MY PERSONAL STATEMENT AND STUDY PLAN

My name is Andrew Tan Fu Sing and I am from Selangor, the second largest capital city of Malaysia. I spent twenty-three years, or all of my life here, going to school and college, later attending university. My main speaking language is Cantonese and English, however, I am also fluent in Mandarin and Malay, as these languages are among the essential needs in assimilating into a multi-ethnic country like Malaysia. I graduated from Monash University in 2012 with a Bachelors in Arts Degree, majoring in Communication and minoring in Journalism.

Ever since I was young, I always adored cartoons. My earliest memory of this would be forcing myself to wake up every Saturday and Sunday early morning, just to tune in the weekly marathons of morning cartoons on the television. I enjoy watching just any kind of cartoons, not just for its entertainment value, but for its majestic values, like its ability to tell and communicate a story and values through the pictures and drawings as well as its highly stylized art form. My love for cartoon animations eventually grew stronger over time, making me not only continue to enjoy watching cartoon animations that others created even more, I began wanting to indulge myself in telling stories and creating a cartoon animations that others could share and relate to. My journey of cartoon making began by starting small, creating comic series. However, as the years went by along with peer pressure among competitors and the lack of confidence in my own art skills, I began to lose confidence in pursuing this field and thus ended up with a different course of direction in education.

Throughout my years of my university studies, I was constantly struggling throughout the course, mainly due to incompatible interest in the course itself. In the middle of 2010, I found

Staying on Course

...have a real problem with self confidence. Keeping up with my classmates from high school on social media sites, I became discouraged and depressed from seeing how successful some of them had become. I often wondered why I haven’t become successful. Why was I made to be a failure? Then it dawned on me that I, myself was my own problem. At different points in my life I’ve often given up when I was faced with a challenge. I always took interest in the healthcare field, and I pursued and completed a certification in nursing. When certain circumstances caused for me to have to go back to school to recertify, instead of pressing on I choose defeat. My greatest obstacles now are my children, for I don’t have a strong support system and because of this I have allowed myself to be defeated by other obstacles in life. When I got into college, my biggest challenge was staying focused and motivated. I continued to stay out late, I would put off assignments until the last minute, I did cram study sessions, I was lazy all the time and couldn’t concentrate, and I missed classes and fell behind on home assignments. This caused a major problem for me like receiving failing grades. I blamed everything and everyone around me. I felt like I no longer had control over my situation. I fell into depression and once again I had my mind set on giving up. One day I was in my PRE 100 class and we were discussing the topic of accepting personal responsibility, more in depth to say, victim and creator...

...assignment is to create a personal three year strategic plan. This, I am sure is no easy feat, however this writer believes that personal or individual planning can in many ways be compared to business strategic planning. Just like in business, as with life, to be successful, one must have a clearly defined direction which they intend to go and a plan as to how they intend to get there. This could in fact be viewed as the mission and vision statement for your life .Before I delve any further into this topic I think I should first state my where my life is presently. Currently I am “permanently” employed with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and hold the rank of Police corporal. A marmot accomplishment some might say especially since by comparison I am much younger both in age and in my actual service as a police officer. And the added fact that there are several police officers who, with their many years of service, are yet to be promoted. I am also a single father of two, the holder of an associate of science degree and is presently reading for a degree in Human Resource Management. Since I plan on making this job my career, my strategic plan would be centered around this fact. My Mission statement To be an all-round police officer, who is fully qualified to hold the next higher rank. And to complete my bachelor degree in Human Resource Management so as to lay the foundation for making the transition forward, easier. Vision Statement To bring into the Trinidad...

Personal Responsibility Essay

...Personal Responsibility Essay Gen 200 November 3, 2013 Personal Responsibility Essay Personal Responsibilities is the state of being responsible for his or her own actions. It means I am accountable for my own actions in life. For an example, I decided to further my education to have a better future for my family. Introduction The most important reason I think developing personal responsibilities are very important because it is a big part of my life and having personal responsibilities, it is very important to establish a preliminary plan. Having a preliminary plan set in place will allow me to accomplish my goals in life, which will have an impact on my college success. Without having personal responsibilities, there would not be any boundaries or goals set for oneself. In order for me to have boundaries and set goals, a responsibility plan will be needed to succeed in life. Personal responsibility is very critical to me because; it helps me set goals in life and gives me boundaries to achieve my success. Also doing what I say and saying what I...

Statement of Purpose

...Sample Statement of Purpose: MBA The term “globalism” has become overused, and often misused. In fact, we might say that it has actually been devalued to the level of the everyday language of buzzword-brandishing marketing pundits. Such freewheeling usage has perhaps prompted many a CEO (or future CEO) to launch into a global plan or strategy without proper consideration of the demands and dynamics of the international marketplace. Many would-be globetrotters neglect the acquisition of language skills, knowledge of foreign trade and tax laws, accounting standards, etc., all of which are necessary to effectively “go global.” Superficial knowledge only leads to failure. This has, indeed, happened, and while there is no doubt that neglecting to capture the gains achievable in overseas markets is equally suicidal, misguided attempts at competing globally (along with rapidly developing opportunities in the global marketplace) have placed a dramatic premium on individuals who take the time to properly train themselves in international business. For me, the Columbia MBA is a significant component of this training. I foresee my own career moving in the direction of European/American business, initially from an advisory perspective (i.e. investment banking or consulting) and ultimately from a leadership role within a manufacturing entity, preferably a start-up venture. This prophecy, in part, has evolved from my past experiences in western and eastern Europe which, in turn, have formed...

Freedfom of Choice

...stimulus and response, man has the freedom to choose” (Frankl, 2002). Personal responsibility is recognizing that I have the freedom and control to choose my actions and accept the consequences that come from these actions. These actions can be as simple as determining what my attitude will be for the day all the way to choosing to have a great, motivating, and inspirational life. Covey (1989) explained, making the choice to choose our response we powerfully could affect the results. Personal responsibility links to everything in my life, my family success, my professional success, and my educational success. In this instance, personal responsibility’s associations with the actions I must take to be successful in college are show initiative, be proactive, manage my time effectively, and create effective habits. Initiative There are multiple methods and attributes to ensure my educational success, taking the initiative to choose to be a successful student seems to be the first key point. A study performed by Zimmerman and Martinez-Pons (1986), comparing advanced students and lower performing students found that the lower performing students often give reactive statements such as “I just do what my teacher tells me,” compared to the academically achievers that use statements such as, “If I’m having difficulty motivating myself to complete my homework, I just work harder.” The findings indicated a lack of personal initiative in the lower performing students whereas the over achievers...
