Zamboanga, the pride of Mindanao as they call it has been my home for the 15 years of my existence. The society was and is never perfect. It has its own fair share of struggles as any other society experiences. The biggest struggle in the city of Zamboanga is maintaining peace and order which long process has been constantly bruised and battered. Peace and order which is for the benefit of all the people living in the city is needed for the people to fully live their lives. It is needed so that the city can focus on developing the society and bringing out the best from whatever resources it is endowed with. What has been going on for years is the asserting selfish deeds of individuals who insist on having things go their way. Hence, the murders, thefts, homicides, kidnappings and many other man-caused tragedies are prevalent. Officials and the people of the city make no big effort or bring out strong will to change these ways and transform them into loving acts for the good of all people. There are numerous threatening events that happened here in Zamboanga where society was gravely put in danger. Since the city is near ARMM, it’s in Mindanao, rebel and free groups against the government such as the MILF, MNLF, and Abu Sayaff get plenty of chances to harm people and demand overwhelming things for themselves. All people have seen how brutal they carry out their means for their selfish ends. These groups are against the Philippine government and demand through militaristic means for a separate entity/government. There have been bombings, hostages, kidnappings, murders just for this demand of theirs. These people do not make moral decisions and do not contribute to social justice. Simply to put it, Zamboanga city has got a shaky peace and order. It’s not guaranteed to keep its citizens safe in whatsoever way.

One of the struggles in Ateneo de Zamboanga University is making high quality education available to the less fortunate of the society. This benefit that is for all can’t be achieved by all because of the wide gap between the rich and the poor. Poor people can’t afford to get themselves into ADZU but rich people can. It’s sad how a common good needs to be paid for in big amounts. For me, I think that’s selfish because education is a service and money is often times wasted or spent on the wants of individuals and not for the whole of the community or society of students which it is of and for. The common good is rooted in equality and unity of all people. Drawing a line between poor and rich for good quality education does not seem at all fair for me. Everyone should have an access to better education no matter what social class they belong to. Poverty or below middle-class as social condition, however does not allow most people what everyone deserves to fulfil.

These two struggles need a collective effort to be solved. There is a great need for cooperation of all because if not all people work towards the goal, the good end can never be achieved.

I think a way to address the peace and order situation in the city as a teenager and a student is to actively participate and be involved in programs and missions directed to rectify the situation in the littlest way possible. Last year, my class joined the Peace Tech conference in WMSU which educated us on what we should avoid doing and what we should prevent others from doing because it’s important that we get educated on wrongs that we should not follow and right that we should illuminate to others. I believe it’s this sense of responsibility which will address the problem in a bid way. I also recently joined the 6th walk for humanity which was about the common good that people need to be walking towards. So these are the kinds of events and programs that help us take a step further towards the common good we seek.

I can also address the problem to the attainment of good quality education. I can lend my hand to others who can’t afford the education they so deserve. I can do that through organizations that my school offers such as Information Technology Society where we teach public school students who don’t have the opportunity in the field of technology, the computer, how this helps them much in their work ethic. I can also join YassEd where we take roles of educators about Environmental health and also about Science concepts that are very important in education. Therefore, we share our opportunities because this is the way it should be. This opportunity of high quality education should be open to all and by participating in organizations such as those just mentioned where we share the education we get from our school, we create a window for others. I believe that offering our service to people is the way to address this struggle. By making a moral decision and choice, we create a culture that will help others to move and do it themselves.

Struggles are only there because we allow them to be there. If we truly want a just society that meets its common good, we have to work for it. Not just by ourselves but with each other, together. I believe struggles aren’t there because they hold us back. Struggles are there because we hold our own selves back. Struggles are also there to test our faith and challenge us as to how far we can care for ourselves and others. To address the struggles I face with my society, I have to get out of my own way and be truly concerned and involved with the society towards working to build the common good.

To reach shared goals, everyone must do her or his part. (Johnson 148) I am engaged in a very active role in my children’s school, as the participating coordinator in the parent’s teachers association. I am involved in the social/recreational aspect such as fundraisers, planning field trips, school events and any extra socializing involvement amongst parents, teachers and students. The school is privately own, therefore they rely on all of the events for their financial assistance. I became a group member because I believe in creating a positive, productive and fun learning environment for children. In this large group of over fifty people, I demonstrate cooperative orientation and I display openness and supportiveness. We all have one aim in the group and that is to accomplish success in everything we do. We are all assign different tasks through the school year and making time to do so can be very challenging. Most of the parents work full time jobs and meetings are usually after work. For this we try to help each other by working around everyone’s schedule and planning ulterior methods or substitution. ...Tuyet Chavez BUSN 115 Professor John Kyser 15 November 2015 Develop a creative name for your Lemonade Stand, and then explain why a name is important when you are considering branding options? The name that I have chosen to go with for my lemonade stand is “The undistracted lemon squeezer”. The reason I decided to come up with this name is because, it sounds like my lemonade stand is the destroyer of all lemons. The name also makes it sound like this lemonade stand can be the bet out there. It can make any perfect glass of ice cold liquid gold, turn into amazing refreshing lemonade. I believe that my lemonade stand name is vital when I am considering marketing alternatives because I believe a name can make a difference. If it is not a catchy name, not many will notice it. People will just look at the stand and walk away if the name is just the lemonade stand. Since it’s a catchy name; it’s absolutely impossible that a client that makes a trip to quench their thirst will forget a name like the undistracted lemon squeezer. Create a Mission Statement for your Lemonade Stand (Chapter 7); then explain why a mission statement is important for any company? To me a statement of purpose is the thing that ought to help a man to continue spending their cash at a foundation. A few illustrations of the statement of purpose are to help the populace of the group, fulfill the customer needs, and so on. The undistracted lemon squeezer stand's main goal is to raise cash to further research...

The Shot

...Ten seconds left. I can barely hear anything. I feel the vomit creeping up in my throat as the milliseconds go by. Everything is getting very blurry. Tension is rising. Who would have thought that we would be down by one point and I would be the one trusted to hold this basketball? Why did my coach want me to shoot the last shot in the first place? What do I bring on this court that is any different from what my teammates would bring? Every face on my bench is almost frozen, their eyes locked on to me and the ball. There are hundreds of people in the stands watching my every move. Deep breath. Every little thing has to be on point. Nine seconds. I just want to pass the ball away over to my teammate, get rid of it. Why not? Who cares what my coach says? He’s the one who put me in this situation anyways. Eight seconds left. Its just too embarrassing to miss THE final shot in THE final game of the season. I have earned every second I stepped foot on this court and worked too hard for this shot to be a miss. All the time spent practicing and all the injuries, I just cant let myself and everyone down. Seven seconds. I see everyone in the stands jumping up and down but can barely hear them. What do they want from me? i’m 18 years old for crying out loud! It’s not like I’m in the NBA here! I want to see them try and step foot in my shoes right now... Nonsense, focus. My defender looks really intimidating. His muscles contract as his thumbs rub against his fingertips. Boy does he want...

Reports & Research

...'My approach to Business Reports and Research' I have decided to keep my sources in-house by utilizing LOIS; “Los Rios Online Information System”, as a base for sources. I am not opposed to other sources, but in the interest of time I am not able to devote the time necessary to vet other databases outside this academia environment. There is no doubt LOIS information is credible. To ensure I have some idea how to vet information sources. I did take the time to read about how to vet informational databases for future knowledge. I relied on the stands that I have already experienced with my academic journey. As a student that is about to graduate, I can honestly say Los Rios school district have provided many sources of information towards learning. Students just have to avail themselves to them. There has been many good experiences with fact finding since enrolling in ARC. To put it plainly, at this point I am very comfortable with LOIS. The choice to use LOIS alleviates any need for assessment. Wait Line Managment

...waiting line is a list of consumers who continues to wait to pay for a specific service from a restaurant or other service facilities. The way I see it understanding waiting lines and figuring out how to manage them is one of the most important areas in operation management. In companies or in private life, there are instances of procedures which generates waiting lines or queues. The reason why these waiting lines occur is for the present services facility is inadequate to provide service at that instance. As an examples when people travel by airplanes, I have personal involvements with numerous types of waiting lines or queues. To buy tickets for a movie, I normally have to stand in line at movie theater ticket office. When I arrive at an airport most of the time I stand in line to check baggage, then I stand in line again to get a seat assignment. After that I line up again for the TSA security checkpoint and the again for the last time when waiting to board the plane to scan the boarding passes. I also wait when I am inside the plane, I wait for those ahead of me to take their seats. And finally, we may wait for baggage to arrive and then for ground transportation. I think this quote is very important and says a lot about waiting lines. “Perhaps the biggest influence on our feelings about lines, though, has to do with our perception of fairness. When it comes to lines, the universally acknowledged standard is first come first served: any deviation is, to most, a mark of iniquity...

Stephen King: Two Books, One Story

...Stephen King: Two Books, One Story In 1974, the world was first introduced to Stephen King through the publication of Carrie. Since then, King has released over fifty-four novels, short stories and essays (King, Written Works). His themes are vast and touch such subjects as aliens, telekinesis, life in prison, trucks coming to life, and the end of the world. In 1999, a car accident almost ended Stephen King’s life. After his recovery, he published five novels that were received with poor sales and unkind reviews. When Under the Dome was released in 2009, it showed that Stephen King was returning to a formula that worked so well for him in a previous book called The Stand. To understand these two books, one must first understand their author. Stephen King was born September 21, 1947. His father abandoned his mother, older brother, and himself when he was two (King, Writing 3). His mother, Ruth took a succession of poorly paid menial jobs, leaving her sons in the care of various relatives. Stephen attended the grammar school in Durham and then Lisbon Falls High School, graduating in 1966. He attended college at the University of Maine, and that is where he met his wife Tabitha, who was also a student. In 1970, he graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a B.A. in English, and his first child was born. Stephen worked as a high school English teacher for a few years in Maine while he started writing his first novel Carrie. Carrie was an instant hit and an overnight...

Less Is More

...Less is more Prof. Sheena Iyengar believes that the need to choose from a variety of similar products leads to customer’s paralysis, in which the majority of customers decide to abandon the purchase. She made some experiment when supermarket offered visitors a taste jam. There were two tables with jam probes: one was presented 24 options, another just 6. A lot more people stayed to try jam, where there were more options, but only 3% of them have bought jam. To the stand with 6 kinds of jam less people came, but 30% of them decided to buy it. Iyengar gives four pieces of advice to avoid the problem of consumer paralysis. First, reduce the range. Paradoxically, this will make the selection process more enjoyable for customers and increase the number of sales. For example, Procter&Gamble Company removed their nine varieties of shampoo and thereby increased the number of sales by 10%. Second, concretization. Customers can not choose from a variety of options, because they do not understand the difference between the products. Third, divide the products into categories, so it would be easier to find and choose. And finally, starting with a less complicated choice. Range of products attractive to the buyer only in theory- in reality it tiring and hinders to make a choice. Any man who has had to watch a woman while choosing clothes from the closet, knows- the more clothes in her closet, the more likely she will say that she has nothing to wear. So as a girl and a customer...

One Who Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest

The patients began to find strength in his leadership. However, McMurphy came to realize that the very people he was defying were the same people who would determine the timeframe of his release from the hospital. When McMurphy decided to play it safe and stop bucking the system, the other patients who looked up to him were very disappointed because they did not have him to support them and they were not strong enough to fight the system alone. I never believed in the philosophy that we are our “brothers’ keeper (28).” But, because everyone relied on McMurphy to stand up and help them fight the horrible...

Take the file with you and meet Jane outside the courtroom. I’ll be there shortly.” Carl meets Jane and they enter the courtroom and sit down. At 9:00 A.M., Attorney Howe hasn’t arrived. The judge enters the courtroom and everyone stands. The judge begins to call cases. Carl wonders what he should do. He watches the attorneys and sees that as each case is called, the attorney either announces that the matter is uncontested, in which case the judge signs the order presented by the attorney, or says “To be heard,” in which case the judge just nods and calls the next case. Carl also notices some very young attorneys who stand up and identify themselves as “so-and-so for Attorney Jones” or “so-and-so for Attorney Smith.” Clearly, they’re appearing on behalf of a senior attorney. Hmmm, thinks Carl. Since our matter is contested, Attorney Howe would simply say, “To be heard.” Finally, the judge calls Jane’s case. Attorney Howe hasn’t arrived. Carl stands up. “Carl Jackson for Attorney Howe. That’s to be heard.” The judge nods and Carl sits down. In a few moments, Attorney Howe arrives. Her father was a famous mountaineer and one day Pangma-la and her father would climb the Shining Mountain together. Suddenly it was that one day and they were going to climb the Shining Mountain together, but Pangma-la were going to meet a lot of obstacles on her way to the top. Pangma-la is a young Scottish girl, which is having a rough time in school because of her strange name. Her father named her ‘Pangma-la’ after a mountain called ‘The Shining Mountain’ so that she would always stand tall and proud. Her father, a famous mountaineer, means the world to her. When her father gives her credit for something or compliments her she turns prouder than ever: ““Let her be, she’s tough and hard as nails,” and Pangma-la was proud.” Pangma-la is a very unsecure girl, because she does not want to disappoint her father. She bases all her actions on what her father would think of her: “”let me carry your heavy sack, daughter,” said the woman, but Pangma-la shook her head, for she was afraid that her father would be disappointed in her.” The father is a famous mountaineer and would be considered a ‘hard man’ and a ‘real hero’ by most people. He was the one who named Pangma-la after the Shining Mountain, so with that he had a lot of expectations towards his daughter: “I called you after a shining mountain so that you would stand tall and be proud”.
