After reading everyones posts I feel that my story is a little bit different and odd to say the least. I am 31 years old set to graduate with double BSBA in Human Resources Management and Finance from a public non-target university with a GPA of 3.9. My GMAT score was 740. I do have significant work history before going to college at such a late stage of my life. My first job was in Human Resources at the age of 18, moved up the ranks, and by the time I was 21 I was running the compensation department for my company. Then I went into accounting were I worked for 5 years, and once again moved up in the company becoming the lead/supervisor of the compliance department. Unfortunately, the company started downsizing and my position was eliminated.

...Without money life would be bleak. But the real question becomes what to do when you have money? How much money is enough? Both are very good questions. I believe during this particular time in our history, that money is doing more harm than good; I spend my money faster than I can make it, just like many Americans do. The morality part of this topic is that money is not the answer to the privileged people’s problems (though we think it is). However, money in the right hands can literally save lives. All that I have to do is give money to charity. Do I sacrifice that new television to give a little to the extremely poor? Or do I buy the latest one (even though I already own three good working televisions)? The answer is simple, spend less, save more, and give as much as I can to the less fortunate. Topic My definition of happiness 07:43 PM 10/3/2011 Happiness means a lot of different things to a lot of people in my time. Many people consider happiness to be big houses and big cars, and being able to afford expensive wardrobes from many fashion designers. This is not what I consider happiness to be. To get to know me just a little, I will fill in a bit of background information (the abridge version). My early childhood was terrible, being raised by poor, abusive white trash family, bouncing around the country, missing a lot...

...paper by the participants is a very different thing."(Gibbon, J. 1891) What I have taken from his work that not everything could be laid out there on paper without giving up something. Continuing this was all about the strategies taking during the time of the many battles that happened there at and around Gettysburg. It focuses on really one man that is General Meade. This piece even though being told from a military man was not too hard to follow, but you might want to familiarize yourself on the units that were there at Gettysburg and also some of the other leaders there. Overall this was great and a different point of view on what took place in one of the darkest times in American History. Moving on to the next one. How do you explain certain things in history? That is a great question but the next one I read about what about Explanatory Narrative in History. Another great little piece. It goes on making you ask yourself what is ‘explain' and how do you work it in without over explaining. Good way of putting is "history is a story, nothing more nothing less" and it goes on "cannot be told without the admixture of explanatory and speculative elements."(Dray, W. 1954) There is much more to learn in the read if you just take the time to read and understand it. Lastly, there is Plain and Significant. What do you mean you ask well my next read was just about that, "Plain" and "Significant" Narrative in...

Personal Narrative: My Heritage In The United States

...Being raised in the United States as an American for the first 10 years of my life I was happy with the traditions and customs of the U.S but my parents made sure that I would learn about my heritage. I wasn’t open to the idea of learning about what people used to do in Lebanon and how they used to live their life because i was living my own comfortably here in the U.S. Even though I was taught a lot about what my ancestors dressed and how they acted by lectures from my parents and Saturday school at a center nearby I never tied my heritage to my everyday life at school or in my social life with my friends even though many of them had the same heritage as mine. i thought it would not matter because I lived in the U.S and that I should act as I liked not how my ancestors did. When I was 10, my father received an enticing job...

Racial Diversity

...* Throughout most of U.S. history, in most locations, what race has been in the majority? What is the common ancestral background of most members of this group? I believe that white Americans have been in the majority of U.S. history followed by African Americans. The Business Insider have indicated that the largest ancestry group or race is German Americans (L. O’Connor, G. Lubin, D. Spector, 2013). Followed by the (in order) Irish, English, American, Italian, Polish, French, Scottish, and so on. It is also indicated that Germans immigrated to United States because of their economical hardship during 19th century. * What are some of the larger racial minorities in U.S. history? What have been the common ancestral backgrounds of each of these groups? When did each become a significant or notable minority group? Some of the larger racial minorities in U.S. history has to be Black or African Americans, Mexican, Native American, and Chinese. Each racial minorities’ ancestral backgrounds are, Africa, Mexico, America, and China. In my understanding, African Americans became a significant or notable minority gourp in 1928 when last state to end slavery in United States (Mrlincolnandfreedom.org, 2013). Mexicans have gained their minority group between 1990 and 2000, nearly doubling in size. Native Americans has always been in minority group since they were the first to arrive or lived in United States. Chinese have become a significant or notable minority group when...

Trauma Focused Genogram Principles

...to recall as I move forward in family work with clients would be the following: 1. Principle One: First attend to safety 2. Principle Two: Make use of a roadmap: the trauma-focused genogram “Attending to safety” is a crucial element in building a trusting healing relationship with family members, especially those who have experienced trauma. One of the important ways that I could help my clients separate their past from their present is to give them the continued and expected experience of feeling safe. It is important for me to be aware that in the past nothing has felt safe to the client. In the present, I want them to develop a voice and have more control over the amount to which events and relationships feel safe for them. I can further the progress of trust and a feeling of safety by providing an authentic engagement with the family members. Being clear...

Literature of the Augustan Age

...literature. While many authors contributed works in this time, which ran roughly from 42 BCE to around 17 CE, the most prominent in this time were Virgil, Horace and Livy. The most important historical aspect of the literature at this time was how it served to support Emperor Augustus’ rule and his strong beliefs in traditional Roman values. This paper will focus on the ways in which these authors supported the values and beliefs of Augustus, and to what aspect their literature helped and supported the change in Rome during the transition from Republic to Empire. These authors’ works were intrinsically tied to the era in a very unique and important way. The theme of traditional rural Roman values, and the importance of the countryside to the integrity of Rome were extremely prevalent in their works, as well as in the policies of Emperor Augustus. This signified the extreme importance of Augustus’ focus on restoring traditional Roman values, and when supported by the writings from Virgil, Horace and Livy, has proven to be one of the most significant aspects towards the success of Augustus’ transformation of Rome into the Empire it would become. When we examine the contribution that Virgil, Horace and Livy made to the Augustan rule in the newly formed Roman Empire, we cannot begin without mentioning some of the skepticism that occurred during the initial years of the transformation. This is evidenced well in an excerpt in Livy’s The Early History of Rome: I would have [the reader]...

Timeline

...EDU 324: History of American Education Timeline 2 Interactive Timeline I think the most significant event from my timeline was the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended segregation in public places such as schools and prohibited discrimination in the workforce on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. The Civil Rights Act was a stepping stone in changing the future of this entire country. President Johnson signed the act into law on July 2, “the Civil Rights Act of 1964, was the most comprehensive civil rights statute in U.S. history and one of the nation’s most significant pieces of social legislation” (Webb, 2014). If the Civil Rights Act had not passed into the law, this country would still be very much divided and segregation and racial discrimination would have continued. In 2008, the first African-American man, Barack Obama, was elected into the presidential office. In the upcoming election, a woman, Hilary Clinton will run for the presidential office. These major events in history would have never been possible without the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. I think the most interesting person is my timeline is Anne Sullivan and how she became known as “the miracle worker”. Anne Sullivan had vision problems of her own and she began to work with Helen Keller when Helen was just 7 years old. Anne Sullivan had to work hard to ...

Pro Bono

...“Daniel” was convicted of the more serious crime of conspiracy to commit first degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. For the majority of my lifetime, “Daniel” has been trying to correct this egregious conviction and his struggle is far from over. Last summer, I work pro bono on “Daniel’s” case as a second year law student in Oracle, Arizona, and came to realise the true benefit of pro bono work. I ended up in Oracle after studying American Legal Practice at Birmingham City University as part of my second year LL.B studies. The American Legal Practice module is the largest UK to USA legal internship programme in the United Kingdom with over 100 host partners. The module provides students with an opportunity to work pro bono in an American law office, project or organisation for academic credit. Before embarking on the internship students must undertake training, in order to prepare them for some possible issues they may encounter. The training covered areas including legal research, the federal and state legal system, the Constitution, Amendments, the death penalty and exemptions, American Bar Association guidelines and international law. During my internship I spent several weeks working on “Daniel’s” case. In this time, I reviewed the file to establish the history of the case, including any procedural history. I also spent several hours researching the...

Generational Diversity

...and discuss what makes this group so significant in today’s society. The millennial generation includes Americans ages 18-29. This generation is more ethnically and racially diverse than older generations, less religious, and less likely to have served in the military. This generation is also on track to become the most educated generation in American history, making them very significant to society. The millennial generation is also consumed with technology and social networking. 2. Compare and contrast the Millennials with the other generations identified by Pew.  Drawing from your own experience, identify and describe an example of an individual from your own experience that reflects the characteristics of each generation. The millennial generation is less likely to have served in the military compared to Gen Xers, the Baby Boomers and the Silent generation. The use and knowledge of technology is the reason Millennials feel they are distinguished from other generations, however, Gen Xers also cite technology as their generation’s biggest source of distinctiveness. Of the four generations, Millennials are the only one that doesn’t claim “work ethic” as a contributor to distinctiveness. Millennials, however, are the most open to change followed closely by Gen Xers. My great-grandmother would be an example from the Silent generation. She experienced the great depression and my great-grandfather was a veteran of many wars. Their work ethic was much more valued then, than...

My knowledge of American history may not always be gathered from the most historically accurate information or the most reliable sources. I have learnt a significant amount about the great depression, civil rights movement, Wars involving America, terrorism and other important events in American history. Up until the end of the 1920’s America was a country of success and great hope. The standard of living was high for the people who were wealthy and white, racism seemed to be a massive problem in America prior to this time and many decades following. While racism towards black people was an issue, it appears the sexist views towards...
