The primary reason why I selected this topic is because a recent project has intrigued me to broaden my knowledge in animal science. Since my science fair project is on how the type of dog may affect how loud its bark is. I predicted that the bigger dog breed would have the loudest bark because big dogs have deeper barks. As for the smaller dog breed I predicted that they would have a higher bark because of the shape of their vocal chords and their pitch, not the volume. After comparing the smaller breed to the bigger breed I finally came up with a hypothesis. My hypothesis is if I test different breeds of dogs, then, the bigger breed will bark the loudest because the big dogs have deeper barks. For my experiment, I chose four different test subjects (dogs) all of different breeds. Before I began my experiment I asked each pet owner for permission to use their pet in my experiment. I wanted to see if color or chemicals made a difference. My hypothesis was that blonde hair was stronger than brown hair and chemically treated hair. Individual strands of hair were collected from 30 female subjects. I tied one end to a hair hanging device and the other to a baggie. I added pennies into the bag until the strands broke, which is how I determined their strength. My testing showed that brown hair was the strongest and held an average of 27.9 pennies. Chemically treated hair held an average of 14.9 pennies and blonde hair an average of 9.9 pennies. From this research, I found that if you want strong hair, you should not get it chemically treated.
