One ball, eleven sticks, one cage, and sixty minutes to achieve one common goal⸺score. Field hockey has proven to be much more than an outlet for excess energy and a vehicle for camaraderie; it has taught me irreplaceable lessons regarding leadership and teamwork.
First and foremost, as captain of my winter field hockey team, responsible for organizing players, line-ups and substitution schedules, I have gained valuable knowledge on how to be an effective leader, which I apply elsewhere as well. For example, as Secretary of my high school’s chapter of National Honor Society, the organizational skills and leadership I learned through directing the winter league has proven beneficial.
