself. I think that once you begin this journey everything else in your life will seem to balance. There are many steps I had to take on this journey of self-discovery.
I needed to define and understand my values and why they are important to me. Then I started to think about my immediate and long-term future and started to set some personal goals. I realized that I was waiting for my future to just happen. My first short-term goal for the future is to become content with myself. I want to be satisfied with the decisions
I make, even if the outcome is not what I had hoped. I want to be the best mother to my children under any circumstances and recognize that sometimes that means making the hard, unpopular decisions. I want to be able to accept and forgive myself and be able to live up to the expectations I have for myself. I need to live my life for myself and not for others around

...Everyone should have personal goals that evolve around anything that needs to be accomplished. I set goals on a daily basis. One goal that I seem to have not truly focused on has been my college education. Considering all things, I decided I needed to focus on my college education. The first thing I needed to accomplish was to enroll in an institution for higher learning. Now that my enrollment is complete, I am an official student at the University enrolled in the undergraduate program for business management. As a student at the university, I now have to set personal goals so that I will be successful in my endeavors. My personal goals are to gain personal growth and development and graduate from my undergraduate program in business management with honors. After my completion of the undergraduate program I will then move on to a master's program. To accomplish my goal of personal growth and development, I will make sure that by the end of every course I take I will have a full understanding of the subject matter. This is where I will take advantage of the learning teams that are offered in conjunction with individual learning. The way I look at the learning teams is that they are there for me to learn and share experiences with my peers. If there is something that I do not fully understand, I can in turn go to my learning team for the answer. If I cannot get the answer from my team then I will go to the instructor. I will not stop until I have a full understanding of ...

Personal Narrative: My Goal At Colorado Christian University

...There was no singular event that occurred in my life that I can say will influence my academic work or goals at Colorado Christian University. Rather, what I have experienced as an Emergency Medical Technician will enable and guide me to fulfill my goals at CCU. While studying to become an EMT, I heard many instructors warn us that if we proceed in the field, we would develop a morbid sense of humor and a desensitization towards our patients. I didn’t believe this would prove true to me. I was a caring, compassionate person, who wanted to be a Pediatric Registered Nurse. After working in the field for only about a month, I had a patient die on my gurney. Being left to grieve on my own, an empathy switch flipped off in me and what I once thought would never happen, did, in fact, happen....

Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Lee A. Cruz Gen 200 James Bailey September 13th, 2012 As the great Eleanor Roosevelt once stated, “In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” Personal responsibility consists of knowing oneself, maintaining psychological and physical health, and knowing the choices we make today may influence our future. Determining your goals in life, time management and prioritizing your wants dictates your day by day personal actions. Taking accountability of your own actions and accepting the consequences that come from your actions is a personal responsibility. For instance, some of the goals in my life include: maintaining physical fitness, working towards a college degree, and using my education to further my career with the Department of the Navy. It is my personal responsibility to asses my realistic goals, prioritize them in order of importance, and enforce actions to make these goals come about. Personal responsibility not only involves taking action, but also realizing the consequences of those actions if your goal is not obtained. Time-management and prioritizing goals will help to clarify how personal responsibility plays a role in everyday decisions. The relationship between my personal responsibility and college success go hand and hand. It is my personal aspiration to further my education by earning a college...
