Nature’s Fan created by William-Adolphe Bouguereau's, in 1881, is a 3.5ft. x 4ft. oil on canvas picture of two siblings, one being a young lady and the other a boy who is a toddler. The siblings are depicted as laying in nature, playing with each other near the lakes of the forest. The figures take up a lot of the canvas, altogether including the closer view with the lush scene behind vanishing into shades of dark. The paintings size, being not too large or small, creates a real-life image. When examining the painting it looks as if one is staring out a window. The right side of the painting, the young lady is seen sitting and slightly hanging over the boy, who is laying on the grass. The young lady holds the broken tip of a tree limb in one hand at the kid's elbow as he turns his head towards the viewers, far from the leaves with his hands raised over his face. The young lady's hair is enlightened as she hangs over the kid, asserting her honesty. The lighting on the young lady's white shirt and arms underline her as a stronger focal point. The lighting, creates a state of mind that goes with adolescence. There are two different purposes of light in the painting; one side in the group of trees, a vertical light that gives a three-dimensional quality. The lights present on the tree group together to emphasize the hidden beauty of nature and connecting the beauty of nature with the purity and innocence of children. Bouguereau's set up of the light help remove any unwanted aspects of the painting creating the focus on where the light shines towards.
