"Lynch Law" by Ida B. Wells-Barnett. Ida B. Wells, was born into slavery in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She lived with her father a carpenter and her mother a cook. A few months after Ida was born, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. This made Ida and her family free, well as far as the laws go. Because is wasnt until the Civil War that actualy free. When Ida was sixteen years old both her parents died from Yellow Fever. So to keep her family together, Ida had to work as a teacher to take care of her brothers and sisters. A few years later, Ida moved to Memphis so that she could make more money teaching. She also took college courses and began to write and edit for a local journals. One day Ida was taking the train and the train the conductor told her she had to move from were se was sitting, and said that section was for white people only. Ida refused, but was obligated to leave her seat. So She sued and won $500.But the Tennessee Supreme Court overturned the decision (http://www.biography.com/). After the insident with the train, Ida began to write about the racial injustices of the South. Then she began her own newspaper called the Free Speech, where she wrote about racial segregation and discrimination. In 1892, one of Ida's friends, was arrested for murderering a white man. Ida's friend was protecting his grocery store from being broken into. The white man got in anyway and distroyed the store. Ida friend was hoping that the judge would justify his actions and take it as self defence. but, before he could even go to trial, he was killed by the mob (Linched). This made Ida mad as well as so many people so she left to New York so she can be safe and started working for the New York newspaper called the New York Age. There she wrote articles about lynching and open peoples eyes on how often African-Americans were being killed without a trial. Ida believed that lynchings were used as a means of terorizing and repressing blacks (Zinn chapter 13 page 232). The two amjor issues are; (No level of local state, federal goverment will protest/respect Non-white rights) and (Lynching as a form of white racial terrorism?).Issue one states to be true do to the fact on (Forner chapter 15 page 585-586). States that despite the grant administrations effective response to klan terrorism, the norths commitment to reconstruction decreased during the 1870s.Many Radicsals passed from the scene, within the republican party. But their place was taken by politicians less committed to the idea of equal right for the blacks.Northerners increasingly felt that the south should be able to solve its own problems without constant interference from washington. The federal had freed the slaves, made them citizens, and given them the right to vote. Now,blacks should rely on their own resources, not demand further assisttance.Issue two Lynching as a form of white racial terrorism is proven in so many factors for example: in the movie( Rosewood massacre)which whites attacked blacks and burned the town down. Just because a unstable creature (white woman), claims to have been beaten by a black man. When in reality she was sleeping arround with the whole town. The white man she was having sex with woops the white out of her knocking her across the bed and onto a floor. Some black workers outside heard what was going on but did nothing. When they were asked about it there reponce was not beliaved. The white people readily believe the white trash of a woman, showing the power of racial stereotyping and fears. The black residents of Rosewood quickly become targeted by the white males, including members of the Ku Klux Klan. Coming from a school in which i graduated with good grades in all classes ecept math,I am bombarded in the fact that i had no idea of the real truth. And fractly i dont remember what i actually learn in history class.I think the most relevant event was the terrorism of the twin towers in new york city.Graduating in 2003 from high school and just returning back to school can be a factor. After reading these chapters and attending the class setions i have trealized how we have been living a lie.And how white people have it out for us Different cultural people.I have defitnetly learn new things and see everythign differently now.I opend my newfew history book sisnce he is in high school and i see the crap they are teaching them. There should be more teachers that should teach the truth then agin not many can handle the pressure. Most teachers just teach by the book and not by the truth.

...fact that it was monsoon season in the Philippines. “Take this,” my grandmother whispered, passing me a handheld candle. “Thank you,” I whispered back, taking the candle and holding it up to the foggy window. It was difficult to comprehend how a week ago I was in the United States in the middle of a beautiful, sunny summer with my friends. Now, I was in the muggy Philippines with my family, stuck in the midst of Typhoon Glenda without power. The typhoon carried on for two more days. Flashlights and candles were under heavy use, and the water in the house was ice cold to the fingertips. When I wandered...

Stars

...English 12 Famous Stars in our Galaxy There are about 300 billion different stars in our galaxy. All of which contain different history, characteristics and general information. They each contain their own story of how they came about. Many of these stars are a part of a certain constellation and have been around for billions of years. Polaris is one the best known stars. (“How Do Stars Form,” n.d.) This star is known by many names like the North or Pole Star. Polaris has not always been the North Star and will not always remain the North Star. As centuries change the North Star will also do so. “A famous star called Thuban, in the constellation Draco the Dragon, was the North Star when the Egyptians built the pyramids.” (earthsky) Polaris will remain as the North Star for many more centuries to come. There was a time where people depended on their lives on this star to guide them. Fortunately, they used the North Star and the Big Dipper without getting lost. “. When slavery existed in the United States, slaves counted on the Big Dipper (which they called the Drinking Gourd) to show them the North Star, lighting their way to the free states and Canada.” (earthsky) Polaris is not hard to miss in the sky; it is the 50th brightest star and does not disappear. The reason this star will not disappear is due to the fact that the Earth’s axis is aligned pointing towards Polaris in the same direction North faces but will eventually shift over time. In comparison to the sun, this...

The OCC is the second biggest convention center behind Chicago in the United States. The location of central Florida and these huge buildings help OCC be in high demand for events. The Sears Tower would be able to fit lying down inside of the west building. The North/South building is smaller and shaped more like a box but still is large enough to host several events at the same time. Orlando is considered a first tier city. A first tier city is a city that is able to accommodate 30,000 people or more for an event. Other examples of first tier cities are Chicago, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Atlanta. The OCC is also a nonprofit business. It infuses the local economy with new money and expanding business. Beauty in Nature Personal Narrative

...dark, and quiet, and I was having the time of my life. As I was lying on my cot on that little beach at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, I started to relive the whole experience from start to finish and I suddenly relized how fortunate I was to have this experience. It all started in the beginning of January 2010. For my sixteenth birthday, my grandparents said that I could pick anything I wanted to do, anywhere in the country, and they would pay for my Dad, my Grandpa, and I to go. After a few weeks of indecision (I had so many ideas that I couldn’t decide) my Grandpa called me and told me that he had asked a travel agent for ideas. She informed him of a trip that consisted of visiting the city of Las Vegas, spending a day on a cattle ranch, and, best of all, a three day, two night rafting trip through the Grand Canyon. A decision that I had been struggling with for weeks was solved with a short phone call. This was the trip I wanted to take, the trip of a life time. The date was set, we would fly to Las Vegas at the end of May. This posed a slight problem in that school didn’t let out untill the fifth of June, and final exams were taking place in the last two weeks. After much effort on my part, I was able to exempt a couple of exams and convince the rest of my teachers to allow my to take their test early. Everything was in order, we were to leave a full week before the end of school. The plan was for my Dad and I to drive up to my Grandparents’ house in the mountains of North...

...Kimberly Tucker, Chris Salt, Ashley Solomon Case 7: Mattel: Overcoming Marketing and Manufacturing Challenges 11/01/2010 Marketing Management 6800 Section 004 The Problem: The problem surrounding Mattel Inc., one of the world’s largest toy companies, is their mismanagement of international subcontractors and vendors and the production of certain toys (the manufacturing process), as well as their inability to adapt their marketing strategy or product to the constantly changing “demographic and socioeconomic trends” (Ferrell, et. all 466). This is supported by Mattel’s legal battle with Carter Bryant and MGA, their forced recall of certain toys that were manufactured overseas, and the increasing rate at which traditional toys are becoming less appealing to today’s young audience. Essentially, Mattel’s mismanagement and oversight lead to violations in terms of ethical and social responsibilities and safety standards. Issues Relevant to the Problem: Mattel’s problem of mismanagement can be divided into several issues that need to be considered: legal issues, international supply chain issues, and an increase in technology-based toys. In regards to legal issues, Mattel has been involved in prolonged litigation with Carter Bryant and MGA over a breach of an employment contract and copyright infringement. Due to Mattel’s poor management of its overseas manufacturers, in which unauthorized subcontractors and third-party suppliers were hired and unsafe materials used, several...

My Personalities Trait

...person is focusing on something different, thinking of something different, and noticing something different. That is why every person has a story to tell, and it is why we can learn from every single person. And this essay is about my short autobiography, which can give you an indication of my personal story. I came into this world on the windy morning of October 15, 1990. I was born in Cua Viet, a small town in Vietnam. I am the 5th child among the 5 children of my parent. I grew up and spent almost my whole life in my country. Now, I am the second year student in Business Accounting- the 2 year program. I have been through many life-changing situations in past 3 years. These situations have had both positive and negative impacts to me. My goals from 5 years ago compare to my current goals are totally different. After finishing 12th grade, I just wanted to become a Mathematics teacher, so I went to Hue University and tried my best to achieve the goal. However, when I was the 2nd year student of the Hue University, I found that I was no longer interested in becoming a teacher. Hence, I dropped the school and wanted to get a better education in Canada and seek opportunities in accounting. Since then, my life has changed. On one hand, starting my new life in a strange country is so hard. When I just came, I faced many difficulties, such as the language, the weather and the life style. Firstly, language was a big matter when I first came. Speaking was one of the linguistic problems...

Descriptive Hate for Work

...Freddy Rodriguez Prof. Chamberlain English 063 16 Oct, 2012 My Hate for Work We all deal with some sort of issue that makes our work experience negative. In my case its cooking at a restaurant where all you hear is kids screaming uncontrollably from the control point window in the grill, the fog coming from both the fryer and grill, and last, but not least the “pushing and shoving” from the grill team when we’re pulling off a thousand dollar hour. If you haven’t guessed yet, its Friendly’s “Where ice cream makes the meal”... and my hate for people. I’m just kidding, but I don’t like rude people; like if I’m nice to you why can’t you return the nice gesture? Anyways (back on track) its crazy how many sounds you hear, things you see and objects you feel within a five hour shift that actually feels like two because of working through a rush period. Children children children, I hate them. Hate is a strong word? Trust me I KNOW! I cannot fathom the loud screaming that sounds like metal to metal screeching; all because mommy won’t them get ice cream. The sad part is that I work in the grill and its sort of tucked away in the back. Imagining the intensity of the screaming? Quite horrible isn’t it? As if the loud grinding gears of their voices isn’t enough, I have the pleasure of watching them run around like its free game day at chuck e cheese or something. The only part I enjoy of them running around like maniacs is seeing the huge bright shiny smile on their faces, it makes...
